You have to set up your PC/Laptop with a printer. Instead of picking an Espon Stylus (or whatever) pick "Print to File" and then when you print, just select that one.

If that's what you are inferring, anyhow.

Here are some instructions (credit to Masked for posting these elsewhere) :

Here you go. These are the instuctions for Windows XP Home, but it should work on any version of windows (although some steps might be unnecessary).

1) Go to the windows control panel.

2) Chose printers

3) Select add a printer

4) Select add a local printer

5) When asked what port to use, choose FILE: (Print to file)

6) Under manufacturer, select Generic

7) Under Printers, select Generic/Text Only

8) When you select Print in FOF (or any program), you will have to choose the text printer. When you hit print, you will have the option to type in a file name (good idea to specify a path too, sometimes the file can be hard to find).

9) Copy and paste the text into a thread, with the tags {code} {/code} before and after the text, replacing the {} with [].

Thanks a lot for that explanation. I've been trying to figure it out on my own for a good few hours, I should have known better to check at FOFC first!

XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Desktop\

should bring it to the desktop.

c:\Program Files\Solecismic Software\FOF\output\

For example that would create folders for you to put the files there. Simple stuff. End the line with the file you want it to be called.. so if you want it on your desktop

C:\Documents and Settings\YourName\Desktop\QBStats2003.txt

Remember to end it with .txt

Yeah. That worked. Thanks a lot Shorty. Basically like extracting in Winzip. I thought I had to put a default domain somewhere that I wasnt seeing.

Yeah, only unfortunately print to file does not remember your directory, so it isn't so easy to click-and-go. But, we make do.

I find the easiest thing to do is create a directory right off of the c: directory, so I don't have to type so much. I have a directory called c:/foftext/ that I use, precisely because of the issue that Shorty brought up about print-to-file not remembering the directory.

I'm doing this and for some reason using it is cutting off the first letter of everything. Anyone had this problem before? How do I fix it? I am using Windows 2000...

Had that problem for a long, long time on Win2000. I /think/ it went away on my change to XP, but not 100% sure that was what did it.

I had the truncation problem as well... my recollection is that it went away when I applied one of the Windows Service Packs -- so a wholesale system upgrade might not be necessary. It did definitely go away, though.

Just for those who have yet to figure out on how to "print to file". This will help out.

If you go to Start->Control Panel->Printers you should have a printer called Generic / Text Only. If you don't then go to Add a printer->Next->Local Printer->Use File Port->Manufacturer=Generic Printers=Generic/Text Only

Then when you print make sure to sleect the Generic/Text Only printer as your printer.
