Sudoku
Anyone tried this game yet? I've become addicted lately. Here is a pretty good website for the game:

The fastest I've done the easy was 8 minutes and 2 seconds...still below average. I think I have a better strategy for now. I systematically look for numbers instead of trying to figure out a whole column. For instance, I'll look for 1s, then 2s, then 3s, etc. After that I'll go back to 1s, 2s, etc.

![]() It's more of a flaw in the Internet then anything else. If you throw in 1 number and then click "Am I correct" it will tell you if the number is right or not. Then you kind of go from there. it's pretty much cheating

I can do a "medium" one on that site in anywhere from 7 to 10 minutes, usually. It really comes down to just knowing how to look for answers. I think I did one of the more difficult ones on the site once, and the only difference was that I got to a point at which a square could be one of two numbers. I would try one of the numbers, and if it was heading the wrong way, I would use the other number and everything would turn out fine. I have starting doing Sudoku puzzles if I need to kill about 15 minutes for some reason or another. For me, it's the ultimate time waster.

I just scored a 4:15 on easy and a 6:35 on medium. I'll have to try an evil.

I was fairly hooked on these for a while until I introduced my wife to them and she could finish harder ones that me in half my time. That really killed them for me, I couldn't feel clever when I finished one anymore. So I'm back on the crosswords.

I started doing this game a few months back when they showed up in the newspaper, but stopped. after about a week There isn't really any creative thinking involved in these... you just follow the exact same strategy everytime and you're guaranteed to get it right. Kind of loses the fun factor pretty quick after that.

I'm not too into the game because once you know how to "do it," it's usually kind of easy. I end up doing crosswords to kill my time instead, with the hopes of increasing my vocabulary. Of course, anything that drags people away from the tv and gets them using their brains really isn't a bad thing. That said, when I saw this thread, I thought of this comic: http://www.little-gamers.com/index.php?comicID=1196 and couldn't help but chuckle. Not that I have anything against Sodoku or Sodoku players, just reminded me of the strip.

If I could find a website that would generate virtually unlimited numbers of crossword puzzles, I'd do those instead. For now, I suppose I'll continue with Sudokus.

I got bored one night over the holliday and picked up one of my wife's sudoku books to give it a shot. The one she had contained only Difficult, extreme, and Super Doku(Hex based) puzzles. All of the Difficult ones were completed, so I had my first sudoku experience with an extreme puzzle. A little over two hours later, I scribbled in the last of the numbers. I didn't know any of the techniques, so I essentially "brute forced" my way through it. It took a while, but it was fun. I sat down with my wife, and in two minutes she showed me half a dozen techniues she has learned. Armed with my new knowledge, I'm going to try my hand at another one or two tonight.
I guess I'm officially on the sudoku wagon. |

As amusing as it is at first, you probably won't be on the wagon for too long. ![]()

I just got on the wagon last Friday as it helped pass the time at work. Today I've become more bored with them. They are interesting at first, but like tk said, once you learn the techniques they just become a race of how fast you can spot the patterns. Maybe, the hard ones will be more interesting.
