Number of Playoff Teams-NFL

Reading the Boston Globe this Sunday, it said that the Patriots were going to submit a proposal at the owners meeting in March to expand the playoffs to 14 teams. Do you agree/disagree with this? Is another wild card necessary when you have so many guaranteed spots?

No, it's not. It's overkill, imo. The season has to count for something. In fact, adding another wildcard team...how would that effect the playoffs?

No need to water down the playoff field. Stay at 12.

Sabotai - It was only a little line in one of the notes sections, didn't go into detail. I would assume that then only 1 team in each conference would get a bye.

why not go world cup style and have all the teams in? do group play in the first round and have each team play 2 games a week

I love how the NFL has it set up, it adds so much pressure to the final games. You also don't want the playoffs to drag on for to long.

They do group play. It's called the regular season. You wouldn't happen to be a Bengals fan just trying to find a way to get them into the playoffs?

If everyone gets in, why even bother with a regular season?

6 teams getting Playoff births out of 16 makes it a ratio of 0.375 against 0.437 if there are 7 qualifiers in a conference.

Basically I wouldn't be "against" a 7th team but 6 is fine too : it's elitist and that makes the run-for-the-playoffs quite a race to watch.
