Starship Tycoon

Just realeased, starship tycoon puts you in charge of an interplanetary shipping company, you compete against AI controlled firms to survive in the cutthroat world of space commerce. Configure and upgrade your starships, hire and hire the crew, smuggle illegal goods, and wage price wars against your competitors.

That is cut right from the web site. There is a demo available that I have downloaded and I am pretty far into the tutorial. My initial thoughts are that it seems like a mix of Capitalism II (the business side) and Galactic Civilizations (the look).

It looks like the game costs $24.99 and is downloadable (possibly download only) and the graphics are not DOOM 3, but they are crisp and clean. If you have played Galactic Civ, I would say they are far better than that.

Anyone have this and what are you thoughts on it?

It CTDs after 3 or 4 trips every time. I posted the debug log at the forum, hopefully someone can tell me what's wrong, or fix it if it's a bug.

That isn't good. Even when you play the tutorial? I have run about have way through the tut and it was fine.

I got the same result (CTD) in my game, and I did run the tutorial. I do like the game's potential. It has a lot of cool stuff going on.

WSU... you didn't crash during the tut, just during actual play?

This game is pretty sweet. So far no CTD but we'll see.

Correct - I believe it was on the 4th trip.

From the forum:

Thanks for the information. This bug has now been fixed (as have some others) and a new version has been uploaded to our server here:

Other download links might not be updated yet.

Dammit all to hell, Bonegavel, I hate it when people post about a game and it prompts me to immediately get out my credit card.

at this point, I only have the demo (downloaded the newest exe) and I'm getting some odd behaviour. It seems that when I click on the graph button, I get strange "windows" that won't go away. When I call them windows, they appear as the outter frames of windows, but look like garbled whatnot and they won't go away. I click out to the main menu and resume and they are still there. Very strange.

Yep, I've had that one, too.

I'll keep looking. The only thing I recall exactly was that DirectX 7 was a minimum.

From the readme, "This game requires Directx7 or later, 64 MB RAM, 16 MB Video card, 400 MHZ processor or better."

The updated download link here is more recent than the one I got from the original post.

Can we get some reviews from the game now?

And , now this from gamezone???

None of this makes since. The Aug 2004 release date, the developer, the publisher.
