Radeon 9000 Pro 128mb

Anyone have this card? and if so, how do you like it?

I have a GeForce4 440 64mb card in my pc and I think I am ready to upgrade. Seems like ATI is leading the video card scene and the 9000 is a nice buy.

Unless you plan on going with the Radeon 9700, stick with GeForce.

The Radeon 9700 is the "leader" of the graphics card industry. Radeon 9700 beats GeForce 4600. But the near top cards (like the GeForce 4400 and 4200) still out-perform the near the top Radeons (9000 and 8500).

IMO, the best bang for your buck is the GeForce Ti 4200 128MB. Let me see if I can find some benchmarks on the GeForce 4200 vs. Radeon 9000.

EDIT: Ok, here it is. The Radeon 9000's performance is comparible with the GeForce4 MX line. IOW, the GeForce Ti line outperforms the 9000. So that means the GeForce4 Ti would still outperform the 9000.

I still say that the GeForce4 Ti 4200 is the best card to get for the price.

I'm not sure ATI has caught up with NVidia on the software end of things either (i.e. drivers).

I've always been a Nvidia guy, but I thought I read where ATI 9000 series beats Nvidia hands down. If not, I would go with a Ti 4200 card.

I was an nVidia guy up until the 9700 Pro was released. This card is awesome. Early tests show it to be even with (and even better in some circumstances) the new nVidia product that is about to be released.

I agree with sabotai, if you are not going with the 9700 PRO (pro is important) stick with the high end nVidia -- 4600 Ti?

The main difference between nVidia and ATI is driver support. nVidia drivers have always been superior. But, the 9700 PRO is so good it, I can forgive this. For now.

I recently got a GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X and it works great. There are problems with ATI drivers from time to time although the latest patch seems to fix a bunch of them. Still, I'd go with nvidia (which obviously is what I did). And there's no way the 9700 Pro will outperform the new nvidia cards.

I found a PNY Verto GeForce 4 Ti4200 64mb card at Comp USA for $99!

Everywhere else it's $169.99. Even on price watch it's going for $108.

Off to Best Buy to see if they will match it.

This is coming from a diehard nVidia fanboy (me): the 9700 PRO has been out for eons now (in video card ages) and the newest GeForce is, at best, only marginally better. In addition, the nVidia sucks up 2 slots (not a big deal these days) and requires 2/3 of the daily electrical needs of New York City to run. The lateness of this release should have produced a card that is 30-40% above the performance of the last generation of the competitors and it isn't.

I know nVidia will weather this (like intel did with AMD), but for now, the ATI card is the way to go for Price and Performance.

Tell me about it. I just had to buy a 430 Watt power supply because my GeForce4 Ti 4200 was sucking up too much power.

Which is why everyone was shicked when the 9700 PRO was released and beat out GeForce.
