Kobe's streak ends

He only had 32 tonight. This is probably the best thing to happen to the Lakers. Now they can focus on their playoff run.

I do not follow the NBA, but I was bombarded with Kobe's run on Sportscenter. I have to say no matter if you like Kobe, the lakers or the NBA, or not, you have to admit, it was really amazing to score 40 points that many times in a row.

Like many of those kinds of streaks anymore at the end it was getting to be a chore. He was shooting from anywhere just to try to get to 40. I think I saw him take a couple shots from the bench while he was out of a game at one point .

You make it sound like his accomplishment is a common occurence. Yes, in the final game of the streak his teammates were giving him the ball and the everyone was telling him to shoot. In the 9 games the Lakers went 7-2. Its not like he was disrupting the team.

What I was getting at is comparing it to the Ripken streak. That streak had meant something early. But it soon took on a life of it's own and everything was more about the streak than anything else.

It got that way with this streak at the very end. It was a great streak when it was more about playing. It didn't start to get forced until right after the big deal was made out of the streak. Then suddenly he was getting forced the ball and taking bad shots just to attempt to get the numbers.

These kind of streak are really meaningless. so what if he got 39 instead of 40 one of those nights. All that makes it is still a great run. What it doesn't do is bring out the attention and put that number out there that suddenly there is a need to get to. The best thing for him is for the streak to be broken.
