Cool OT: So I'm a jackass, sue me. (Question)

I'm a dumbass and I don't know what I'm doing, but I have some digital camera pictures that I'd like to share with friends, unfortunatley they are 8,000,000,000 x 10,000,000 in size and way too huge to send in an e-mail or otherwise. Another unfortunate is the fact that I don't own any $500 paintshop programs, just the stock "paint" that comes with Windows XP Crap Edition, any ideas on how I can fix this?

Did your digital camera come with any software? Many do.

Wow, 8 billion by 10 million. That's an odd aspect ratio. Anyway, http://www.irfanview.com has some software that'll resize the images for you.

It did, but I lost it anyway it was grade "A" crap that was just a pretty way to upload the huge images. Thanks Pumpy, I'll check that site out.

Windows XP Image Resizer (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx) will also work.

Download the trial of Jasc Photo Album -- it's a free trial, and if you like it it's only $45 to buy.

http://www.jasc.com/products/photoalbum/

We recently bought the company and got to see a demo of the product. It really is amazing, wish I'd known about it when I got my camera.

I did not know that.
(that you work for Corel, and that they bought Jasc).

But it doesn't really compress files well from my experience. If you saved images as anything but bitmaps they tend to look really, really bad in Paint.

Yeah, just open up the file in paint, select "stretch / skew" from the "Image" tab, pick the same value under 100% for both horizontal and vertical stretch, and resave (as a JPG if it's not already). A 50% reduction in height and width makes the file size much smaller.

edit: in response to the above post, my images seem to look fine after using paint

Yes and yes. But please do not start sending me your tech support questions about WordPerfect 3.

I've always loved JASC and PSP. I participated in their PSP 6 and 7 betas and they are the most responsive and helpful people in that process. People would come up with bugs or suggestions and they would be fixed or implemented the very next day.

Another "cheat" for resizing that should work is one that I've used occasionally for years.

1) D/L Netscape Composer (the html editor that comes with full versions of Netscape)
2) Insert the image(s) you want to send into a blank webpage.
3) Re-size the images to something manageable (I think the command is "constrain") & then save the page (IIRC, you also need to make sure you check something about "saving the image" instead of leaving them in their original locations.
4) You should have a finished .html page with the associated & resized images included. Then just upload the page & images once to your webspace and then send folks a link to that instead of all the multiple .jpg files.

*Yes, I'm working from the sometimes-mistaken theory that a lot of the online residents have some webspace lying around ready to use. If not, then this kinda sucks.
