How do I fix my PC?
It keeps shutting off and making wierd sounds on me. Usually after about a half hour or so. I only get it to stop making the wierd sounds when I flip the on/off switch in the back of the case.
The computer is pretty brand new, maybe about 4-5 months old, what do I do?

Not much to go on there, but my guess would be a fan that's not running properly (odd noises) and letting something overheat (shutdown). But you'd need to figure out whether that's a fan on the power supply, processor, or video card.

I'd second JeffR's opinion that it's a fan. The easiest way to figure it out is to start it up with the cover off. You should be able to tell by the noise which fan it is.

Could be a lot of things, but I suspect a bad power supply.

I third the fan probability. Sounds like the CPU fan is dead or dying, and that will cause the processor to overheat, and most newer motherboards will shut down when the temp gets too high.
If it's still pretty new, contact the vendor and make them fix it. |

If you turn the radio up really loud, that sound should go away.

It sounds like the fan IN the powersupply.
Yes, they have fans in them. They usually are the first things to collect dust, they get in the bearings of the fan. Thus the loud noise. Then from there, the power supply overheats. |

Almost sounds like my Dell thats about the same age. It randomly shuts off and when I turn it on it sometimes just spins the fan up really really high and just sits there, nothing appears on the monitor.
Here's hoping the FOURTH motherboard (as well as the 3rd power supply, 2nd video card and 2nd fan) will do the trick! |
