My wife hated it. The ending was kind of different than what I had expected.. but yeah, it must have cost about $5,000 to make that movie.

of all the movies that came out this year, this one seems to be the most polarizing. It's gotten outstanding reviews, and the 4 people I've talked to that have seen it have either thought it was awesome or terrible.

I'll probably never see it, but i find the disparity interesting.

I really enjoyed it. It's simple but effective in my opinion, although I do think they should have done a little more with the ending. The subtlety was clearly what they were going for, but it was a little anticlimactic.

awful movie. a few creepy moments, but far outshadowed by the pervasive lameness. blair witch in the water if you ask me

I really enjoyed it, although I can see why people don't like it. It's really just 60 minutes of 2 people talking, and less. The writing isn't standout but it's solid, and the situation is creepy enough IMO that it's a solid time. I don't think it's anywhere near the best movies of the year or a 4 star movie, but it's very good.

Ok I guess I just didnt find it reaistic at all. it was stupid how they just sat there the whole and didnt try to swim to shore at all or anything. Then lets try to solve our marriage in the middle of the ocean.

I think the movie adaquetly deals with your first point, as for your other one, well thats personal opinion, not much i can say about that.

It was ok. I think the biggest backlash you're going to hear is directly related to the hype and hoopla surrounding the film.

Not that I'm complaining, but I felt the nude scene at the beginning was gratuitious as well.

I thought most of the stuff while they were stuck in the water was well done. However, everything else was less than film school quality. The stuff on the boat, in the hotel, etc All of it was atrocious. They should've just opened the film with them coming up and not finding the boat. We didn't need to know why the boat left them behind. They obviously didn't have the budget to handle anything else.

That's funny. I was just explaining to my wife that I thought it was gratuitous as well. I thought the nudity in the American Pie movies was more essential to the plot than the nudity in this movie. What purpose was there? Also, I didn't like it because in the first shot, Susan is clearly wearing panties. A few moments later in a different shot you can see her bush. Now, had she not been wearing panties in the first shot, we would've seen her vertical smile. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Oh, and I thought the movie was decent. Short, but decent.

i agree enitrely...usually nudity to me is good, in this it was if they wanted to garner the "art school" reputation for film festivals and such. I also thought it was less than or right at film school quality.

The only thing I could think from the actresses' point of view was this was part of "paying your dues" in order to get a role. It probably comes with the territory and you have to pay the bills...

Regarding the beginning - the boat scene and the bickering - it really had that tacked on look, like you're watching a porn film and just waiting for the retarded plot to finish up so they can cut to the chase.

What a steaming pile.

By about 20 minutes into the movie, I was already rooting for the sharks, and they hadn't even started the water scenes yet.

60 minutes?! Doesn't a film have to be at least 90 minutes to be called a movie?

Sorry to threadjack as I have no opinion of this movie, and don't intend to see it unless I happen to come accross it while chanell surfing on HBO.

It was only 82 minutes long. And it was all crap.

I agree worst movie I've seen in a long time. I really wish I saw this thread first. It wasn't scary, it was boring. The whole time I was rooting for the sharks to eat them.

********SPOILER**********

If both people die and the movie is "based on a true story" does that mean the whole movie other than them getting left in the ocean is made up? If that is the case why didn't the director spice it up a bit and make it less boring.

What he said.

I mean, they both die. In totally unspectacular fashion.

Now, if the chick had tossed her hubby to the sharks while he was still alive, THAT would have been cool. Sort of a "survival of the fittest, and I'd rather get out of here and go bang my co-worker anyway" thing.

Alas, it was not to be. It could have been done so much better.

Great, the woman just rented that yesterday and I have had no urge to see it, and she has been hounding me to watch it with her. Based on the reviews here, it seems like I will be wasting 82 minutes of my life. Is it really like (Forgot the name of the tom hanks movie) where Hanks is stranded on an Island? I fast forwarded the entire time he was alone there on the island after sitting through 5 minutes of it. SO boring. Is Open water like that?

No.

Cast Away was much, much better.

Open Water was low-budget, indie-film crap. It looked like it was filmed by one guy with a camcorder in a rubber raft floating around about 100 yards off the coast of Florida someplace.

except there's no nudity on Cast Away. the nudity in Open Water gives it a couple extra points.

and what's with you fags who cry about nudity being "gratuitous". man, you fucking homosexuals (not that there's anything wrong with being a homosexual). i'm disgusted in all of you. you don't deserve your nuts.

it was ok, it was scary. not every movie has to be Citizen Cane. it was mildly entertaining. the ending was realistic in that there's really no way a couple should survive a day and a half out in the ocean. my wife and i decided we would have tried to swim anyway instead of waiting to be eaten by sharks.

I thought the same thing, but I kind of liked the ending.

Technically, Wilson was nude.
