Thanks Racer! I have a spreadsheet I've been updating pick by pick, but can't for the life of me get it post in here without looking all wonky and unreadable.
I'm heading to the pool for a little while, I should be back between 4 and 5, depends on how long the kids want to stay though. I have lists from Racer and Izulde...Racer is here and Izulde isn't up for a while, so I don't think there should be any problems with me being gone for a few hours. I'll be on IM if you need me though (yahoo - mobilejal0430). |

6.12 (Redux) Mark Twain - Scribe (1800s)
"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him." "Fiction is obliged to stick to possibilities. Truth isn't." "Facts are stubborn things, but statistics are more pliable." "I have never let my schooling interfere with my education." "I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying that I approved of it." "It usually takes more than three weeks to prepare a good impromptu speech." "Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow." "We have a criminal jury system which is superior to any in the world; and its efficiency is only marred by the difficulty of finding twelve men every day who don't know anything and can't read." 7.1 Pol Pot Historical Evil (1960s & 1970s)
Want to talk about mass murders? Let's not forget Pol Pot who managed to kill between 750,000 and 1.7 million people, or a QUARTER of his country during his disastrous rule as head of the Khmer Rogue of Cambodia. Last edited by Barkeep49 : 06-26-2008 at 02:18 PM. |

Hopefully Spleen stops by the next 15 minutes or so before I leave. Otherwise, as long as it's alright with everyone else, I will send LWSFS my first and second choice for picks so I don't delay things and so we don't have to wait for Oliegirl to get back.

Agreed. The only reason why I took Galileo is because I decided the 1600s was much harder to fill then the era in which all my backups come from (there's enough that I could have waited until the 12th round to draft one). Since he was my top choice for the 1600s, I took him. |

7.4 Dalai Lama religious figure 2000's-present
Anyone the Chinese communists don't like has got to be good. From his website: Three Main Commitments in Life Firstly, on the level of a human being, His Holiness first commitment is the promotion of human values such as compassion, forgiveness, tolerance, contentment and self-discipline. All human beings are the same. We all want happiness and do not want suffering. Even people who do not believe in religion recognize the importance of these human values in making their life happier. His Holiness refers to these human values as secular ethics. He remains committed to talk about the importance of these human values and share them with everyone he meets. Secondly, on the level of a religious practitioner, His Holiness second commitment is the promotion of religious harmony and understanding among the world's major religious traditions. Despite philosophical differences, all major world religions have the same potential to create good human beings. It is therefore important for all religious traditions to respect one another and recognize the value of each other's respective traditions. As far as one truth, one religion is concerned, this is relevant on an individual level. However, for the community at large, several truths, several religions are necessary. Thirdly, His Holiness is a Tibetan and carries the name of the Dalai Lama. Tibetans place their trust in him. Therefore, his third commitment is to the Tibetan issue. His Holiness has a responsibility to act as the free spokesperson of the Tibetans in their struggle for justice. As far as this third commitment is concerned, it will cease to exist once a mutually beneficial solution is reached between the Tibetans and Chinese. However, His Holiness will carry on with the first two commitments till his last breath. Last edited by LastWhiteSoxFanStanding : 06-26-2008 at 03:24 PM. |

The curious thing about the Dalai lama is the act that they aren't really individuals, they all really comform to a pretty limited outlook and path throughought their times. So If you take one Dalai Lama, you pretty much get them all. |

Ok, AENeuman let me know of another pick this morning to keep this moving:
7.6 Robert E Lee, Military Leader, 1800's Admirers pointed to his character and devotion to duty, not to mention his brilliant tactical successes in battle after battle against a stronger foe. Military historians continue to pay attention to his battlefield tactics and maneuvering, though many think he should have designed better strategic plans for the Confederacy. However, it should be noted that he was not given full direction of the Southern war effort until very late in the conflict. His reputation continued to build and by 1900 his cult had spread into the North, signaling a national apotheosis.[44] Today among the devotees of "The Lost Cause," General Lee is referred to as "The Marble Man." |

7.7 Ansel Adams - WW2/1950s (Artist)
Perhaps the best known and beloved nature photographer of all time. His most famous works of those in Yosemite (Half Dome), Tetons (Snake River) and New Mexico (Moonlight, Taos and the internment camps) were taken during this period. His lasting legacy includes helping to elevate photography to an art comparable with painting and music, and equally capable of expressing emotion and beauty. As he reminded his students, “It is easy to take a photograph, but it is harder to make a masterpiece in photography than in any other art medium". |

Izulde's Pick
7.8 - 2. Vincent van Gogh - Artist (1800s) van Gogh was an absolute master of color and mood and his impressionistic-style paintings are both distinctive and reknowned in the world today. He is one of the most influential painters on modern-day artists and his life story is one of bittersweet tragedy with mental illness, the infamous ear-cutting incident and his lifelong affection and closeness with his brother Theo. This is the last pick I have from Izulde, so hopefully he's back before it cycles back around to him... |

OK, LarryMcG is on the board followed by Noop/DT at 7.12 and 8.1.
Bad news, I'm heading out for the night, my hubby has a softball game and we are grabbing dinner out before we head to the game. I wont be home until at least 11. Chief will be here long before then though. I'll check in quickly before we leave in 15 - 20 minutes, but after that I'm out for the night. |
