Orange Alert?

I "walked" passed our public transportation transfer station earlier this afternoon. While the actual risk is real small here in bucolic Burlington, there still is a risk. So what was the situation there?

No cops. (You would think they would park someone there for perception.)

No bus customer service. (In the middle of an afternoon.)

Only the drivers on the bus.

That really bothered me, I'm sure it's an overreaction, but at least the effort should be made for those who ride the busses to feel safe.

I didn't notice much of a difference other than my commute lengthened by a police investigation at 110th St.

With targets such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington D. C., I don't thinkg the bus station in Burlington, Vermont rates very high on a terrorists wish list. No offense intended to those proud to call Burlington home.

I do realize that the chance of attack here is 99999 out 100000 in never happening.

Pulling a cop to sit today or tomorrow just would make good PR.

So if the armored humvee's pull up on the streets of Burlington, and hundreds of men jump out wearing camouflage and carrying M-16's you might feel uneasy?

Well if it makes you feel any better, homeland security funds were a bonanza for the police forces of small-town America, at the expense of urban centers. Bringing home the pork at it's best...

I think I took that train out of Morningside Hts when I was drunk once. Usually, I'd take the 1/9 (this was years ago)...

Watching the Federal Building roof get swept for explosives on 9/11 made me feel uneasy, I'm a block away. Watching them sweep the Social Security building the next day scared me, it's my next door neighbor.

In no way am I suggesting that ANY resource should be yanked out of the big cities.

Seeing humvees and M-16's would certainly shake up the hippies, that's for sure. I just don't like the attitude, up here ,that it can't happen here.

I guess the rural part of me is coming out.

I'm sorry Jeebs, but we aren't interested in Price's milk. We'll leave that for the strippers in Florida who order room service the morning after.

Heh, it's just a coincidence that El Paso's main dairy is named Price's. It has nothing to do with CMP...

It's supposed to taste like a Dreamsicle or Orange Julius. I think it might actually be decent...

Have you built a bomb shelter yet?

Kinda funny/sad story... A friend of mine told me about how he used to play with a friend in his friend's father's bomb shelter when they were kids. The father recently died in a freak explosion inside the bomb shelter. Sweet irony!

Isn't it possible that terrorists could strike smaller cities like Burlington? I remember after 9/11, there was talk that terrorists might turn to less secure smaller cities and rural towns.

Actually, I would think, if you want to put a panic into the entire country, you would start by bombing shopping malls or something similar in smaller towns/suburban areas.
