Nevstar, these guys I'm attacking typically have 100 armies or greater, I hadn't thought of that though.

With the new age coming up I thought this should be shared. Here's the fast way to catapults. You can buy them for only $12k!
+1 Worker 250 +1 Worker 250 Saddles & Stirrups 500 Espionage 1k Ballista 2k Watch Tower 3k Trade ($2,500) 4k x2MXP 6k Chain Mail 8k Intelligence 10k Catapults 12k Each item is dependent on the previous item. I believe Watch Tower, Trade and x2 MXP are interchangable.

From here your next tech would be a worker upgrade as it would unlock the first birth rate. This is the point I plan on getting to in the first two days of the new age. Then I will stock pile cash in the trades for a long time.
I'm considering making a push to the 2nd birth rate but I am not confident I can find it quickly and easily. Didn't write down the steps it took to get there.

daedalus, I think the issue is getting catapults AND the 2nd birth rate. Getting to two birthrate at $17k seems feesible but I think you'd put catapluts on the back burner for 3-5 techs.

I'd suggest going for Catapults first and birthrates second - simply put having attacking power will mean you can raid and get more Gold which will help get the later techs more quickly.
Birthrate is vital in the long-run as it helps make your army bigger (or Gold income from production) however because of the size of the attacking multiples I think Birthrate has to be second choice ... |

Here's what I got in order to get Catapults and +2 Birth Rate
+1 Worker 250 +1 Worker 250 Saddles & Stirrups 500 Espionage 1k Ballista 2k Watch Tower 3k Trade ($2,500) 4k x2MXP 6k Chain Mail 8k Intelligence 10k Catapults 12k +1 Worker 14k +1 Birth Rate 16k SP Increase to 6 20k Fence 24k Siege Defense 28k +2 Bith Rate 32k Looking back, I probably could have skipped increasing the SP to 6 and just bought the Fence at $20k. So I think it may be possible to get to the second birth rate at 28K, from there you'll need to shell out 35k for the building. I'd think about getting both birth rate techs in one day and not even building the first one, this will save you 7k in gold.

In how many pushes are you looking to do this? Are you going to grab techs one at a time through cats and then save up for everything to +2 birth rate? |

Haven't decided yet. I think on day one I will login and use my starting gold and "voting gold" to pick up the first 3 techs. Then I will wait until I'm close to 200 attack turns before doing anything else.
Ideally I'd like to get to Birth Rate #2 and build it in those 200 turns, then I think I'd be comfortable using my daily attacks to just put money in Trade and wait a month before doing anything else.

Aren't you afraid of wasting a lot of those 200 turns by not having intelligence? Early in the game, people won't have siege defense and will only have knights. You are going to run into at least some kind of defense for a while. Being able to find the 0-army guys would be a big help early on.

This is an excellent point. Creating an account now and going throught the motions of stealing gold is much easier since there are so many inactive accounts, this will not be so at the new age. Thanks! I guess this will get spanned out a little further. May have to change the starting order to get intelligence earlier.

I think I'd try to get intelligence as quickly as possible. Once there, you should have a fairly easy route to everything else.
I wonder how hard it will be to get gold early. Since everyone will be new, nobody will have any kind of production going on. People will be getting 40-50 gold per half-hour. |

I have been trying to bump up my dormant accounts to help push the guild into the top 20 before the age ends. While looking at one of the voting site I found alink to this game ...
http://www.aarcsoft.com/games.html Kinda like Xkings but more focused on kingdom development. I complete my first 100 turns and have not attacked anyone. |

Well, found trebuchets, probably too late to be able to get them or if I do, to do anything with them.
They unlocked for me after I had purchased the wall upgrade that opens up after you buy the first castle structure. They are offensive only and are as strong as 4 catapaults. Also, there is another level to seige defense (can control which sides you defend, only defend if you have a certain level of gold, etc) and a tech that reduces your battlefield losses by an average of 80%. |

Went completely offensive, burning $30k to turn all my workers into catapults. This put my attack over 65M and allowed me to attack some big defensive guys and move up 1,000 points with kills.
I'm now over 10k and have occumplished my goal for this age.

Heh, I'm planning that same thing, but in about two days, want to see if I can grab the trebuchet technology in the next day or two and get an attack power of around 150 million or so and see how far I can run. Figure if I change all my catapaults to workers, and keep an eye on it while I'm at work, I can buy all trebuchet units in less than a day.

You should be able to buy on trade a half hour, which means that you would save up about $120k in 24 hours, so you are well on your way then

Heh, hit 3 guys huge tonight to get over the top, then traded for some trebuchets which made taking money a snap. Nice time to have had 120 turns saved up Reached my goal of cracking the top 100 (even if it's momentary) and I'm hoping that between all of us, that we've cracked the top 20 guilds and hit the front page!

Myself and my cohorts (or co-accounts) have requested to join Colossal_Might (anyone searching for the Guild pls remember the under score).
I've picked up 10 points using the voting money to purchase the first +1 worker upgrade, feeling being that 300+ Gold for free from voting has to be worth it, especially as attacking gives diddly squat at the moment ... |

I'll be asking to join in just a moment as well.
If anyone is looking to even out the commanders for this age, I never did get any officers last time around. I still managed to finish quite high in the guild, but I'd appreciate some officers to help me keep up with all of the other very active players. Thanks. |

With my TazFTW account I grabbed the third production upgrade (Water Mill) and now I only have the other two techs to choose from (Trade and Scouting).
With my other account I grabbed Scouting and that has led to Saddles and Stirrups and Writing. Last edited by TazFTW : 05-15-2005 at 08:23 PM. |

Its back now - have a look around the lower regions (page 200 down) - the tickers been operating while the site was off-line, there are loads of low rated players with 1500 gold to raid (just amounted around 10k gold by using 1 turn attacks just now ).

You cannot attack someone who has given you a support point?
Crap, some guy was attacking me, I attacked him back and stole some gold. He then attacks 3 times and gives me a support point so I couldn't retaliate. |

Main things which have helped me so far:-
* Look for victim accounts, some of the bigger players have sucker accounts setup (guess by me) which they use as victims to allow them to accumulate points. The normally have smaller numbers of units as they're repeatedly attacked and killed, test them out by a one turn attack and then hit them with a heavier attack if the first one if blocked (ie. you get 0 gold). This will (hopefully) leader to experience points rising fairly rapidly. * Never attack unless you're 100% certain you'll get enough gold to purchase some trade stuff, ie. always allow a buffer of 5-10 attacks beyond what you think you need to accumulate the gold in case some attacks aren't successful - there nothing worth than running out of turns when you've 1,200 gold sitting in your account and you know you'll lose it. * Even if your account is stacked for attack leave a couple of soldiers in your army for defense. The way the game engine is balanced its nearly impossible to lose a soldier if you've only 2 of them defending (no idea why the engine is balanced in this way but hey, might as well take advantage). Having 2 soldiers won't prevent that many gp's being lost from a full attack, but will sometimes hold off the more speculative 1 turn attacks, especially from smaller players. * If you get 'raided' by a player when you're stacking up gold then simply hit him back with a 1 turn attack - a lot of the time you can recover gold and if you've saved some spare attack turns (see other recommendation above) then normally you'll come out on top. If you do scare him off then its worth monitoring him for a few minutes as often they'll run off and attack other people, then you can raid him afterwards ... always pleasant Hope this helps, Marc |

PS> Of my accounts two are attack orientated (marcv2 and haleyv2) and one is nearly pure defense orientated (jakev2).
I'm finding that the attack accounts do very very well initially but it gets trickier to make progress with them as you get higher up the ranks (as potential victims thin out a lot), the defense account seems to get easier as you rise the ranks - not least because the combo of archers, fence, watch tower (and a decent exp multiplier) means that I've a formidable defense with only a few units - leaving the account gaining 100gp a turn with only a small chance of it being raided.. |

That's what I did. Logged under another account and stole the gold he had left (still less than what he took from me ) Quote:
Yeah, I found one of them with my newest guy. The name was Provider, and he had an army of 1 or 2, 50+ units, 30 points, and 10k gold. I hit him with a 5 turn attack and stole 9k of it. But now my 2 main accounts can't hit him because of the point differential. Quote:
Same here, my main account TazFTW is defense oriented and thus has the most points because I get kills from people attacking me. Although it was hard to get gold with an army of just soldiers (who defend, so they can killed and you lose units). Not sure if I want to go for ballistas next or the Tower. My other two accounts are offense oriented but I'm trying to go at the techs differently, just to see what pops up. Chenkenichi went straight for ballistas and now I have knowledge of barracks (still saving up the 15k to build it). Chibata went to knights and then got writing and chain mail. |
