Thumbs up Art Appreciation

I'm taking an art appreciation class this summer to satisfy my humanities/arts requirements. I've just gotten home from my first class and it seemed pretty cool. The teacher really wants us to be able to appreciate artwork of all eras and type. Im really looking forward to the rest of the summer semester (till July 5), and updates on how I'm doing.

Funny...I'm teaching the same class this summer (over here, though, unless you're in SC for some reason ).

I guess a lucrative future as an Art History major is out the window.

What kind of liberal tree hugger school is this that makes you take an art appreciation class? You couldn't pick the class where naked chicks pose for you?

That would be true art appreciation.

Art Appreciation always struck me as a funny name.

How about Math Appreciation.

Sculpting wasn't available this summer but to compensate for that we will be watching an early 20th century French Porn movie.
Oh and I go to UNLV, also known as The Miami U. if the west.

While you caught my attention with the Porn word, the early 20th century part of it turns me off.

To me, the definition of good art is much like the term used by a Supreme Court justice to describe porn: "I'll know it when I see it."

One thing I did like about London, was that almost all of the museums were free. I finally got to see in person many pieces of art that I had only seen in books or on the Web before. Modern art never really did anything for me, but seeing a lot of it in the same place at the Tate Modern helped me to gain a little better appreciation for the genre.

Italy was another eye opener as well. You can absolutely hate art, but seeing "The Last Supper", "David", and the Sistine Chapel are things everyone should see at least once in their lives.

The funny this that I found out was that Las Vegas actually has a flourishing Art district in a seedy part of town and that there's a Hermitage museum in town somewhere. Didnt know that till yesterday. I knew about the Guggenheim but not the Hermitage.

I'm not big on art, but this is one piece that I've always appreciated for some unknown reason.

The School of Athens by Raphael

The two guys in the center are Aristotle and Plato.

Bill and Ted were unavailable for photos that day. I believe they were hungover from a Wild Stallions concert.

I hereby object to this statement as purely fictional. You must mean the poor cousin in the south, the one that breeds felonious football players.

If they have to teach you how to appreciate the art, was it really art in the first place?

My bad! Yes I mean the southern Miami U. We have a worse record of felonious athletes than they do but less notorioty with the media.
