Judge arrests 18 people for following his orders
From the Orlando Sentinel
A group of people waiting for their court appearances on various traffic violations in Sanford, Fla., were arrested after the judge for their cases got tired of waiting for them to show up. As it happened, they had been told to wait in the wrong courtroom. Judge John R. Sloop ordered seven people arrested one day, and 11 the next, for doing what they were told. They were held for more than eight hours, including one man who was jailed for three days, even after the judge was told what happened. Chief Judge James Perry invalidated all 18 arrests, expunged the records, and relieved Judge Sloop from criminal case duty, assigning him instead to civil court duty.

"YOUR OUT OF ORDER, I'M OUT OF ORDER, WE'RE ALL OUT OF ORDER!" Does the judge spend alot of time sitting outside on his ledge? "And Justice for All." Al Pacino, Jack Warden...an oldie but a classic.

Seems like you could. Any damages resulting from it, such as lost wages, certainly would be owed to you. As to whether the governnment has been able to successfully shelter itself from being responsible for the wrongs it does to general citizens, you'd probably need an attorney to find out. There is a judicial precedence, I forget what it is, but basically, you can't sue the government, unless the government allows you to. Wacky, I know.

One of my friends had a warrant out on her because the state lost paperwork saying she had paid a parking ticket for $20. She produced the receipt, but they said she would have to pay $200 or go to jail for a day.

I'm picturing the Texx Cobb jail scene from Fletch Lives...
"Take off your pants." "What's your name?" "Bend over." "Ben? Nice to meet you."

She paid the $200 since she said her options were limited. She tried to contest, but they didn't do anything.

And so the cycle continues... I'm not saying she needed to go to jail, but a trip to the slammer (while first giving a trusted party the evidence), placing calls to news media, as well as some attorneys, might well have stopped that practice of stomping on the citizens. This kind of activity is not much different than paying 'protection money' to the mob. |

Judges like this one are supposed to be impeached. That's what impeachment is for, but the politicians have become to gutless to really protect its citizens.
