FM 2005 : Como un Rayo

Ok so I've decided to give dynasties a try but since english is not my native language, forgive me if I make some errors.

Anyway, this story is going to take place in Spain and the main protagonist will be the 3rd club of Madrid : The Rayo Vallecano.

The club is currently in Spanish Segunda B1 (there are 4 groups in 2da B) for only the second time in their history (last time was in 1983-1984) after finishing 21st in 2da in 2003-2004. Of course they want to come back to their old glory (which doesn't means anything since they've never been anything more than the 3rd club of Madrid behind the Real and the Atlético) with a return in Segunda.

My aim is to go back to Primera in 5 seasons.

First surprise for those who didn't know it : the chairman is in fact a...chairwoman.María Teresa Rivero is in charge of the club since her husband left the club in january of 1994.
She welcomed me saying I should ignore the media's claims that I'm to inexperienced for the job.She also expects the club to achieve promotion this season.

Team Info

Logo :
Mascot : known as Pica Pica

Stadium : Official name is Campo de fútbol de Vallecas Teresa Rivero, but everybody calls him Estadio de Vallecas. Capacity : 15,550

Anthem : 3 anthems could be considered, the official one, the one adopted by the fans (this one is on one album of the spanish band ska-p so there might be legal problems if you don't own the cd) , and another one from ska-p.

Finances

Balance : € 6,886,923
Transfer Budget : € 1,606,891
Sponsors : € 281,000 per season, ends in 2007
Total Wage Budget : € 275,000 per month
Current Wage Total : € 207,924 per month
Maximum salary allowed : €28,500 per month

So after the press conference I decided to meet the staff and the players.

Staff

Assistant Manager : Juan Carlos Mandía, 37 yrs old. He looks very talented and his ability to develop youngsters should really help.

Coaches : Damián Román, 52 yrs old and Victor Paredes, 37 yrs old. Both look very good with youngsters and outfielders but not with goalkeepers, so a Goalkeeping coach will be needed.

Physios : José Luis Vargas, 37 yrs old, Marcos Marín, 44 yrs old and Daniel González, 43 yrs old. Nothing special here.

Scouts : Javier Ruiz Mateos, 58 yrs old, Miguel Angel Morales, 38 yrs old and Joaquín Martínez, 58 yrs old. Mateos and Morales looked decent while Martínez will only be used to scout the next opponent.

Overall a decent staff, I'll probably try to hire another Assistant Manager, 3 or 4 coaches including a goalkeeping one and maybe one scout.

Goalkeepers

Dani Roiz 14 14 15 5 15 14 14 6 6 8 12
Carlos Sanavia 8 5 8 2 10 7 10 5 2 3 5
Sergio Segura 15 12 9 4 12 10 8 19 7 4 12

24 yrs old Dani Roiz looks like a solid starter, only thing worrying me about him is his low positioning, he should be good enough for this season. 26 yrs old Sergio Segura is the projected backup while 23 yrs old Carlos Sanavia as already been transfer listed by the club, I'll be looking for a young keeper shortly.

Defenders

Name Acc Ant Hea Jum Mar Pac Pos Sta Str Tac
Antonio Amores 14 8 6 10 3 15 9 11 9 6
Eduardo Cabezuelo 10 9 9 10 9 8 10 9 7 6
Carlos 9 13 13 9 13 10 7 11 10 10
Zuhaitz Gurrutxaga 9 11 12 8 12 11 12 11 13 8

Diego Maínz 12 10 12 12 8 11 18 10 14 8
Héctor Polo 9 8 1 10 7 8 8 9 11 6
Ricardo 16 14 9 13 4 17 7 18 11 12
Roberto Rojas 15 10 5 9 10 15 9 12 14 10

Left Fullback : Ricardo (29 yrs old) is the projected starter, his speed and crossing making him a good offensive wingback. Carlos (24 yrs old), who is more defensive minded should be his backup while Antonio Amores (19 yrs old) lacks talent and probably won't be used.

Central Defenders : Diego Maínz (21 yrs old), Zuhaitz Gurrutxaga (23 yrs old) and Juan Pedro (29 yrs old) will compete for the 2 starting spots, Maínz looks like the most talented of the 3. Andorean player Ildefons Lima (24 yrs old) who can also play on the right, should see some playing time at center. Héctor Polo (25 yrs old) is useless.

Right Fullback : Marío (23 yrs old) will share the starting spot with Lima and Roberto Rojas (29 yrs old). Eduardo Cabezuelo (23 yrs old) shouldn't see much playing time.

David Palacios 13 15 17 14 13 5 15 10 10 7
Iriney 12 9 14 9 10 13 14 12 13 9

Defensive Midfielder : Víctor Vía (25 yrs old) is the only defensive midfielder we have so far and he has already been transfer listed by the club. I'm going to look for 1 or 2 players at that position.

Left Midfielder : David Palacios (26 yrs old) will be the starter, I really his dribbling ability. Yuma (18 yrs old) lacks talent in my opinion, but since he is young he could improve.

Central Midfielders
: AMC Iriney (23 yrs old) is obviously the team's best midfielder but since he is Brazilian and non-EU players aren't allowed to play in Segunda B (at least in the game, not really sure it's the case IRL) he won't play for us this season (in the cup maybe) so I list him for loan. Else Borja (22 yrs old) looks decent but nothing more than a backup, Joni (23 yrs old) and Rubén (24 yrs old, already transfer listed) both look crappy.
I really need to improve here.

Right Midfielder : Miguel Albiol (22 yrs old) is on loan from Valencia(primera), he really looks good, he'll be the starter. Pablo Díaz (22 yrs old) lacks stamina, else he'd be a good starter, should see some playing time anyway.

Forwards

Name Cre Cro Dri Fre Fin Fir Fla Lon Off Pas
Geni 7 10 15 9 16 6 6 5 15 12
Álvaro Negredo 10 9 7 4 10 6 14 10 13 9

David Lago 7 7 9 8 14 7 5 15 4 9
Antonio Amaya 9 5 4 7 11 5 15 9 13 11

Francisco Jurado (28 yrs old) and Geni (24 yrs old) both look very good but the backups aren't that great, only David Lago (24 yrs old) should see some playing time. Álvaro Negredo (19 yrs old) and Rufino (18 yrs old) will go back to the junior team while Antonio Amaya (21 yrs old) is transfer listed. I'll be looking for another player.

So I'm here sitting at my desk just after being nominated having a discussion with my assistant Juan Carlos Mandía : "Look I really need to improve the team and the staff before the beginning of the season so you'll be in charge of the training and of the friendlies during the preseason. Now I have a few phone calls to make."

Everybody is assigned to the preseason schedule and the scouts are sent all around the world : Martínez to scout the next opponent, Morales 6 months in Central Europe and Mateos 6 months in Spain.

First task : the staff.

I'm looking for another assistant manager who could help me with the team, he could be in charge of the reserve team (which won't play any game this season) while Mandía would be in charge of the junior team. the only one I can find that I really like is also a player and a well known one : former world champion, French DMC Emmanuel Petit (33 yrs old, 63 caps/6 goals), I offer him this challenge, he will have at least a season to learn the coaching job and could still play in the meantime.

He wants 1 year at 26,500 € per month and a signing fee of 1,000€. I offer him 3 seasons, an assistant job for 20,000 € per month and a signing fee of 1,000 €.

for the GK coach job, I focus on former Uruguayan international (11 caps) Jorge Fernando Seré (43 yrs old), he wants 1 season at 2,400 € per month, I offer him this amount but a 4 yrs contract.

Other contacted coaches are : 36 yrs old Paraguayan Carlos Torres (6 caps), 45 yrs old Venezuelan Armando Peláez and former Uruguayan star, 34 yrs old Daniel Fonseca (28 caps/10 goals).

I've decided which tactic I'm going to use :

So that's why I need a DMC (maybe Petit), one or two AMC, and another forward.

For the AMC, Im showing some interest in Russian international (65 caps/13 goals) Alexander Mostovoi (35 yrs old), he is getting old but still has outstanding technical abilities. I offer him one year at 19,500 € per month as a first team member.

The other forward (and possible backup to Mostovoi) could be Holland International (9 caps/1 goal) Jordi Cruyff (30 yrs old), he wants a big contract of 33,000 € per season an a status of Key player for 2 seasons. I offer him 28,500 € per season for 2 seasons.

Córdoba made a €125,000 offer for DC Diego Maínz and Numancia is interested in him too, since he is a projected starter and the staff thinks he is showing signs of developing into a quality player, I reject both offers and set is transfer status to unavailable for transfer.

Torres and Seré accept the coaching offer.

Mostovoi and Petit agree on their contracts, that gives 2 (aging but still) top level players.

Cruyff receives offers from The Sporting de Gijón and Ciudad de Murcia both of segunda. I don't think I'll be able to land him.

Else in European news, Nevio Scala is the new Parma Manager.

The team played a friendly in Holland against the Sparta Rotterdam. They lost 2-0, this time the goalkeeper to shine was Dani Roiz with a rating of 8.

As expected Cruyff rejects our offer and signs with Salamanca.

Turkish Ilhan Mansiz would have been the best choice but he is out 4 months with strained knee ligaments so we make an offer to former spanish international (3 caps) Catanha (32 yrs old), he wants 2 years and €24,500 per month. We agree with him on that.

The team played a friendly against the Rayo Majadahonda losing 4-2, both goals were scored by Francisco Jurado who also earned the MOM award with a rating of 8. GK Dani Roiz looked awful with a rating of 5.

Catanha accepts my offer, he joins the team. The team is now pretty much set for the season, I'll be looking for another attacking midfielder but I'm not in a hurry.

Real Madrid loaned GK Jordi Codina to Vecindario.

In a friendly match we're receiving Salamanca today, the team that stole us Jordi Cruyff.
We loose that game 1-2 with Iriney scoring our only goal.

Today we had to release a list of the 22 players registered for the A team.

GK Carlos Sanavia, DC Hector Polo, DMC Víctor Vía, MC Rubén, MC Joni and SC Antonio Amaya didn't make that list, they are sent to the B team.

DL Antonio Amores joins strikers Alvaro Negredo and Rufino and will play with the junior team.

We've played a friendly at Beasain winning 5-2. Catanha score 2 goals and won the MOM award with an 8 rating. Mostovoi, Iriney and Lago also scored one goal each. The team looked good.

2 injuries after that game D RC Ildefons Lima is out 5 days with a shoulder injury and D/DM R Roberto Rojas is out 5 days with a bruised shin.

Las Palmas signs Paraguayan GK Rubén Ruíz Díaz, I don't know how they'll be able to play him with the no-EU players rule.

Leganés have signed 29 yrs old Spanish AM/F LC Robaina on free transfer

Haro, a 2da B2 club has made an offer of €1,000 + 40% on the next sale for Rubén. I accept the offer.

We've played our last friendly of the preseason at Eibar, loosing 2-0 with DR Ricardo being named MOM with an 8 rating.

Pájaras Playas signed 20 yrs old DC Robert Van Boxel from Holland, he looks like a good prospect.

Vecindario signed 40 yrs old D RC Francisco Rizzi from Venezuela.

Universidad de Las Palmas have signed a central defender, former Spanish international (21 caps) Paco (34 yrs old) who played for us last season.

Pájara Playas got 20 yrs old D/DM L José Antonio on loan from Getafe (btw just a note for those who don't know, loans are always for the season, you see 3 month loans just in Great-Britain)

Rubén accepts Haro offer so he knows leaves the club.

I receive another offer for Maínz, €147,000 from Recreativo Huelva, rejected once again

The draw for the first round of the Spanish Cup has been held today, we will go to Girona (2da B3).

As we're about to play our first league game against Vecindario, a national journalist asks me if I'm a bit nervous.
I admit I am but also very excited about being able to coach such a great club.

Starting lineup is :

GK : Dani Roiz
DR : Mario
DL : Ricardo
DC : Juan Pedro
DC : Diego Maínz
DMC : Emmanuel Petit
MR : Miguel Albiol
ML : David Palacios
AMC : Alexander Mostovoi
FC : Catanha
FC : Francisco Jurado

Substitutes are : GK Sergio Segura, DC Zuhaitz Gurrutxaga, MR Pablo Díaz, FC Geni and D/DM R Roberto Rojas.

and now the kickoff...

Next match is against the Atlético de Madrid B, my scout believes this team is exceptional but that the aerial ability of their strikers won't be a problem. They lost their first game 2-0 at Arteixo despite a good performance Senegalese DMC Lima.

Only change I make in the lineup is Lima replacing Gurrutxaga as a substitute.

Javier Ruiz Mateos thinks Gramenet FC Aáron would be a decent acquisition for the club, I ask him to make a full report about this player.

Today we play at home against Pájara Playas, a determined team according to our scout but it's forward seems to lack of speed.

DR : Mario
DL : Ricardo
DC : Zuhaitz Gurrutxaga
DC : Diego Maínz
DMC : Emmanuel Petit
MR : Miguel Albiol
ML : David Palacios

FC : Catanha
FC : Francisco Jurado

Substitutes are : GK Sergio Segura, DRC Ildefons Lima, MR Pablo Díaz, FC Geni and D/DM R Roberto Rojas.

Carlos as resumed training, the specialist who treated him is optimistic that he has recovered fully from his injury. His addition will be welcomed since Palacios is often very tired at the end of matches.

Today we face Fuenlabrada, Martínez thinks they suck but that their attack is strong and quick.

With Petit out, Juan Pedro will be the starting DMC.
