Post VC II 2037

2037 Season

Herb says 100/100/100/74 : 98

7 Bowls in 9 years.

CB Barry Peterman steps down, saving us some cap room.

First impressions going into this season...our QB in waiting, Antoine Parrish, aint too happy. Since he's a keeper Im going to have to play him back to disgruntled and sign him to a long-term deal.

Our cohesion is among the best in the league in most areas.

We go into FA OVER the cap by 3.5 million, so I will be wheelin and dealin...everyone but Ainsworth and T Nuclear Bradford are signed.

In a cost-cutting move we send DT Geoff Freitag, LB OJ Briggs and WR Dana Lyon to Kansas City for LB Renaldo Freitag (best young LB in league) and the 3rd overall pick in the draft.

We then trade our first round pick (36) this year, plus DE Riley and DE Grembowski to the Las Vegas Hitmen for last year's number one overall pick, DE John Jacoby.

We send backup QB Foley, backup LB Henry, a 1st (30) and 2nd (36) to Jacksonville for all-pro LB Todd Bellamy and their #1 (10) pick in the draft.

We send P Joey England and a 3rd round pick (36) to Tennessee for the best P in the league, Wade Rogers.

Finally we send backupCB Ray Head and a 1 (18), 4 (36), and 5 (36) to Detroit for the 4th pick in the draft. We go into FA 51 million under the cap.

Nuclear Nick Bradford won't resign with us because of complaints about playing time.

No one else looks affordable so we move on to the draft.

Draft

1(3) Lonnie Watson, S, Georgia (96, 100, 96,x,x, 100)
1(4) Will Norton, S, BYU, (96, 97, 100, x, x, 100)

We trade our 10th pick and S Wayne and S Winslett to the Milwaukee Mission for their 12th this year and a first rounder in each of the next two years. This was a hard trade to pull, but Watson and Norton will patrol the Secondary together for years to come.

1(12) Brett Wiggins, FB, Kentucky (96,96, 96, 96, 98, 96, 97, 91, 77)

We look to free up some more cap room after the draft...

We release TE Marvin Welch so that he can hook up with another team and pick up a 4th QB in our grand plan to make Parrish happy enough to sign a long term deal...

We move RB Carl Robbins, who is in the last year of his contract, to Green Bay, for two first round picks (2038, 2039).

Training Camp

We concentrate on the 3-4 and running formations, as well as several blitz packages. We carry 9 LBs into camp.

Exhibition Season

McKnight and Ainsworth plus several other vets get breathers.

We lose brand new DE John Jacoby for 2-3 months in the FIRST GAME.

We finish off the exhibition season with a 20-0 drubbing of Dallas and finish at 3-1. But our O-Line gets decimated and we lose 2 starters (G Bensen and T McGwire) for 2-3 months.

Regular Season

2038 Season
Herb says 81-100-100-74 93

Welcome DE Kurt Wiese to the league Hall of Fame! 143.5 career sacks, baby!

Safety Henry Berosik retires after a great year last year...

We still have money issues, so I am going to concentrate on getting younger and cheaper here, while being good to the Keepers.

So many guys are eligible for FA, including T McGwire, DT Bennik, LB Freitag, C Carlson, and FB Rick Hartman. Since all of our Centers are eligible for FA, we Tag Carlson and move to FA.

We have the number one pick in the draft, so we will definitely be making moves.

In a cost-cutting move we send S Banks and TE Dunlap to the Bills for a 1&2 in 2040.

We send our number one overall and a 4th to the Giants for a 2nd round pick (4) and 3rd year Tackle Jack Dotson (93/100/100) - he'll be able to step right in for Finch when he retires.
We send RB Alan Hawne and a 2(32), 5(32), and 6th in 2039 to Las Vegas for RB Jumbo Gale and a 2(10).

We get S Cory Wayne back, plus TE Curtis Foulke and a 2(1) from Milwaukee for our 1(33), 1 and 3 in 2039, and backup DT Fernando Murray. We go into FA looking for youngsters.

We resign FB Hartman, T McGwire (for cheap).

Draft

Rnd 1 - Alan Peterson, C, Arkansas Tech
Rnd 2 - Warren Newman, DT, Wake Forest
Rnd 2 - Edwin Dulaney, CB, Georgia
Rnd 2 - Chester James, S, Southern Mississippi
Rnd 3 - Clarence Scheffer, CB, Texas

A shitty draft - all these guys are backups.

Exhibiton

We go 3-1 as McWilliams goes out with the dreaded Tobacco Withdrawal Syndrome...

Regular Season

Week 1

Week 13

Like I said...34 1st downs, 581 yds offense.

Ainsowrth 22-120-3
McKnight 26-37-379-2-0
Armour 10-195
McWilliams 8-80-1

Week 16
New York Jets (6-8) @ Cleveland (11-3) -9 W 13-10.

Armour 5-86

Week 17
Tennessee (8-7) @ Cleveland (12-3) -13 W 7-3.

Ainsworth being hurt kills us. We have no chance in the playoffs as both our RBs are Doubtful.

Playoffs

Quarterfinals

New England (10-7) @ Cleveland (13-3) -8

Hello old nemesis. Hopefully we can pass and defend! We can and do as Sammie McKnight has one of his nest games ever.

Cleveland wins 27-17.

McKnight 10-56 rushing
McKnight 28-36-364-2-1
Lewinsky 7-122-1
Vance 6-182-1
Still 9 tckls.

League Finals

Indianapolis (13-4) @ Cleveland (14-3) -3

They were the #1 offense and defense in the NFL this year, we were #2 and #3 respectively. We pass some more. Ainsowrth is done for the season. They are obviously not rady for my crafty passing strategy as we CRUSH them.

Cleveland wins 42-11! Back to the Bowl for me for the first time since 2007!

Gable 15-71-2
McKnight 26-39-414-3-1
Armour 10-201-1
Lewinsky 9-136-1
Still WOodson Bellamy Wilkerson each get a sack.

We re-up everyone except for our Center who needs to be resigned. Parrish' stint in the middle of the season got him happy enough to accept an extension.

Superbowl

Greensboro (12-7) @ Cleveland (15-3) -7

They are banged up as we are.

We go up 10-9 in the 3rd on a Blaine Chandler FG from 38. Our one point lead could not be more tenuous as we trade what seems like infinite posessions. Greensboro gets a sustained drive with 2:38 left in the 4th, Cornelius Hooker dives in from the 1 and Greensboro takes a 15-10 lead. Things are looking sucky. Its 4th and 5 from the Greensboro 19 and Sammie McKnight calls Buttonhook-55. Stanley Lewinsky, future HOF, rises up above the Greensboro mortals to pull down the pass on the 3, He takes it in unmolested for the score. Herman Vance scores 2 and we take a 3 point lead with 48 seconds left. Our defense keeps it that way.

CLEVELAND WINS 18-15!!!!! IT IS SOOOOO SWEEEEEET!!!!!

Gable (doubtful THROUGHOUT the playoffs) 11-56-0
McKnight 11-29-206-2-2
McWilliams 3-75
S Will Norton 11 tckls, SuperBowl MVP
Wilkerson, Woodsen 2 sacks a piece.

No league honors! I am so honored )

More soon...

Wow. You traded up a storm, filled the infirmary, brought home the bacon. Wow.

Thinning out WR to beef up LB (while cutting payroll) was well-executed, and I somehow figured it would take a year to jell.

Congrats on a strong, quick, two seasons !

I am eager to get back in that leather recliner and start bullying agents again...

More on our Superbowl run...

We were so thin at RB that I set our run tendency on 1st and 10 to 5% for the entire playoffs. I don't think the scouting reports reflected such a huge shift until the Superbowl where our defense ended up winning the game for us.

My Johan award winner for 2037 was McKnight (obviously) and for 2038 it will be Antoine Parrish for his MVP play while McKnight was out.

My keepers are The Thunder Brothers, Safeties Lonnie Watson and Will Norton. Hopefully they will be starters for the next 8 years...

Great Job Syrinx and Subby !!!
(I was away these last few days)

Congratulations on a great dynastie.
If my guess is right, we have now won 8 SuperBowls in 11 years with Sammie as the QB...oh my god.

incredible.

Funny to see that we have been winning SuperBowls with Blaine, then had a long time not winning one (more than a decade...that was the Lee Clark era) and then we find Sammie and we return as the most decorated team in all of the NFL...

8 SuperBowl wins over the last 11 years.
incredible.
Awesome.

GO BROWNS !!!

Go Browns!!!!
