Texas Hold'em in my Living Room...(How To)

Thanks to Celebrity Poker Showdown, my wife wants to host a poker night. I have a basic understanding of the game (I've seen the "real" World Series of Poker, not just the Celeb show), but I'm no expert (still trying to figure out the blinds, and the order of raising/calls/checks).

Basically, looking for recommendations for blinds/betting setup for a small friendly game at home. Emphasis on FRIENDLY (3 couples, all beginners, all basically non-gamblers). I'm not even convinced I'll be able to get them to play for real money at all, but, if we did, it would be a pretty nominal amount ($20 max).

The blinds aren't important, as long as everyone has the same amount of chips. You can have the chips represent $1000 for the $10 or $20 they put in, on the basis of $25/$50/$100 chips (for easy math purposes).

On that, the blinds would be $25/$50.

Also, make sure they have a hand chart with them (so they can see what they have, and what beats what). The last thing you want to do is have discussions on every hand as to what beats what.

I've been doing this for a while now. I've played dealer's choice poker games pretty much forever, but started the hold 'em tourney thing around 6 months ago.

Some of the most fun I've had with a group of guys. I'm sure you'll have a good time.

Thanks for that link, ABC. I hadn't seen that yet.

You're all welcome.

All we play now are Hold'em tourneys, any size from six to 30 players. It's always a blast to play.

DD,

FYI: if you play online at all, there are some great promotions through pokersourceonline.com for free chipsets when you join a site and play a set number of raked hands.

I've done two different promotions through them (WPT DVD set and free chipset), and pokersource was very quick, friendly, and responsive. A completely pleasurable experience and great deal overall.

I figured if do play online, you might find doing one of those promotions a pretty cost-effective way to get a chipset that would suit your needs quite well.

What are the chances of a promotion that gives away the video with naked Shana Hiatt? Actually, I've seen the video already. Good stuff.
