Sunshine won't be beaming on the Falcons' opening-day roster but seven of eight draft picks and three rookie free agents will following the team's final roster cut Saturday.

Alaskan rookie free-agent wide receiver Cole Magner, nicknamed "Sunshine," was one of 19 players released to get the roster to 53. The long shot from Bowling Green captured the fondness of teammates for his flypaper hands, but he played split end, where Dez White, Brian Finneran and Roddy White have roster spots secured.

Camp invitee Romby Bryant, a second-year player from Tulsa who plays in the slot behind Michael Jenkins, earned the fifth wide-receiver spot.

One-time starting guard Mookie Moore, who re-aggravated a chronically troublesome shoulder in Thursday's preseason finale at Miami, and Atlanta native Khaleed Vaughn, a defensive end, were the biggest-name players to get cut.

The only other positions where there was some uncertainty came in the secondary. Second-year player Etric Pruitt, who had two preseason interceptions, nabbed the fifth safety spot. Rookie free agent Jonte Buhl made the team as a fifth cornerback.

The deepest position is running back, where six players — three fullbacks and three tailbacks — were retained. Former Arena League player Marlion Jackson and rookie tailback DeAndra Cobb, a kickoff return specialist, made the cut while Jason Wright was released.

Rookie free agent Antoine Cash, who started last season at Southern Mississippi opposite fifth-round draft pick Michael Boley at outside linebacker, made the team.

Third-round draft pick Jordan Beck (broken foot) and guard Steve Herndon (neck) were placed on injured reserve and won't play this season.

Hell, that's one prediction I got right about the Denver running backs. There was little doubt he was going to get cut. He's not fully back from his injury and he's not able to help out with special teams.

Biggest Bronco cut was Terry Peirce. A high round draft pick a couple of years ago, never panned out. (though in his defense, he was picked mainly because the team feared they'd lose Al Wilson and when he was resigned there just wasn't a lot of playing time left for TP)

Broncos keep 2 QB's and 3 kickers. Rice is on the roster, but as a fourth WR. He's going to decide if he wants to continue to play or not. My guess is he won't and that'll be that.

you just might see the dolphins pick up Davey Izulde. It would make sense, the Sabean/Davey relationship was always strong.

edit: dolphins not broncos. silly brain

Yeah I remember that. And he's got to be better than the tripe we have on the roster now.

Oh Danny Boy, where have you gone?

Seriously, U-M is a great football college, but definitely not a good NFL player producer. MSU might be mediocre, but our guys have a lot more NFL tools apparantly.
It's only because so few of the little green men are good enough to make it to the NFL in the 1st place. So little is expected of them, so if one even makes an NFL roster he is viewed as a major success! The only two recent ones I can think of are Tony Banks & Sedrick Irvin. Chuck Rogers could be good if he had a QB that didn't get his shoulder busted every three games or so...

Ok, I know Harrington has his flaws, but WTF?!?! You're now blaming Rogers' shoulder injuries on him? His first shoulder injury came during practice when he got tanlged up with Dre Bly and fell down. His second came in the first game against the Bears. It had nothing to do with the pass, he just his the ground and snap.

What's next? Blaming Harrington for Bailey's knee injury? Garcia's leg?

Give me a break.

Maybe it's my OU homerism, but I have to think Quentin Griffin will get a chance somewhere else. He had fumble and injury problems, but I watched several of his games with Denver, and he can do some good things - at the very least a 3rd down back. I'd be surprised if he stays unemployed long.

He'll get picked back up. He'll also get some major PT somewhere again. Not as a starter, but as a third down back. I doubt that happens this year though. He's still recovering from his injury and just doesn't have that burst right now.

If Jerry Rice decides to retire, does that mean the Broncos will be picking up one of the receivers they have already cut? And was there any chance he was going to be anything more than a 4 WR?

Biggest Seahawks cuts are Terreal Bierria and Jerome Pathon. Could see the Pathon cut coming a mile away after they signed Warrick. Kind of surprised about Bierria.

You obviously have a very bad memory, so let me help you:

Derrick Mason - WR
Muhsin Muhammad - WR
Plaxico Burress - WR
Charles Rogers - WR
Chris Baker - TE
T.J. Duckett - RB
Tony Banks - QB
Flozell Adams - OL
Siitupe Peko - C
Robaire Smith - DE
Josh Shaw - DT
Lemar Marshall - LB
Julian Peterson - LB
Ike Reese - LB
Renaldo Hill - CB
Paul Edinger - K
Dave Rayner - K

Now the above listed players are all starters or solid contributors to their teams. There are 7 other players, all young, that I didn't list. They haven't been in the league long enough to contribute yet.

I hope I illuminated you, BJ.

I know. I'm getting so fucking tired of Harrington being blamed for everything short of Hurricane Katrina. There's plenty of blame to go around on that team, he's just a part of it.

Would you like me to name how many of those guys are pure poop, or on the practice squad? I guarantee that the amount of MSU starters is close to or more than the amount of U-M starters.

Damnit, now I have to do more research.

This is a funny website (found on a Steelers Forum) about one of the Steelers new practice squad players named Chris Samp. Some pretty good stuff.

Gotta admit, I'm getting a little concerned about the Broncos short depth chart at the skill positions. With Griffith and Mo gone...they only have 3 HBs on the roster? With Triandos and Rice gone...do they have enough WRs? And don't even get me started about that 2 QB deal. The Broncs have some old players at those positions...can they weather an injury bug?

Figured you would know better than anyone.

Suprisingly, there is a god

Quote:
PITTSBURGH — The Steelers added a new player to their receiving corps today when they signed free agent veteran Quincy Morgan to a one-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not released.

To make room for Morgan on their roster, Pittsburgh released four-year veteran receiver Lee Mays.

Morgan (6-1, 215), a five-year veteran from Kansas State, was originally selected in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2001 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He played with the Browns for more than three seasons before being traded to the Dallas Cowboys on Oct. 19, 2004, in exchange for wide receiver Antonio Bryant.

In four seasons, Morgan has caught 155 passes for 2,316 yards (14.9 avg.) and 15 touchdowns. He has also returned 11 kickoffs for 267 yards (24.3 avg.). Morgan enjoyed his finest season in 2002 when he set career highs with 56 receptions, 964 receiving yards (17.2 avg.) and seven touchdowns.

Mays, who was originally selected by the Steelers in the sixth round (202nd overall) of the 2002 NFL Draft, had caught 11 passes for 154 yards (14.0 avg.) and returned 36 kickoffs for 750 yards (20.8 avg.) in his three seasons with the team. He missed part of the 2005 preseason with an injured hamstring.
