help me, I must be an idiot (wireless mouse question)
So I got a wireless optical mouse for the laptop for christmas. Plugged it in the USB port and got the "Ding" saying it was detected. I also get a popup in my tray saying it is installed. But when I move the mouse around, it's not going anywhere.
So I open up the control panel, and see it is listed there. It also says it is working properly. It didn't come with any software, so not sure what the problem is. Though I do see for location it says "Location 0". Tried plugging it in to the PC and got the same exact scenario. What am I doing wrong? It's a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse, Model 1023 running on XP. |

Is there a pad that comes with it? If so, it needs to be on a level ground so the mouse can move properly.

I've got a pair of old rechargeables that last about a month, with the computer being used a good 6-10 hours a day. I love using the rechargeable NiMH batteries because they just save you money and having to throw away batteries in the long run (that whole "if it takes little to no effort to help the environment, I'm all for it" thing). I always have some in the charger in the bathroom, ready to go when the previous batch goes out.

My limited experience says it varies ... which is why I've abandoned optical mouses after a couple of tries (battery life seemed to be 2-3 weeks & drove me SFN very quickly). Most people seem to like 'em though, so don't let my cantankerous nature discourage you.

Usually you have 2 connect buttons one on the sending unit and one on the mouse.
You need to press them to set up the connection |

I think some wireless mice go into a low-power mode when they are being activated -- that's the only thing I can think of that explains why one mouse goes throught batteries so much faster than another mouse. |

I had the same problem. I now have one with a recharger in the sending unit. Greatest thing since sliced bread. |
