What an awesome day of basketball. I say again, there better not be this much drama in tomorrow's early game

If I didn't know better, I'd say Donovan McNabb had something to do with the last play for Arizona....

Yeah, Arizona's only been in 3 of the last 5 Elite 8s.

What the hell was that shot? They only needed two points...why take that shot?

As an aside, my dad just called me and said in the final 3:30 (with IL down 13), there were a grand total of two fouls called against Illinois. That's pretty amazing given the position Illinois was in. Still, Arizona should have won.

It'll take a couple more trips to the Elite 8 to shake the stigma of losing to a #15 seed in the first round...

That was like 12 years ago - sheesh. They've only made 6 Elite 8s, 3 final fours and one championship since.

Still, Arizona had to play tougher than that. You knew that Illinois was going to have a big run in them playing in Chicago. I'll be rooting for the Illini to win it all, they are a tough team.

Again, Arizona has been 6 Elite 8s, 3 final fours and won one championship since. It's slightly different than what Lavin did

I'm not sure what is worse. Being a WVU or Arizona fan today. WVU blew a 20-point lead, but it was over 25 game minutes. Arizona blew a 15-point lead, but had a great chance to win it in overtime, had a timeout, and got a horrendous shot off in like 15 seconds.

Basketball season might be over for me after today. I don't think my stomach can take anymore.

I'm just still bitter about that first round Arizona loss, just because it cost me the winning spot in the pool that year. That was the losing margin for me, that one game.

No ill intent towards the Wildcats, except for that one incident...

The Miami of Ohio one killed me a while back, but I think that was a 5-12. I had them going out in the second round the season they won the title. If there's one thing about Arizona basketball, it certainly will give you gray hair

dola, I was the biggest Illinois fan growing up near St. Louis. I remember going to the "Braggin' rights" game for 6 straight seasons. So, if Arizona is going to get beat like that, atleast it happened against Illinois

I'm so glad Hassan is going pro. Listening to the Arizona press conference and he was supposed to drive to the hoop (had the best matchup) and either score or kick it to Frye on the high post or Stoudamire on the wing. He freakin had a brain fart and did his best Sling Blade impression at the top of the key

I have to give credit to Lute. The press is just baiting him to rip the refs down the stretch and he refuses to do it in the press conference. That's an unbelievable level of class that I certainly wouldn't be able to do in his spot.

I'm just thrilled the Big Ten is doing well in the tournament, after pretty much losing CBS' respect. In the sweet sixteen, they showed the conference records in the tournament and didn't even mention the Big Ten was 6-2 at that point, 2nd only to the ACC.

Now, if they can go 1 for 2 tomorrow, I'll be pumped up. Hopefully it's Michigan St. Being an IU/Big Ten fan so close to Louisville, I don't think I could stand it if both Kentucky teams make the Final Four. Damn You WVU!

I'd bet good money that Lute coaches another 5 seasons. Coaching is his life and he is in great health. Plus, in the last 9 years he's made 5 Elite 8s, 2 final Fours and one Championship. Why should he retire?

What do most of the Elite coaches (Coach K, Knight, Pitino,...) have left to prove?

Lute lost his wife a few years back and is now married to some Oil Tycoon (23 years his senior) who spends most of her time traveling. What would he retire to right now?

In 6-7 years, she will probably be ready to retire with him and he will be approaching 80. I could see him giving it up then. But as long as she works, I see no reason he should stop (health permitting, of course). The guy is 70 and not even on any medication.

UCLA will be good in a couple seasons. Then again, Lute dealt with good teams from the Jim Harrick/Steve Lavin eras fairly well

Are we talking about UCLA or Arizona here?

It's been, what? close to a decade since UCLA's last trip to the elite 8?

Yeah, my poor dad and his brackets. Both my parents are 'zona alumns and so I also cheer for them and having lost to a 15, 14, 13 or 12- i forget, and 11 in the first round in my lifetime... ouch. Those just smart.

Bought time we started getting some calls. Even against UW-Mil they weren't getting any calls. Refs still missed about 40 traveling violations. Love how they only time they call traveling during the tournament, it wasn't. (unc vs. nova)

Foul calls on the Illini/Zona game last night:

Arizona: 10
Illinois: 18

Pretty low numbers for both teams in an OT game.

I'm stunned that Wisky is up four early in the second half against UNC. They have maybe two guys who can compete athletically with the Tar Heels: Tucker and Taylor. Wisky doesn't have a clue how to handle May. But they just find ways to hang around in games.

I wouldn't say that was the way it played out. It was inconclusive, not conclusive either way. I thought the 3rd angle which they only showed once or twice made it look like his foot was on the line.

There are only two things I want out of the NCAA tournament: SU win and a UK loss. If the former does not happen, then I wish with every fiber of my being for the latter to happen.

If they had ruled it to be a two, it would have stayed a two. No way you could tell from any of those angles.

What great games in the elite 8. Probably the most exciting whole round of tournament action ever, and MSU and UK are still playing (2nd OT).

Salim Stoudamire is the best player in college basketball, despite what happened yesterday.

Why didn't they foul when the shot clock was turned off? Is the strategy to see if the other team is stupid enough to take a shot?
