Dola: Plus, I'm half thinking about DVR'ing the whole game anyway. My "WyldLife" (YL for middle schoolers) club meets on Saturday nights, and I need to be there a little before 6pm, so I'm going to have to leave the house late 3rd/early 4th anyway.

When we're playing Miss St or Kentucky or a team like that - yes. But I think the game on Saturday will require my full attention.

I'll be leaving shortly for Fullerton for JACC, but I can play when I get home late tomorrow night (assuming that I can actually connect to anybody; I don't think I could with SMAC).

Oh yeah, I can play after around 10:00pm on Friday night, maybe even earlier. Tucker's gonna beat the snot of out North Springs in a completely meaningless game, so I expect to be home on the early side.

I'd be game, haven't even gone through the tutorial yet, but installing now and should be able to fool around for a few hours with it before I go to work so I won't be completely lost.
I'm booked tonight and tomorrow night until probably 11 pm or so Central, but tomorrow morning/afternoon until about 3 CST I'll be free, and most of the day Sunday. |

GameSpy - Multiplayer Test Report
posted by Civrules at 10-28-2005 17:16 | comments: 0 GameSpy posted a Multiplayer Test Report last Wednesday in which they mention the Multiplayer to be smooth in a variety of cases (joining games, swapping in and out of players, etc). This article was written by Dave Kosak (aka Fargo) and Allen Rausch (Delsyn). "Warrior," from the GameSpot staff had also participated in that game. Delsyn: Actually, I did notice how smoothly the swapping in and out of players went. That strikes me as one of the best features of the game's multiplayer. You don't have quit the game because somebody takes their toys and quits when something doesn't go their way. You can also jump into a game in progress, which means it's easy to find games even when nobody's starting a new one. The article also contains two screenshots of that specific game. http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/civilization-iv/662021p1.html |

I am going to try to start an MP game around 9:00pm in the multiplayer lobby.
The game name will be something like FOFC Multiplayer test. If I can, I will password protect the game. It will be password protected with the password: trout I am thinking that we could try something shorter, like a scenarioe, or I may just start the game with the fast option on.

When I go in to MP, I have to set up a gamespy account. I've tried it a few times, and each time I get the message "The login attempt has failed." Any suggestions?

lol, I don't understand this. Apparently, I already have an account, so I had them resend my password, then I go and try to login, and that doesn't work (says no such username exists). I can't think of any other username variations I would have used. Anyways, I decided to set up a new account. I set that up (not from the civ game, but on gamespyid.com) and it says I'm logged in. I switch back over to civ, and it doesn't work. I figure, maybe I have to be logged out on the site, try that, it doesn't work. I try to login back on the site and guess what.....no such user exists! I just set the damn thing up 2 minutes ago!

I apologize vex, but I messed up one of the settings, and didnt add any AI to the game so nobody else could join...
The game proceeded pretty quickly actually, we were nearing the renisance age by the time I had to leave, after just 2 hours of gameplay. Granted, the settings were on fast, and it was a small map. RailsFS led the whole game, except for like 1 turn near the beginning. I seem to suffer major cash problems around the middle of the classical age, and basically cut my research to 50%. I think the AI definately undervalues producing gold in the beginning, which is a shame, because you need some to keep 100% research. Anyways, about 600AD, he attacked me. I was unprepared, and he quickly razed two of my smaller cities. We then settled into a basic deadlock, with him having the upperhand. I don't think I did a very good job managing my troops, and my troops were definately second class to his. I was also slowed down by the many rivers in my kingdom, and no-one knew how to build a bridge over them. I finally brought a long siege against one of his cities, but even with everything I could muster, I was unable to capture it. Against a well fortified enemy, it is nearly impossible to take a city. If I had one major gripe about the game so far, it has to be this. Catapults are nice, because the reduce the cities defense bonus, but they gain no experience for bombardment, only melee. And any damage they did in my game to troops in the city was nil. Maybe the upgraded one's work much better though. Anyways, i had a blast, and hope that I can play again, with more FOFC people.

You know, I honestly expected the multiplay aspect of the game to be different. I was a bit surprised to see that the gameplay is exactly the same.
Airhog, I have to agree with you on the conquering cities thing. Taking them is entirely too hard. The only reason I was able to raze your two cities was because they were on the edge of your empire, so they didn't have backup from your units yet. I caught a break there. Anyways, I had a lot of fun while it lasted. Would love to do this again with more FOFC guys. I can only imagine how fun that would be with 8 other human players. Teams might make an interesting twist to the gameplay. Who knows. |
