LA Galaxy - Real Madrid

Is anyone else excited about the first big soccer power to play an MLS team. Will LA look like a U6 squad, or will be a legit match. Real seems like they are going to have most of their squad for the match and tour.

Mmmm... I like a good spanking.

Seriously though, Real is in pre-season mode which will probably hamper them quite a bit (along with jet lag, etc..), and they're not going to be going all out. LA is in mid-season form.

I say 3-1 Real.

PS - when is the game, and is it being televised?

Real will probably be going through the motions, treating it, as it is, a friendly, while LA will try to win anyway they can. Talent isn't that even though. 2-0 Real.

I will be surprised in LA can handle the ball control from a big team like that (even their depth) and I doubt they will be able to sustain any sort of continued attack on the Real Madrid side.

They may keep it close, but it definately be an amazing victory in my book if LA won it.

I think that LA plays a similar style offense, which I believe to be becoming the "American" style of soccer. That is a quick, counterattacking offense that is dominated by speed and athletecism.

The mens national team plays a style similar to this as well. Build ups and big centering crosses are usually not a part of the gameplan, instead you ususally find lightning fast runs by one or two players, as we have strikers who are capable of beating defenders in a one on one race.

As if they have a chance against Real? I would say no, but I would love to see the kind of performance that makes the world look twice at the MLS.

and I believe that the match is on July 16, and I have no idea if it will be on TV.

I'm boycotting the game because the Galaxy reneged on a contract to play my favorite team - West Brom - so they could play Real Madrid instead.

I understand why they did it, of course, but I would have gone to the Galaxy/WBA match. Not gonna bother with Galaxy/Madrid.

Will the Galaxy be able to survive?

I don't think either team will care, so no, LA won't even come close.

Is this a first time a World Class soccer team will play an MLS team? I hope it's on Natl. TV in order to gain at least some press coverage.

I think an MLS All-Star team played a top European team before (ManU?), but this is the first time for a 1-on-1 situation.

They play Fulham this year. MLS have done pretty well in friendlies against teams doing preseason tours. Sporting Lisbon, UEFA Cup Finalists this year, did a preseason tour last summer, and lost two of three to MLS teams (including my revs)

Sure they will. But the original poster asked if anybody was excited. I'm not, and my previous post is the reason why.

I though the Spanish clubs were more technical-based then physical-based like the English clubs?

If the US can expand and develop young talent, I think we could produce the best group of physical, athletic players in the world. Kinda like all our style in other sports, Basketball (European athletes are more technical, while we play more physically).

What Sack said. Excepting for the part about supporting the Baggies. (Ewwww. )

Shrug, I guess I can see WHY they did it but I would have to think that there had to have been a better and, more importantly, CLASSIER way to do it. I doubt I'll be spending money to support them any time soon*.

And, yes, I am quite sure they will survive and do quite well with or without my support.

* Yes, I am local. But I am neither a homer (supporting a team just because they are local to me) nor an anti-homer. If I support a team, it will be because I like and/or admire them.

BTW - no Donovan for the Real game unless the US gets knocked out of the Gold Cup early.

No Donovan period, the game is Saturday, and the US-Jamaica QF is Saturday.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Galaxy actually won that game...Real will be playing mostly for show, and it's only a pre-season game for 'em, so...

I may have to Tivo it. Sounds like a game that could be interesting for a while, but get boring real quick if neither side is too into it.

Dola - Odd, my TIVO guide lists it as being live on Monday Night at 9:30 PM Central time? That certainly doesn't seem right.

Ok, that is consistent with what I'm seeing as well. In any case, it is set to be TIVO'd
