Maximum Football adding more features?

According to David Winters (MF dev.) there will be. David has said that he is implementing a training camp and retirement system to the game. Although no career mode is being added, that is something that may be added after release. However, a career mode utility is in the works.

Quote:
A training camp mode is something I'm currently adding to the game. Matrix had given me some time before release (expected Super Bowl week) so I've added a few extra items. A training camp system is one of them. Training camp will also retire players.

David gives more info on the new game features;
Quote:
(stat_guy @ Jan 7 2005, 08:01 PM)
I recently read that you are adding a training camp system. This will also retire players. David, does this mean that there is an aging process now (players get older) and on what factors will players retire (i.e. career ending injuires, age, ect.)?

Davids' response;
Quote:
Yes, players now age and retire. Number of seasons played, and injuries are currently the only items that are taken into account for "retirements". Age effects the physical SA's of players (SPD, STR, etc...)

To begin a new season you'll be asked to do the following in the order of.

- Create New Season (schedule generated, players retire, new ones added to FA listing). Once you have started playing the season you can't add or remove teams.

- Complete league draft.

- Run Training Camp to hone player skills.

- Teams must be at league required roster sizes before playing a league game.

- Injured players are listed on the team roster, but not counted toward the active roster.

- Quick play games have no impact whatsoever on any of this and the only thing it checks for is the correct active roster size.

There are a couple of other things too but I'm in the process of working all that out.

A good chunk of this is already working and that's really all I have the time to do. I can't give any more details until the game is released as things are subject to change
.

I'm looking forward to placing the goal post in the front of the endzone and running guys into it.

QS is often correct, but just not in this thread.

Unless you mean that he is correct when he said "All these name-shifters give me fits."

I guess that would be correct, but probably not in the literal sense. Although he may be having fits now, who knows?

David responded to a post at the MF forums so I added (in the original post) some more info about the new features.

I'm reading the forums over there, and this thread, and i'm confused. Has he added career play to the game?

Yes, the release delay is a direct result of David adding career play.

Well Maximus/Vulcan,

Let's hope you are finally correct about a Football Sim Game.

You said FOF sucked and TPF rocked...so that makes you 0-2.

The development of this game reminds me of the good old days of Black Ice Hockey.

Sounds like the game should be up to par with Football Pro '96 in a few years. Good for them.

This is just me, but I would gladly settle for a good, updated version of Football Pro '96. I think that's what alot of folks have been saying. The fact that someone has finally decided to put one out is fantastic and David Winter deserves alot of credit for doing it. I personally think that the flexibility of this game is going to be what drives it forward.

Bubba, either you missed sovereignstar's jab or you just chose not to acknowledge it, but I'm afraid that I agree with him right now. This game has been in development for how long now? I know that it can take a long time to get a game finished, and I don't think David should rush it, but we've been hearing about this for years now, and all we've gotten so far are promises and a little hype.

ice4277 is right. This really is starting to look like Black Ice Hockey.

My take on it is this. Even if the game is crap, it'll be open crap, and if enough programers take to it, it can turn into something worthwhile.

Pumpy, game was finished and ready for distribution, but the outcry for career play became so big the delay was caused. I'm giving the game the benefit of the doubt, in that David Winter says it IS finished, career play is being added and tested. Easter is the target date. If that date passes or I see any other delay-causing reasons on the Max Football forums then I will become skeptical.

Chain of events becomes important here. Max Football was near completion. Matrix Games picked up the game for distribution. Career play somehow became the big issue and so hence the delay. Unless David is lying this is basically a finished product in final testing.
