Fuck the Yankees.
At least they didn't win one while they had Mussina. EDIT - no need for me to be a dick.

Hahahaha. I guess it is a bandwagon that I have been on since I was 10 years old then.

Congrats to the Yankees, they were the better team this year. Hopefully, we can the chance to play them again in 2010.
I think Mike Greenberg said it best. The two guys likely most responsible for the Phils winning it last year (Lidge/Hamels) were also the two guys most responsible for the Phils losing it this year. Still a great season for the Fightin's. Winning championships takes talent and luck, and we lacked the latter this year. Oh, and at least we're still better than the Mets. |

Thanks for the good sportsmanship Dr. Sak. The Phillies did a great job and should be proud of what they accomplished. Getting to the WS two years in a row is difficult. Also, I would like to offer up Robinson Cano and Joba Chamberlain for Chase Utley. Deal?

Hah! No Thanks...I don't think I could deal with looking at Joba's face and flat billed cap all year. The Phils should have some money to go after so added bench depth. Myers' $12 mil will be gone, and they no longer have to pay Geoff Jenkins, Jim Thome, and Adam Eaton for not playing for them. |

I'd like to go on record now as being frustrated and disappointed in the 2010 Reds lack of offense.

Comon, ya know I'm kidding. You really should be a Tigers fan, though. You know you deserve all sorts of crap for being a Yankees fan instead of a Tigers fan, and a Steelers fan instead of a Lions fan.

I understand the consensus here is that I am a bandwagon jumper, which is actually quite absurd. I say this because I have followed these teams since childhood, just because I didn't grow up in NY or Pittsburgh doesn't mean I shouldn't like the teams. My favorite player growing up was Don Mattingly, and that kind of fortified my liking of the Yankees. FWIW, I also liked Lance Parrish of the Tigers, but I just never liked the team enough to really follow them hardcore. The Steelers are pretty much the same story as the Yankees. I liked the team's history, commitment to winning, and generally the way the organization is run. I still follow the Lions, but it is mostly out of pity. I would love to see them actually be successful, but sadly I do not see that happening anytime within the next 5 million years or so. Or until Ford senior dies.... I suffered through many years of futility with these teams as well, it isn't like I just start liking them when they win. The Steelers, Yankees, and Red Wings of the 80's were not very good. Michigan has been mediocre to downright awful the past few years. And yeah, I know you are kidding. I just wish I knew if some others were.

Yup, all this is why I call you an "elitist" instead of a bandwagon jumper. Obviously, you have been devoted to these teams for a long while.

I wonder where all the RomaGoth Miami love comes from...
Regardless... congrats to the Yankees. Quite a team, even without a 4th (or 5th) starter worth anything.

Marino-Shula's dolphins and Schnellenberger/Jimmy J's Canes in the 80s.

So, have the Phillies always been referred to as Fightin' Phillies? This seems new to me.

Actually pretty meh for Miami teams. I followed Marino but lost interest in the Dolphins when he retired. I started rooting for the 'Canes when they played (and lost) the Buckeyes in 2002. Don't really follow either of them regularly though.

You realize this does nothing to strengthen your argument. You were a Miami fan until Marino retired and you started rooting for the 'Canes once the made the national title game. Yeah, I really have no idea where people get this perception of you from. |

I rooted for the 'Canes because I hate Ohio State. I don't really pay attention to them otherwise. FWIW, they made other title games prior to that one and I didn't root for them. In addition, they actually lost the one I rooted for them in, so I fail to see where the problem is. I liked watching Marino play, didn't really care about the Dolphins all that much, and I hardly pay attention to them now (although I will still root for them against teams I dislike). I guess if all this makes me a bandwagon fan, so be it. There are millions of people that do the same thing. I don't root for a team because they win, as evidenced by my liking of the same teams since childhood. But I guess it is easy for people to pile on someone when they can hide behind a keyboard on a message board. *sigh*

Just going by what you said. You never claimed you liked Marino or hated OSU. You said you were a fan of those teams. I love Peyton Manning, but don't call myself a Colts fan. I rooted against USC a few years ago, but don't consider myself a Texas fan. I'm not piling on, just trying to explain why people kid you about it. Like who you like, I'm sure none of us could care less. But when you root for every trendy team you make yourself a target for comments like that. |

Fair enough. Looking back at that post, I guess I shouldn't have said I was a fan of teams that I am not a fan of. I realize that it looks like I am a fan of all-world teams that win all the time, but I have been a fan of these teams my entire life (or most of it), win or lose, I still like them.

I actually did that with the Cowboys. Rams were always #1 (when they were local), but I followed UCLA star Aikman to Dallas and rooted for them while he was there. After he retired, I lost interest pretty quick (I was able to maintain for another year while Emmitt was still there, but after that, fugedaboutit), so I definitely know what you mean about the Marino-Miami thing.

I actually don't dislike too many of the Yankee players. I think Girardi is a class guy...same with Jeter and Posada. I just couldn't stand Nick Swisher, the backup catcher, and Jaba. Every time I saw them on tv I wanted to punch them in the face. |

Exactly. At least someone understands where I am coming from. If the Yankees go on to lose 100 games for the next 20 years I will still be a fan of them and nobody else. I am still a fan of the hapless Michigan Wolverines (they should be better next year though), and I am wondering how much longer the Red Wings success will last. In any case, my loyalty to these teams will never die.

I can't stand Molina either, and don't much care for Joba. Why don't you like Swisher though? By all accounts he is a great team guy and easy to get along with.

Very fitting that Howard's opposite field fly out was the final homer hit in Yankee stadium this year. Looked like it shouldn't even make the warning track when it left the bat.

I saw an interview with Victorino where he was saying how shitty it felt for him to be the last out in game 6. Can't say I blame him.

Pretty much the baseball equivient of being posterized, at least he put a bat on the ball. It has to be a little bit of redemption for Eric Hinske. He probably had to watch the last pitch of the 2008 World Series over and over again (where he whiffed at that Lidge slider). Now he's got another ring.
