Sound Problems

I am running Win XP, and have never had a problem like this, but recently, I cannot hear the sound on any webpages, or Windows applications (like the startup sounds). All of my software works fine (games, MP3s, etc...).

Any ideas? It must be a setting somewhere, but I tried all the seemingly obvious stuff.

Same exact thing happened to me on my old desktop. I never did figure it out.

I figured it out. My speakers were plugged into the wrong hole in the back of my computer. Strange that some things would still work.
