Ping: Tecmo Bowl fans

Now a version out for Xbox. Almost bought it to see what all the hoopla was about, but decided it would probably not hold up well against current games.

First, you don't know who this is -
Second, you've never played Tecmo Bowl.

What kind of console whore are you?

I love TB! Used to be the greatest tecmo superbowl player in the world - self titled.

Tecmo Bowl is good, but to get the full experience, you have to play Tecmo Super Bowl (the sequel to TB). To me, its still the best football game ever created. We used to play tournaments in my dorm in college. Was great. You can download the game and use a Nintendo Entertainment System emulator to play the game on a computer. Runs perfect. The old gravis 4 button controllers are the best ones to use to play game game. The big, clunky controllers of now-a-days just don't cut it.

did anyone notice that amazon has a 11 cent sale on the tecmo collection?

There is a thread out there about this. I think SA posted it. That is where the discussion about the PSP mods for TSB came from.

Unless somebody called somebody gay and they got rid of the thread.

dola -

Other little tidbits to know...

If you are into all those fancy graphics of today's games, and like to see numbers and names on back of jersey's, you'd probably not liket his game.

But if you like to hear hut hut hut hut hut over and over again, you'll love it.

You can't change players after the ball is snapped on defense.

There are only 4 or 8 plays to call during a game depending if you are playing TB or TSB.

There are multiplayer leagues out there to play Tecmo Super Bowl if you want to go that rout.

Even though TSB is 15-16 years old, mods are created with updated rosters as well as divisions, but the updated players are too good and ruins the game a bit for me. I always go back to playign with original rosters.

word of warning. This is the arcade version of Tecmo Bowl, not the NES version. There is a big difference.

The NES version of TSB was the greatest thing to happen since a hot, naked chick.

That was a great game. Me and two friends played a season, I took the Cowboys and won the Super Bowl. It was really ahead of its time.

I'd say it comes down between TSB, Baseball Stars and Blades of Steel for the best NES sports games ever.

I think the Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES is the best football game created period. None of those madden games ever held my interest. They look great, but gameplay sucks ass.

I like the NCAA series, erpsonally. Madden after that. TSB was great, but I've had years of great memories playing NCAA and Madden with my buddies...

I didn't touch the old thread, so if it's been deleted, you can blame/thank Ryan and/or SkyDog!

I wonder if the old NES I have buried in a box in my basement still works.

yeah, i see what your saying. I too have those memories, but they were with TSB. We still play game today with friends.

Mods created allow you to execute trades and everything, so the game as come a long way due to its dedicated fan base.

I had an unfortunate lapse of console ownership from the Atari 2600 to the Super Nintendo. I never owned anything in between. So I missed out on stuff like Tecmo Super Bowl, and Madden was the first football game I really got in to.

The old Tecmo is one of those game where if I were to meet someone who mentioned they didn't enjoy it, I would seriously question whether I can trust that person's judgement on anything.

We had an FOF TSB League once. We never played a game of it, but got through most of the allocation draft. Kevin from Dell played as the Cowboys.

My Nintendo doesn't work, but I am thinking about getting one of the top-loading ones. Has anyone tried either the knockoffs of them or purchased any for less than $50-75?

My friend got a knockoff for like 20 bucks, and says it works great.

Yeah, really, its hard to argue with this statement.

And seriously, Tecmo is missing out on dollars by not having a new "Super Tecmo Football" game out, especially one with career mode, and customizeability. I dont remember the PSX version as being that bad, it was pretty fun.

Yeah, this is what I was leaning to, just was hoping the battery cart would work to save seasons and such.

If it still gets power but does not "read" games or flashes you probably just need to replace the cartridge connector inside. Look on ebay for "nes 72 pin" and you will see lot of options. I did this, took about 20 minutes but could do it again in 10 if I need to. My NES works like new for about $15.
