gmail - invites ?

How can you send invites to other people for gmail accounts ? I have been invited by someone from this board to a gmail account, but I don't know how to send invites. Do you need to "earn" them before being able to send them ?

Yes, you have to "earn" them... after some undetermined amount of time (general only a few days or less) you will get invites.

Well, I have had my gmail account (unused so far) for 2 to 3 months and haven't had an invite yet. Maybe, it's due to the lack of activity of my account.

I got a gmail account and ignored it for a month. When I signed on, I had 6 invites. I don't think that it is activity.

Based on what I've seen and read, the awarding of invites is (was) completely random. I only ever got one.

That said, I've also heard from various sources that they're not giving them out anymore. Not sure if that has anything to do with the "quiet period" before their IPO or if the timing is just coincidental, but I don't know of anyone who's received any invites in quite some time.
