I no longer have any newbie friendly teams after I defeated Glengoyne 4-0 with my darkies.

I have never received such a pounding as tonight against Anxiety's Dark Elves. Down five guys on the first drive...and then things didn't get much better.

4-0

I had a blitzer killed, a lineman with a Broken Arm, and on the last roll of the game I double skulled to put another lineman out with a niggling injury.

My humans are sorry they took the field tonight. They might hang their coach before their next trip to the pitch.

Dice were lucky for me tonight - two games with Necro and Darkies and I inflicted 10 casulties

I'm home early, and I have the wife's permission.

I have a Chaos Dwarf team with two games, a beat to hell human team, and a fresh Wood Elf team.

My elves are falling faster than my humans last night.

It's still in the first half, and I'm down five players for the game. Four badly hurt, and one serious -- niggling injury.

I thought that I couldn't do any worse than I did against anxiety last night. This was just brutal.

I think I made some bad player placement choices early, and then it just snow-balled. Nothing I did worked out. My Luck number dropped to 14%.

It was really unbelievable. Except I saw it happen.

GG, the dice went my way (and you made a few questionable moves, that you won't when you get more experience)

At least it wasn't a cas fest like the last game I played

I'm slowly understanding the power of tackle zones. I should be a decent opponent by the end of the season.

Tackle zones and assists, are the secret to Blood Bowl. Fozzie is very good at applying tacke zones to players, and essentially pinning his opponents in place. I can do it occasionally in spots, but Foz can tie down my entire team down after down. That tells me it is both something he is good at doing, and also that I'm doing something wrong.

Just gotta keep after it.

Sonce I'm home today, and likely no one else is at least for a couple more hours, it's time for another edition of my series how to Play Blood Bowl.

The dice can be strange creatures, my friends, as anyone who's seen more then 1 rr 1 in a half can attest to. But, only.. about probably one game out of 4 are decided by the dice directly. The other 75% of games are decided by the things you do that DON'T require a die to be rolled to do.

It's the things you do to make the opponent required to roll dice to do what HE wants.

For example.. Dwarves (me) vs Elves (opponent). If I put my Dwarves on the line.. unless I'm very lucky what I'll have is the Elves will knock a hole in the defensive line, and then it's ollie ollie oxen free as the Elves go running downfield for a pass and a likely two turn score. I hate elves

Instead, I hang them back. If elves break through, they'll be surrounded. If they decline to go willy nilly downfield, I've made them play unelfy, with the attendant risks.

Rule 1 The name of the game when setting up and the first turn or two after a kickoff is DENIAL OF OPTIONS. If the offense has several options to choose when deciding where to attack you.. they make you REact. That's not so good. Fortune favors the first to act (assuming you succeed of course )

Rule 2: The more times you make the opponent roll dice, the more chance he has to have his turn flame out quickly, giving you the initiative. For example, in my game against Glengoyne, when he sent his guys downfield, I quickly surrounded them with two dwarves on either side (Up and down or left and right, if possible, that way they can't dodge straight out into the clear like with a diagonal, causing another die roll, and another chance for a turnover! ).

This is especially good for bashy teams, because then that opposing coach is going to be sweating every move, cuz if he DOES have an early turnover, your bashy team gets to.. yup.. BASH. Trust me, it's a lot easier game to play when you have 11 on the field and the opponent has less then 11.

Rule 3: Know your distances.

This is a hard one to do automatically at first, but.. anytime you need to know what they can do to stop them, remember the following rule. For a player to be completely safe, check the nearest players. If they are less then their MA+2 (or if they have sprint, MA +3) away, they can get next to you (and if they have one GFI left.. they can hit you!). This becomes important if your passer is alone in your half. If they knock down the ball carrier, unless you roll dice really well or the opponent really poorly, you're about to get ready to receive another kickoff. This can be used offensively as well...

The bashy team might consider the Gutter Runner 3 squares away from the end zone a bigger threat then the one 8 squares away.. But if they don't cover that 2nd one as well and you get the ball to him, it's still a TD.

Most teams have a MA of 5-7 on their players. So 7-9 squares away (remember, two gfi, especially if they have RR!) unattended players can score. Usually, most bashy teams won't risk throwing the ball.. but if the ball carrier gets in that range, alarm bells should be going off, yelling "GET THIS GUY IN AS MANY TZ's AS POSSIBLE!!!
