DO NOT USE BRINKSTER TO HOST YOUR SITE

ever since weve moved there (usfl-fof.com) we have had nothing but intermittent errors and instability. I told them if they couldnt get stable that we would move and I would let everyone know....well....

DO NOT USE BRINKSTER TO HOST ANY SITE.

IF YOU USE BRINKSTER YOU DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK.

ALL THEY HAVE ARE CONSISTENT EXCUSES AS TO WHY IT DOESNT WORK...ONE MINUTE IT DOES, THE NEXT IT DOESNT. TOO INCONSISTENT TO BE CONSIDERED A GOOD HOST. DONT USE BRINKSTER.

SAY NO TO BRINKSTER.COM

I will keep everyone up to date with theit progress and perhaps in the end Ill be praising them but as of now it is what it is.

9.95 . mo. and im working on it....I have a comcast site that I can put us on in the meantime but im considering hiring someone to create a site. One of our owners made the site 10 times, make that 1000 times better than the original but he started school and the school he's going to is crazy intensive so he's obviously had to put us ont he back burner which i totally understand. Anyways, im thinking im going to host it on the comcast site temporarily as a backup to the brinkster. Ill continue to use brinkster when its working but im on the move, look out.

The WigBL was on Brinkster for a long time. Then i believe they had a lot of problems with the server late last year and ended up moving to another provider.

Ahhh.....I think it's the fact you are using the technologies they are the least about.

Brinksters main focus is the M$ technologies, I know that much....anyways...

I use http://www.allin1websolutions.com/ and they have great support, and the owner, runs several online OOTP leagues.

I signed up with 1&1 when they launched in the US. I've still got a year and a half left on the free offer...

He has barely been online lately and he takes a while to answer emails and questions in the forums. He's a nice guy, but I don't what's going on.

Another good one is Dreamhost (www.dreamhost.com). They have like 2.4 gigs and unlimited MYSQL for 9.99 or something. One caveat though is if you are transferring databases, they have a limit to prevent you from running huge queries. The dude walked me through using a UNIX shell to upload my BOSI database (>50MB).

I have been looking @ 1&1 for getting some of my websites up and learning how to do other things.

I would like to learn how to use MySQL, so I guess the starter package would have to be the $9.99 deal to get that.

Has anybody heard anything BAD about 1&1? All I seem to hear are good stories...which is good, of course.

They are huge in Europe, they've been running hosting services there for over 10 years. So they knew how to run things once they decided to open up their US operations.

I met with their CEO and CIO in Germany, when the company I work for was trying to sell them some of our stuff. They are a great company, and if you decide to go with them, I think you will have a great experience.

I just signed up with 1@1. Other than an issue with PM notification e-mails that go out from my forum being classified as SPAM by some ISPs (probably AOL), I've really liked them so far. They threatened me about the e-mails when they got complaints. Hopefully, it's corrected now, but I'm still waiting to hear back. That taking several days has squelched my enthusiasm for them a bit though.

I wanted to bump this because I'm having some issues with 1and1.com and am finding their support to be terrible. Granted, it's limited experience thus far, but that's my early impression.

I didnt like 1 and 1. To get sql you gotta pay 10 bucks, which is a lot. And then its nearly impossible to cancel their service if you dont like it.

For instance, i got a 6 month web package for an online league that folded. So i try to email support to cancel the package, no luck. No links to do this shit anywhere. I was gonna keep it, but then i saw how much the fucking MySQL starter package was.....10 bucks a month(Which is a lot IMO) I call and the asshole customer service guy wants me to mail him some letter form stating i want to cancel the service, which i cant fax for some reason. I'm like, this isnt a buisness site, its a goddamn sports league site. Granted 37 cents is nothing for a stamp, but i just wanted the whole package to be done. So I got the whole form together, but i was looking and realized that i had gotten a new Visa card from my bank. So since i thought the fuckers couldnt charge me anyways, i called him back and told him that i wanted my package cancelled, and that they werent gonna be able to charge my visa anymore anyways, since it was an old card that wasnt active. He starts into the whole we cant cancel you like that, blah blah, shit, I was like, "dude, i just want the site cancelled, get it done." And then i hung up. Well about 2 months ago i get a fucking bill from the dickshits for service renewal, on the site i told them twice i didnt want to renew. Honestly I doubt i will pay it, unless they try to sue me and/or hang it on my credit report. I shouldnt have to go on a commando raid of a companies HQ to cancel my fucking account with them after i specifically tell them i dont want it anymore. I call you, i specifically request cancellation before my service is to be renewed, you should fucking cancel it for me. [/rant]

i like this plan and am going with these guys. lots of space, and one of their major selling points is Zero downtime. apparently they have a system which eliminates it. after experiencing the same problems Flasch has twice in two days (which can wreck havoc on a young, upstart fledgling league) i need a service that puts server stability at a premium.

2nd hand information from my commish (who i had to have a pow-wow with tonite after our forum has been down for the 2nd nite in the one week i've been with this soon-to-be-exhost) says this is operated by RendeR. whether that means he owns it outright or works for them or whatever i didn't ask. my assumption was if it was good enough to recommend to clients it had to have been a good service, plus the price was awesome.

NOTE: i'm sure RendeR is a great guy and perhaps i'm just an unlucky and webhostingbuzz.com is actually a great webhost. take my experience at face value. i'm not saying to not use this service, i'm just saying it's not right for me. your mileage may vary.

good luck with powweb.
I personally had a MISERABLE experience with them (their downtime wasn't the issue...but zero downtime is a myth). But other people like them, and, I guess, as long as you don't have to deal with any of the illiterates working in customer service, you'll be ok.

I should clear up a little mess in the thread. I misunderstood what Render meant when he said "they're my service". I've known Render to run his own reseller business, so I figured that he meant he was the operator behind webhostingbuzz. Apparently, he must use them for his reseller business and he also recommends them to his clients. I actually found out about the mistake soon thereafter, but you logged off HA. Sorry for the confusion and my apologies to Render - though webhostingbuzz did suck.

We (LEF) ended up going with allin1websolutions as I've used the service for around a year now and haven't had any noticeable downtime since June of last year. I've also noticed that their FTP service is lightning fast compared to some other hosts'.

this kills me cuz last night it was fine but today I get this response:

Hello,

We are currently not supporting Innodb due to an issue with mySQL. We
are looking into better ways for mySQL to handle this right now, but for
the meantime it is not supported on this server.

The tables that are affected by this have the extension "ibd". Again,
it is because we are not supporting Innodb, however, are looking at a
better way to handle this.

Thank you,

Eric

i don't get it - why are you such a glutton for punishment?

i experienced the same problems you did with webhostingbuzz.com and quickly ditched them - too much competition for me to settle with an unreliable service.

Yeah, unless you signed a 4-year deal with Brinkster, ditch them already. You're feeding the beast as it is.
