Mike and Mike are horrible. Can't stand how ESPN pushes them on things they aren't good at.
I like Gruden and think having a coaches perspective in the booth is nice. I think he was trying a little too hard to be noticed instead of just pitching in with insightful things that a coach would say. |

You know you're getting old when at the end of a game like tonight, you expect to see it about 5 years on "Alcoa's Fantastic Finishes"

Well, they do have the highest rated, most listened to morning show, I believe. That's why they put them on tv.

That doesn't mean it's good. And be curious if this is actually true (JiMG?) - but there are a lot of ways to spin ratings to say this, I'd find it hard to believe if they lead in any market individual market that they are in.

This could be the worst defense in the league. Pass defense was already horrible last year, they basically return the exact same personnel and the run defense looks absolutely pathetic this far. Only so long you can keep sending out a 47 year old Jamal Williams and asking him to stop the other teams running game all by himself.
And LOL at Kevin Burnett trying to cover a tight end in space. "uh, where'd he go..." |

FYI, Yahoo PBP for that last play:
4th-20, BUF30 0:01 T. Edwards passed to D. Schouman to the right for 23 yard gain. lateral to R. Parrish for 4 yards. lateral to F. Jackson for 3 yards. F. Jackson fumbled. R. Parrish recovered fumble I checked on Jackson earlier, and I'm about 99% sure he had 5 catches for 80 yards. Now he's at 5 for 83, with no lost fumble listed. |

What do we have to do to get Gus Johnson on something better than CBS' 2nd or 3rd best game of the week?

It feels very, very weird rooting for the Raiders. Can I just root for Thomas Howard and Johnnie Lee Higgins instead?

Sounds about right. I did notice it went from 80 to 83 at some point. I kept seeing 9 yards on NFL.com so I wasn't sure if it was added in. I guess I should just be happy it wasn't for -1 yards. Although I wonder if they subtract the yardage on the fumble from him since it ended in a dead ball. |

He did the Cincinnati game this week. I guess you could argue the Denver fluke TD play was deserving of the over the top play by play he did but he also was shoveling a lot of that over the top intensity/excitement out for somewhat meaningless plays by both teams throughout the game. He is a little too much. (I like him for March Madness and non-Cincinnati games but I think it's because I flip around so much to both that I only get him in limited doses.) |

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe being with the Mikes has made him stoopid. Young is better than Ditka, who they had with them last year.

That might be the worst call I have ever seen. He never actually lost possession of the ball even when it hit the ground. His arm is still under the ball. The ref got that wrong. Horribly wrong. WOW.

if they rule that an incompletion, they might as well rule it a fumble every time a guy runs in the endzone and drops the ball to the ground

does it matter even if he did lose control when he hit the ground? i'm with steve young on this one, i thought it was as long as you had possession and both feet on the ground, it's done with, TD.

The Raiders don't look too bad right now. I hope they win just because Phillip Rivers is a dick.

I don't get it. If he stands up on both feet it's a touchdown, if he stands on both feet and falls down it's and the ball gets loose it's a no-catch?

Oakland gets robbed of a TD, because of the pathetic ticky-tacky technicalities of maintaining possession all the way to the ground.
2 feet down, possession, body/butt on the ground, then ball comes out. |

I'll disagree in a way. The ball moved as it hit the ground, something which has been highlighted in MANY broadcasts before as being something which will mean incomplete. With that said, I thought the rule was for going to the ground while making a catch because of the receiver's actions, not because he was being tackled (The leaning out of bounds toe tap comes to mind, or diving for a catch in general). I think it was a bad interpretation of the rule but his arm was not under the ball when he hit the ground.
