I'm surprised that I haven't seen anything on the board yet about this, so let me be the first to give a heartfelt welcome home to PFC. Jessica Lynch of the 507th. Here's wishing you a speedy recovery, and I pray that your mental and spiritual recovery will also be full and quick.

Also, even though I have great questions about the conduct of our leaders during this war, let me offer thanks to the marines and special forces that got her out. You guys are the best at what you do, and everyone should be thankful for your efforts. Congrats, and may you all come home safe and soon.

The sad part of that story is they found several bodies in the hospital that she was held at. It does not sound good. I'm happy for her and her family.

Very good news.

Lynch is from West Virginia and I had been reading the local papers about her in the past week or so. It seems as if her family and friends had almost come to terms with her death. A wonderful suprise for them.

I'm very glad to hear this too. I can't imagine what those POWs are going through and especially the women who are probably repeatedly raped. I hope she recovers physically and mentally and look forward to hearing about our military performing more rescue operations like this.

I am very happy she is free, but I hate to think about what they did to her.

At least she is safe now. Hopefully we can get some of the other POW's.

Actually, if memory serves me, the POW women were treated very well during the last war. Much better than the guys. As she was in a hospital bed with multiple gunshot wounds, I doubt they did a whole lot to her.

Keep in mind I'm for the war and understand very well about the professional rapists running around Iraq. Just giving my thoughts.

They're saying she has two broken legs and a broken arm. I'm guessing they didn't treat her so well.

No women POWs, just soldiers. It is good to have any of our soldiers back.

It appears they were tipped off by local residents about her presence in the hospital... we should be grateful that there are decent people living over there willing to risk certain death by sharing that information.

That said, I'm sure the degree of abuse she suffered was unspeakable. Personally, I'm opposed to having women anywhere near combat units for that reason... call me a chauvanist, but chivalry isn't dead in my book...

My grandfather was an Army ranger, and I can say that these boys would have made him proud.

Franklinnoble - I'd agree with you on that point. It breaks my heart to think about how our POWs are treated, and it's doubly over to consider how they might treat women POWs.
