If the Phillies can manage to win the Series, Utley is the new Mr. October. That's 4 for him in the Series, right?

He had a two run HR in game 3 to bring them within 1, the go ahead double last night, and the RBI single in the first today. Not exactly three inconsequential hits.

Survive and advance. That's all that matters. At least one more game and one more day.

The ball was coming down, yes. That's what balls do when they're hit in the air and travel long distances. Are you Tim McCarver? The only thing preventing it from going over the wall was the camera.

I know you are a Philly fan, but don't be silly, it was a house rule before the game even started. "It looked like the camera was out over the fence," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "The umpire told me that before the game that they talked about that, and if it hit the camera that it was going to be a home run." |

It doesn't matter. Cole should have never thrown that pitch, nor the breaking ball he threw to Pettite.
That loss and turning point of the Series is on Cole's head/shoulders; not on some right-field camera. |

Is Hamels done in Philly? Not the most forgiving fans and he seems to have completely lost the respect of his teammates:
hxxp://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Aqcz2U0apVhtERPGQSLjkfI5nYcB?slug=ti-hamelsmyers110209&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Myers is a douche for saying that after such a huge win, but he's kind of right. Just an absolutely bizarre statement from a guy who needs to be ready for a game 7 if there is one. |

Czaban had Dibble on this morning and asked him what Manuel should do with Hamels. "If I was Manuel I'd keep him in the dugout sitting next to me for the next two games" was pretty much the reply. Shelve him, see if you can get him straightened out for next season, if he hasn't completely lost the respect of his teammates.

I don't get it, he's obviously bummed about not pitching well this season and postseason and hopes it all ends soon to get a fresh start on next season. He's obviously still trying and pitching, but I can't imagine the mental exhaustion of a 6 month season of people telling you how much you suck (during a down year that is better than most pitchers' up years). Brett Myers needs a slap.

Your game 7 starter says that "he can't wait for the season to be over" after losing game 3 at home and putting you in a 2-1 hole? I'm sure he doesn't mean that he's quitting and it's a throwaway remark but you can see why it's got people riled up. "I'm bummed about losing this game but I'll be supporting my teammates for the rest of the series and I'll be ready to redeem myself if called upon" is a bit of a better message to send.
No argument Myers is an ass though and needs a slap. |

Seriously - people whining about Hamels can have douchebags like Brett Myers (who apparently tried to pick a fight with Hamels), instead of one of the best young starters in baseballs. This is why baseball players need to watch Bull Durham - don't ever be honest with the media.

I still love Hamels and Lidge and every member of that 2008 squad for what they did. That should never be forgotten and most reasonable sports fans in the city feel that way as well.
That being said, I do think Hamels needs to be shelved for the rest of the playoffs because he has lost confidence. That doesn't mean I want him gone or don't thing he can be a key cog for the future. Kid is only 24 or 25 years old and he still has nasty stuff. In fact, off-season priority numero uno for the team is to get Hamels right, whatever it takes. Newsflash guys. There are idiot fans in every sports town who turn on guys at the drop of a hat. Just because they're vocal shouldn't mean they speak for an entire fan base. Last edited by RedKingGold : 11-03-2009 at 01:07 PM. |

I was talking about this very fact with my dad last night. No matter how much Hamels is struggling, or Howard, or Feliz...they were a huge part of the success last year. Hamels had a great 2008 Post season, Feliz had the game winning hit in the Series clincher, Howard has been clutch so many times through out the year. Lidge was 48 for 48. I am disappointed but I will not give up on them. They could've easily folded up their tents last night and just went through the motions, but like other times this year when their back was against the wall, they played a great game. Quote:

Put me in the camp that thinks the Hamels thing is WAAAY overblown. The guy was frustrated. He's had a subpar season and got shelled in Game 3. That doesn't mean he's given up.

A good article. Pedro Martinez, on form, is the greatest pitcher of my lifetime (and probably everyone else here); his 1999 and 2000 may both be the best pitching seasons in baseball history. I remember arguing with some old farts at the OOTP boards about this, but Pedro was a better version of the pitcher they always imagined Sandy Koufax to be. Anyway, I say - go Phillies! |

Pedro's topping out his fastball in the low eighties in the 1st inning. This will not end well.

I imagine it's got to be a pretty short list, but how many players have won a World Series title with both the Yankees and the Red Sox?
You've got Babe Ruth, Carl Mays and Sam Jones, all of whom were on the 1918 team and won at least one ring with the Yankees of the 1920s. Johnny Damon is currently in position to join them. I can't find any players from 2004/2007 who won a Series with the Yankees, so it seems like it's just those four guys. Am I missing anyone? |

Hinske is credited with winning 3 WS in a row with 3 different teams, I believe.

Scratch that, he appeared in 3 straight with different teams.
He's had a PA in all of them.

Congrats to the Yankees and their fans. Except RomaGoth, he should be a Tigers fan, not an elitist Yankees fan.
But to the rest of you deserving New Yorkers congrats.
