Depends on the Asians. You've got a Chinatown downtown, which is probably the second scariest place in Boston after the parts of Dorchester where 1/2 the gun violence in the city occurs, but nobody ever mentions the Cambodians up in Lowell or down near Revere Beach, or the Brazilians/Portuguese who are the largest immigrant group in the area. And when do the Cape Verdeans get their say?

Not a movie, but Boston Public had a black principal and a couple black teachers (Sharon Leal, Loretta Devine).

Michael Bishop lost to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers this year in the playoffs too. We Canadians give black QBs their chance. Look at Warren Moon. |

I'm saying Boston Public got cancelled and was widely controversial. Then they tried the guy on another Boston show and he lasted one episode. Drawn your own conclusions my white friend.

CFL seems to be about 50% black at the QB position eh? I can't even remember who the last white Bomber starting QB was (Dinwiddie and other backups that played when Glenn or Khari were hurt don't count in my book).

Who did Khari replace? Was he white? All I can remember is booing him and chanting "Khari" every time he got sacked, no idea who he was.

Are you talking about Sammy Garza, the great UTEP QB? Well, great for UTEP standards...he was a stud in the mid-eighties. He's still third on UTEP's all time list with 474 yards from scrimmage in a single game, and he was the all-time leader in YFS until Jordan Palmer came along.

Yep, that's the one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sammy_Garza
He was the Bomber's backup for 4 or 5 years in the early 90's, mostly because he married the coach/gm's daughter (or at least, that was the running joke at the time).

http://www.medialifemagazine.com/art...ble_record.asp
The New England Patriots’ pursuit of a perfect season is proving to be a big boon for National Football League carriers, and ESPN is the latest to benefit. Monday’s game between the Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens, which came down to the final play, became the most-watched program in basic cable history, besting Disney’s “High School Musical 2.” The “Monday Night Football” game averaged 17.5 million total viewers, according to Nielsen, 300,000 more than the debut of “HSM 2” in August. The game drew 12.5 million households, also a cable record, and was the most-watched program of the night on any network on a night when two broadcasters, Fox and CBS, were in reruns. “MNF” also finished first in primetime among viewers 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54. The game bested ESPN’s previous network high of 16 million viewers for an Oct. 23, 2006, game between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants. ... Two weeks ago the Philadelphia Eagles played the Patriots in a tight game on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football.” The game scored the franchise’s best viewership since moving to NBC in fall 2006, averaging 21.81 million total viewers. A few weeks earlier, the Indianapolis Colts had a fourth quarter lead on New England in a battle of two undefeateds, which the Patriots again won in the final minutes. That game on CBS drew the largest Sunday afternoon audience for a regular-season game in at least 20 years, with some 33.8 million watching. The Patriots have four games remaining, including their finale on NFL Network on Dec. 29. If they are still undefeated at that point, the game will likely smash the network’s record of 10.1 million viewers for the Cowboys-Green Bay Packers game set last week.

I can't believe it. I really can't believe it.
Seriously, the record was held by "High School Musical 2"? What the fuck?

The weekly leaders in cable viewing, and a number of the most-watched shows ever on cable are Disney & Nick shows, either Sponge Bob or one of the HSM's or similar. Recent week's most-watched cable shows are a bit of an anamoly since there are more sports & movies than usual (SciFi has to be jacked about the success of Tin Man). A typical top 15 for cable includes at least half Sponge Bob's, a couple of Disney Channel shows that target 'tweenage girls, and (recently) the first-run Law & Order:CI and lower ratings for the two hours of Raw that shift them toward the bottom half of the top list. edit to add: It's basically a function of behavior differences. Adults are scattered across a hundred channels or so while kids from about 8 to 14 are clustered on a couple of channels several nights a week. So on a street with 10 households, Disney/Nick shows are scoring in 6 of them, while ESPN gets 2, Lifetime gets 2, Discovery gets 1, CNN & FXNC get 1 each, etc.

I can see SpongeBob being among the leaders (do they even still make new episodes of that?), but High School Musical 2? I don't know much about the High School Musical movies, but they look like something that's targeted to 13-year-old girls. Are there older kids or even boys watching this? I have no idea. I'm far out of their target market, and I don't have any kids of my own.

Biggest phenomenon to hit the 'tweens other than maybe Hanna Montana. It even spawned an "On Ice" show for cryin' out loud.

Was the first movie ever released in theaters, or was it just straight to the Disney Channel and into the stratosphere?

Both straight to TV....they had like 3 DVD versions of the first one. The 2nd one is huge as well. I think volume 3 is going to the theatre. I hope all this talk of HSM smokes Ksyrup out of the woodwork, he's been gone for awhile(and was a notable non-fan).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_school_musical - apparently the soundtrack was the highest selling album in the US in 2006 also.
In my "embarrassed to admit" list, I have one of the songs in my iPod.
