FOF - Early Selection Effect?

Has there been any discussion of whether or not there is any kind of effect in FOF2K4 if, when you have the overall #1 draft pick, you select the player during Free Agency rather than waiting to click onwards to the actual Amateur Draft?

I'm wondering because in my current career (year 31 with the Las Vegas Lightning) I have the overall #1 and the best player is a QB rated at 56/93, 8.7 / 1.000. Part of me is tempted to draft him waaaay ahead of time to show how happy we are he'll be joining the team, but I can't quite convince myself that there's actually any effect. Any thoughts?

When you have the overall #1, you have the option (when viewing the Draft Preview) to go ahead and make your selection when Free Agency begins. After Free Agency, you click the button to go on to the Amateur Draft. I'm wondering if there's any difference between selecting early or selecting as usual.

Hmm. I did not know you could do that. I learn something about this game everyday (blame the help file on that). Although I admit I have never had the first overall pick.

Just taking a wild stab. I can't see why there would be any effect. But who the hell knows?

Maybe it gives you a chance to try to sign him before the draft (basically a free attempt at trying to sign him before camp). Run a quick SP career and check it out.

(Sorry, that was mean, but I could not resist).

EDIT--I guess it was really mean because now I see that you are banned and cannot respond. Oh well.

I didn't know that either. I'm interested to see what happens when you select him early.

I don't think it really does anything. I had the top two picks once, and made both selections before the actual draft with nothing extraordinary happening. If I remember right, you're not even gaining an extra negotiating round or anything. But it'd still be a cool thing to suspend reality about and pretend it mattered.
