Tilt: Any takers?
This is ESPN's dramatic take on the world of poker. The first episode is next Thursday. You've probably seen previews of it if you've watched any of the ESPN family in the past three months. It promises to do for poker and Las Vegas what "Playmakers" did for professional football. This is probably not a good thing... but what do I know?

I'm going to watch, but if Norman Chad has a significant role it could be a deal breaker

An honest man. My one annoyance is that I'm sure ESPN will completely play into the image of poker players as degenerate cheating gamblers. And from the 2 minutes of 'preview' footage I saw, the story revolves around one player having been cheated by another. My gut feeling is that the show won't be good for the public perception of the poker player. |

It looks very bad but I guess the ads work since I can't get that backround music out of my head.
And the quote stuck with me. "If we are going to hurt him in a cash game you have to get out of the kiddie pool and start making moves." It's a stupid quote but I remember it. Anyway the show will suck more than getting teabagged by Shorty.

But it will draw a lot of new fish to the online poker tables.

I agree it will draw fish which is a good thing.
I feel bad for Micheal Madsen though. And it just looks like every possible extreme in the world of poker being portrayed as if its an everyday thing, exactly like Playmakers and football. I may watch just for the UIC. |

I will probably watch the first episode but fully expect to become highly annoyed at it like I did with playmakers and avoid it like the plague for the rest of the series.

Bumping this to get some last-minute votes and perhaps get some opinions on the first eppie.
I'm ashamed to admit that I was really bored and watched about 10 minutes of the preview. It's still not my thing. |

Despite the mighty power of advertising that bombarded me with approximately 3,167 ads telling my to watch Tilt during the Capitol One College Bowl week (the very same power that swayed my opinion of Jennifer Garnern), I still wont watch. Not a huge poker fan, Rounders was enough, I like ESPN to show more sports.

If I'm home and I remember, I'll probably end up turning it on.
Back when this show was announced, I thought I remembered it being billed as "what these fictional poker players do on their way to playing in the WSOP." The commercials haven't given any indication of this...was I wrong in thinking that? |

I would be all over it, but I have to go to the airport tonight to pick up MIL. Besides that, wifey likes to watch CSI Thurs at 9. If they do the same thing they did with Playmakers (show the previous week's episode right before the current week's every week) I will watch. Otherwise I will have to miss it.

Have you ever seen the movie "Shade" that came out a few years back in limited release. Actually had a good cast, (Byrne, Stallone, Fox, etc) but this Tilt movie on ESPN is an exact copy of it.

I think it isn't a real depiction of Poker players. Like in the one scene how the guy doesn't look at his cards yet bets big and wins.. that's retarded, that's called being a horrible player who got lucky no one called his bluff. And let's not mention the guy who dives over the Poker table to tackle an opposing player...right.
I'll still try to catch it though. |

Actually Doyle Brunson is famous for playing "in the dark". One thing they have going for them is that they had in many pros to consult on the action. Negrano I think makes a cameo in the first one. It will still suck though.

well, this show still sucks. ESPN is showing promos for the season finale nonstop. Too bad it can't be the series finale.

I was going to say "YES!" to TILT until I saw the "L." The "L" ruins the whole word.
(Besides, shouldn't TILT be a tv show about playing pinball?)

I watched one episode the other day and concluded it probably depicted pro poker about as realistically as that other show ESPN had depicted pro football.
According to TILT all the pros are working scams to cheat in the big tournaments. And I saw zero depiction of the big money games the pros play more often that the tournaments. From what I understand that's where things really get interesting. They could have focused on stuff like that and made the show much more interesting rather than making it into a giant scam-athon.
