MK's "Attempt" at a UCF Football Dynasty, Year 1 (2001)

University of Central Florida Introduces Public to New Football Program

Spring 2001

In an announcement coming seemingly from nowhere, the University of Central Florida announced the addition of a Division I-A Men's Football Program, to begin play this fall, at a News Conference yesterday afternoon. UCF President Bill Clinton also introduced an old buddy of his, MylesKnight as the First Coach of the UCF Football Program.
Myles comes to UCF from a Baggers Position at a Jacksonville area Supermarket and has no previous Head Coaching experience, although he has helped a friend of his coach a 6th Grade Pee Wee football team in Jacksonville over the last couple of seasons in a part time role. UCF President Bill Clinton had this to say when asked about the decision to bring Myles in as Head Coach, "Well, we've been buddies for years, and Myles used to always whip my tail at those Video Football Games. I thought, who better to bring to in to be the Head Coach of UCF Football? Now if you will excuse me, I have a meeting with a couple of my interns that I can't miss." UCF Coach Myles had this to say at yesterday's news conference, "I feel my experience dominating the Computer in Football Games on my Playstation as well as my experience as a Assistant Coach of the Neptune Beach Fightin' Bananas of the Jacksonville Pee Wee League has prepared me for this position as Head Ball Coach at UCF. Plus, it doesn't hurt to have a buddy in higher places that owes you one (wink wink)."
UCF has announced it will compete as an Independent at the I-A level, until such time as the school is able to gain Conference membership. Also, the school announced all Home Games will be played at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Downtown Orlando. Further announcements including the rest of the coaching staff, players, and the first season's schedule will be made within the next few days. Stay tuned..

House Rules

1. No Cupcake Rule - Must try to schedule the Highest Ranked Teams possible each season.
2. No Blitzing Recruits, Only 1 Phone Call or Visit per week
3. Whenever possible, recruit only players with GPA's Less Than 3.0 or SAT Scores of less than 1000. (We don't need Nuclear Chemists, we need Ball Players)
4. Not allowed to recruit players ranked in the Top 250 unless prestige level is at 80 or above.
5. No inducing transfers from teams rated higher than us in the previous season's final BCS Poll.
6. 60 Scholarships a year, period. No cheating the AI glitch.
7. Must recruit players from the Southeast only, but primarily the state of Florida for the first 5 seasons at least. This includes FL, GA, SC, AL and MS only. (Need to build a good home base first).

Anything else I may think of later as I play the game will be added.

Coaching Staff

Program Coordinator: Duane Logan (Age 50)
Academic Eligibility - Fair
Compliance/Investigation - Lousy

Hmmm, Coach Logan is great at raising money but is terrible when it comes to School Compliance. Not the kind of guy you want running your program. I wonder how long it will take for him to get us put on Probation.

Play Calling - Pretty Good
Injury Avoidance - Terrific
Injury Rehab - Terrific
Personability - Terrible
Quarterbacks - Pretty Good
Running Backs - Excellent

Looks like a pretty good young coach who is a real &%$@# to work/play for.

Defensive Coordinator: Carl Hammontree (42)
Play Calling - Excellent
Injury Avoidance - Very Good
Injury Rehab - Decent
Personability - Very Good
D-Linemen - Good

Looks like an average coach whose players want to play for him. Also, a good strategist.

UCF Signs 68 Players for Inaugural Team

The University of Central Florida has announced their Football Roster for their Inaugural Season. The Knights have signed 68 players, including 52 Scholarship Players (out of 60 available Scholarships) and 16 Walk Ons. Coach Myles and his staff have worked their patoodies off assembling a roster from scratch in only a couple of weeks time. Most of these players have transferred up from Division I-AA and Division II schools, while a few are JUCO transfers and a few others are fresh out of High School. Not one player on the UCF roster has One Down of I-A Football experience. Good Luck Knights.

When your highest rated player is a Punter, you know it may be a tough season.

By the looks of things, it looks like we're going to be relying on Senior Transfer Running Back Alfred Dennie (current rating 35) to supply the majority of the offense.
There is a three way battle going on for QB right now between Thurman Hansen (21), Aaron Schulz (14) and Artie Manning (12) (Archie's other son?). Schulz and Manning both have good upside, so they may see quite a bit of action this season. The rest of the offense looks pretty bad on paper. We do have a decent looking couple of linemen though between Howie Gann (30) and Jason Dittoe (27) but that's about it.
On the defensive side, it looks like we'll be led by a surprisingly strong Secondary (wow). Also, Linebacker Aaron Finley (31) looks like a keeper, but as with the offense there are plenty more negatives than positives.
Our kicking game looks like it may be our strong point, and I feel we will definitely be using it quite a bit (especially the Punting side). Punter Winston McGee (39) is rated the best player on the roster (lmao) and Kicker Kurt Fulton (33) is no slouch either.
Overall, it looks like a long, first season in Orlando for the Golden Knights.

UCF Academics in Question

A recently released report regarding Academic Integrity has ranked UCF 94th out of 125 I-A schools when it comes to Overall Academic Reputation.
When asked to comment on this, Golden Knight Football Coach MylesKnight stated, "Heck, I'm here to Coach Ball Players and win Ball Games. Academics? Well, we do got an awfully big playbook for our players to study. We just need to win Ball Games and those Professors will take care of those grades."
When asked to respond, UCF President Bill Clinton said, "Well, Coach Myles is a good ole' boy, what do you expect? I didn't hire him to teach Nuclear Physics. He's here to build a winner and however he does that is between him and his staff. Plus, there are 31 other schools that would love to be ranked 94th among I-A schools in Academic Reputation, so how about that?. Now if you will excuse me, I have a meeting with my Secretary."
It should be a very interesting season in Orlando, to say the least.

Knights Announce Schedule for Inaugural Season

The UCF Golden Knights will face a very tough task in their first ever football game as they pay a visit to Death Valley to face the Clemson Tigers. In addition to the visit to Clemson, UCF has announced their complete schedule, including the Knights first ever home game against the Univ. of Louisiana-Lafayette in the third game of the season. UCF Head Football Coach MylesKnight had this to say, "We tried like heck to schedule the best teams we could and this is the best we could do. Unfortunately, we couldn't find any big name teams with the $alls to come down to the Citrus Bowl, so we'll have to go on the road and kick their (expletive)." The Knights schedule includes 5 home games and 6 road games with 4 of those road games against teams ranked in the Top 50.
UCF also announced a very impressive 39,700 season tickets have been sold for this upcoming season. That is more than half the capacity of the Florida Citrus Bowl (70,200 est), and more than pleases school officials.

UCF NEWS & NOTES

Knights 1st Game to be Televised

Fox Sports Net has announced it will televise the Inaugural Game for the UCF Golden Knights when they visit the 8th Ranked Clemson Tigers this weekend. "I think the National Media already is respecting UCF Football." Knight Coach Myles had to say. But an annonymous UCF Student had this to say, "Coach is crazy. We're going to get crushed. He must be out of his mind if he thinks UCF has anything to do with this game getting on TV." In either case, make sure you check it out, Saturday at 1:00pm on your local Fox Sports Regional Network..

Knights Drop a Few Spots in BCS Poll

UCF dropped five spots from #104 to #109 in this week's BCS Poll. The Knights also dropped from #95 to #97 in the Writers Poll, but held steady at #107 in the Coaches Poll.
Also, Inaugural Opponent Clemson jumped from 20th to #8 in this week's BCS Poll without playing a game.

@ #17 Wisconsin 40, Virginia 14 (Eddie Robinson Classic, at Madison, WI)
@ #2 Nebraska 51, TCU 0 (Pigskin Classic, at Lincoln, NE)

I was waiting for you to say something..

Actually, I'm going to continue on with posting of this Dynasty. I didn't want to lose the 2 seasons I wrote up on the previous FOFC Board, and there hasn't been any word about transferring all of the old threads to this board, so I have decided to go this route.

Any of it sound familiar so far??

Yeah, I remember how bad UCF sucked!

I really think they are going to do everything possible to get the threads transferred, but we'll just have to see how that goes.

Actually reading through the first two years of the UCF Dynasty and now transferring the info to this board has really got me fired up to get this thing rolling again..

By the way, the countdown has begun for the Knights trip to Madison on September 5th, 2009 for a nice ole' Southern Style Whoopin' of the Badgers.

Here's a link to a site a fellow UCF'er has created with future Knight schedules listed.

Here ya go My Friend!!

UCF at Clemson - Pregame

News & Notes

Thurman Hansen has been named the Starting QB for the Opening Ballgame. Hansen (Current Est 21, Future Est. 21) is a Redshirt Sr. Transfer from a Division III School in North Dakota. He won the job over Redshirt Jr. JUCO Transfer Aaron Schulz (14, 30) who will be his backup and True Freshman Artie Manning (12, 50). Manning will be Redshirted this season, barring any injuries or unforseen catastrophies.

UCF has announced a total of 10 players will Redshirt this season. The actual available roster will consist of 58 players, with only 45 of those on Scholarship.

On the Recruiting Trail

Not much news to report here. It's tough finding guys with the GPA and SAT Test Requirements I have set (GPA less than 3.0 and SAT less than 1000). We're getting a lot of feedback saying recruits are surprised to here from us, and expect to sign with a more prestigous school than UCF. Their loss..

UP NEXT, IT'S TIME FOR UCF GOLDEN KNIGHT FOOTBALL!!!

KNIGHTS TAKEN BEHIND WOODSHED BY TIGERS

Well the Honeymoon didn't last long for UCF Football. The Knights travelled to Clemson for their First Ever Football Game and were easily beaten by the 8th Ranked Tigers 32-3, in a game that was not nearly as close as the final score indicated. UCF gained a measley 99 yards in the game, with 81 of those coming on a first quarter run by starting tailback Alfred Dennie to set up UCF's first, and only, score of the day (a 29 yard field goal by Kurt Fulton). The Knights actually had 110 yards of offense in the first half but were held to an embarrising -11 yards in the second half.
UCF quarterback Thurman Hansen was sacked 8 times on the day and managed only 63 yards, on 11 of 28 passing, with 1 pick. The Knight defense didn't fare much better giving up 346 yards, including 226 on the ground.
All in all, it was a long day for the Knights as they fell to 0-1 on the season.
Coach MylesKnight had this to say after the game, "What have I gotten myself into? I feel like my whole team's been sodomized."
Oh what it is to be a College Football Coach.

Key Performances for UCF - NONE. Everyone played pitiful. We had one good play (the 81 yard run by Dennie) and that was a busted play by the Tigers. As far as bad performances go, our Offensive Line allowed 8 sacks and numerous other pressures, and our Punter Winston McGee, my highest rated player (39), had a couple of punts deep in our territory that didn't even go 20 yards. This set up easy scores for Clemson that put the game away (as if we were going to come back and win, lmao).
If this were the NFL, my entire Offensive Line and Mr. McGee would've been cut before we even made it back to the Locker Room.

Injuries: 2nd String Tailback - Spencer Rogers (Current Est. 27, Future 27) broke his arm while playing on the Punt Coverage Team. He will be out 13 weeks, basically for the season. With our lack of talent, any injury hurts.

Next up for the Knights is a trip to the Carrier Dome to face the Orangemen of Syracuse.
Kickoff is set for 7:00pm est. this Saturday from upstate New York.

Knight News & Notes

Thurman Hansen has retained his job as Starting Quarterback for the Knights despite a terrible performance last week against Clemson. Hansen passed for only 59 yards with 1 Interception and was sacked 8 times on the day. Expect to see backup Aaron Schulz get some time early in this week's game though. He did see some time in mop up duty last week against the Tigers, playing the last offensive series for UCF.

The UCF Defense, despite giving up 32 points to Clemson did not play all that badly. They were faced with terrible field position nearly all day long but still managed to keep the game respectable for quite some time. The defense will be tested this week by a multi-dimensional Orangemen Offensive attack. The Orange have the ability to run anything from a Triple Option to a Spread Formation and will keep the UCF Defense on their toes.

UCF must be able to get first downs and keep the ball for a decent amount of time. In last week's game against Clemson, 11 of UCF's 17 Offensive Possessions ended in negative yardage and the Knights only managed 4 first downs all day.

Also, the Knights need a better performance from punter Winston McGee. On more than one occasion McGee made terrible kicks from deep in UCF territory that led to easy scores for the Tigers.

On the Recruiting Trail

We have now contacted a total of 24 players in one way or another thus far and have yet to really receive any good news from any of them. I'm starting to think we may be the least prestigous University in the history of College Football because that's all I hear from recruits. Oh well, we'll keep at it, and hopefully get a few surprises in the end.

Weather - Indoors, 68 Degrees

No TV (Thank God)..

UCF Blanked by Orangemen

Despite a 32-3 thrashing at the hands of the Clemson Tigers last week, the UCF Golden Knights went into Saturday's matchup with Syracuse confident they could leave the Carrier Dome with a W.

Those thoughts lasted only for a brief few minutes, as the Orangemen stormed out of the gate, and blew out the Knights, 45-0.

Running back Ben Morris led Syracuse with 4 touchdowns in the first half, and the score at the break was an astounding 42-0. UCF turned the ball over 5 times on the day, including 3 interceptions by 3 different quarterbacks.

Starting QB, Thurman Hansen was benched midway through the second quarter after yet another dismal performance. Second stringer, Aaron Schulz relieved Hansen, but on his first play threw an interception that was returned 58 yards for a touchdown. Schulz was immediately benched and redshirt freshman Antonio Foster got his first playing time as a Knight. Foster played the rest of the way and ended the day 11 of 20 for 76 yards and an interception. Despite the numbers, Foster looked to be the most impressive QB for the Knights thus far this season.

The Knights were outgained on the day 407-141 and had the ball for only 23 minutes.

It was another long, long day for the Knights, who will look for their first win, in their inaugural home game this coming Saturday against Louisiana-Lafayette. Game time is set for 6:00pm at the Florida Citrus Bowl.

Key Performances - There weren't many, but QB Antonio Foster came in late in the 2nd quarter and played pretty well. His scrambling ability and creativity in the pocket helped him avoid numerous sacks and make a few outstanding plays.
Also, Sophomore WR Orlando Shelton had 5 catches on the day for 68 yards.
On the defensive side, Redshirt Freshman DT Jerry Horn had 1.5 sacks and 6 tackles on the day. He seems to have a knack for being around the ball. Overall though, it was a dismal performance by the Knights once again.

Injuries - RB Rodney Thornton (sprained ankle, 2nd qtr) and WR Charlie Edwards (groin, 4th qtr) were both injured and out for the rest of the game. Both should be okay in time for next week's game with La-Lafayette though.
RB Spencer Rogers (broken arm) is recovering well, but more than likely will miss the rest of the season. His injury was suffered in the Clemson game.

NEXT UP FOR UCF IS THEIR INAUGURAL HOME GAME, AS LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE COMES TO TOWN. KICKOFF IS SCHEDULED FOR 7:00pm THIS SATURDAY AT THE CITURS BOWL!!

UCF vs. Louisiana-Lafayette - Pregame

Knight News & Notes

UCF Coach MK has announced Redshirt Freshman Antonio Foster will be the starting QB for this Saturday's game with ULL. Foster was the 3rd string QB, but came in, in the 2nd quarter of last week's loss to Syracuse and played fairly well. Former Starter - Redshirt Junior Thurman Hansen, after two lackluster performances is now the backup and former 4th stringer, true Freshman Riddick Lyons is now the 3rd string QB.

Also, there has been a change at the Running Back position. Raymond Delatorre (Soph.) will get the start this week and former starter, Alfred Dennie (Sr.) will be backing him up. Delatorre has played well in spot duty thus far this season.

The Knights must find a way to move the football. They've scored a grand total of 3 points through two games and have given up a total of 77. It's been the tale of two halves, in each of the first 2 games for UCF. Against Clemson, the Knights only trailed by 10 (13-3), at the break, before the Tigers took over and completely dominated in the second half and won going away 32-3.

And then last week against Syracuse it was the first half that killed UCF. The Orange stormed out to a 42-0 halftime lead, and won the game 45-0. The Knights haven't played too badly for one half in each of those games, but the other half has turned these games into embarrisments for UCF.

On the Recruiting Trail

We've now gotten in contact with 30 potential recruits. We've had numerous in-house visits with recruits, and I'm proud to announce our first on-campus visitor is coming this weekend. I think we'll start to see things come together in the near future and we may finally get a few solid commitments to UCF.

NOW IT'S TIME FOR THE FIRST EVER UCF HOME FOOTBALL GAME, AS THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS HOST THE RAGIN' CAJUNS OF UL-LAFAYETTE. IT'S KNIGHTTIME IN ORLANDO!!

KNIGHTS LOSE HEARTBREAKER, 24-13

The Citrus Bowl was rocking as the UCF Knights made their inaugural appearance at home Saturday Night. All that was missing from this historic night was a W for the Knights.. alas it just wasn't meant to be as the Ragin' Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette made the key plays down the stretch and held off UCF 24-13.

The Cajuns were aided by 3 UCF turnovers, one a 77 yard Interception return for a touchdown late in the first half that put ULL on the scoreboard. A second Interception in the 3rd quarter near midfield, was returned to the UCF 26. From there, the Cajuns easily scored another TD to give them a 17-7 lead. The final turnover came on tne next drive. The Knights, drove deep in ULL territory when on a 3rd and 2 from the Cajun 32, tailback Alfred Dennie fumbled the ball as he was stretching for the first down. The Cajuns recovered and from there took control of the game.

This loss really stung, as the Knights outplayed ULL in nearly every category. UCF outgained ULL by 150 yards (426-276), with 181 yards coming on the ground and 245 through the air. UCF QB Antonio Foster had the best performance thus far by a Knight QB as he passed for 245 yards on 17 of 39 passing. He also was only sacked once on the day, using his outstanding athletic ability to avoid numerous losses.

Another record setting performance came from tailback Alfred Dennie. Dennie who didn't start the game, but came in after an injury to Raymond Delatorre (injured disc in his back), carried the ball 12 times for 129 yards, thus acheiving the first 100 yard rushing game in UCF history. Delatorre unfortunately will need season ending back surgery, but the Sophomore should be back at full strength in time for the start of the 2002 season.

Other performances of note include WR Orlando Shelton (4 catches - 118 yards, first 100 yard receiving game in UCF history) and DE Victor Force (3 sacks, 4 tackles).

The Knights suffered four serious injuries on the day after going through the first two games with only one injury. Besides Delatorre, starting TE Rondell Mitchell broke his left hand making a block and could be out up to 8 weeks among others. Backup CB Russell Woodard pulled a groin and could be out up to 4 weeks and Punter Winston McGee sprained an ankle and is questionable for next week's game.

UCF will look to break their 3 game losing streak next week, when they visit the Superdome to take on the Tulane Green Wave of C-USA. Gametime is set for 8:00pm est

Key Stat of the Game: 3 UCF Turnovers of Course. Knights take care of the pigskin, they go home with a W.

Week 5 - UCF 0-3 at Tulane (-15) 2-1

Louisiana Superdome, New Orleans, Louisiana - 8:00pm est Kickoff

Weather - Indoors, 68 Degrees

No TV (Will the Knights Ever See TV Again?) Radio Only.

KNIGHTS WHIPPED BY WAVE, 44-0

Many thought this would be the night. After last week's solid performance against Louisiana-Lafayette, where the Knights dominated every facet of the game except on the scoreboard, many of the Knight faithful thought this would be the night for the first victory in the history of UCF Football. Problem was no one told the Tulane Green Wave.

The Wave stormed out of the gate and completely manhandled the Knights en route to a 44-0 thrashing Saturday Night at the Louisiana Superdome.

The Knights seemed to look a lot like the team that was drilled in Syracuse a couple of weeks ago as they committed 5 turnovers on the day, including 4 fumbles and were only able to sustain one drive of more than 5 plays, the entire evening.

As badly as the offense played, the defense was just as painful to watch as Tulane racked up 433 yards of offense including 264 on the ground.

"We took a big damn step back today," Knight Coach Myles stated after the game, "I really thought we turned a corner in the game against the Lafayette (Louisiana-Lafayette), I don't know what the hell happened today. This team would've had a helluva time beating those pee wee teams out there on the field at halftime. Maybe I need to get back into the sellin' groceries. %@*@$#$@"

UCF continues a span of 4 out of five contests on the road with a trip to Blacksburg, Virginia to take on nationally ranked Virginia Tech this Saturday. Game time is set for 12 Noon. Lord help the Knights in that one. They're darn sure gonna need it.

HOKIES GOBBLE UP KNIGHTS, 63-17

Well you knew there would more than likely be a few Saturdays like this one in Blacksburg, Virginia for the inaugural version of UCF Football. But, oh how they hurt in the buttocks afterward nonetheless.

The Golden Knights learned another lesson in how to play quality football, as the Hokies of Virginia Tech manhandled the Knights 63-17 Saturday afternoon.

This one was over quickly as VT stormed out to a 21-0 lead in the game's first 8 1/2 minutes, including a 37 yard Interception Return for a Touchdown on UCF's first Offensive play of the game. UCF's Bucky Carlisle managed the first Kickoff Return for a TD in UCF history to pull the Knights within 14 at 21-7, but the Hokies came right back with 2 more quick Touchdowns to put this one out of reach.

Although the Knights scored a record 17 points, they only managed 81 yards of total offense in comparison to Virginia Tech's astronomical 586.

14 of UCF's 17 points came on returns; Carlisle's return and a 89 yard Interception return for a TD by Dan Shaughnessy in the 4th quarter. The Knights offense was completely stagnant as they were only able to complete a drive of more than 12 yards once on the day. Starting QB Antonio Foster was pulled after only completing 3 of 16 passes for 53 yards and 2 interceptions. Backup Thurman Hansen was just as bad, if not worse, completing 1 of 6 passes for 5 yards and an Interception before being pulled in favor of 3rd stringer Riddick Lyons.

UCF was outgained on the ground 216-3 and through the air 370-78. Virginia Tech also dominated in the first down category, with a 35-4 advantage.

"This looked a lot like a Varsity game against the Powder Puffs." Coach MK had said after the debacle, "I really thought we'd come in here fired up after being embarrased last week against Tulane but I was wrong. My ulcer can't take too many more of these butt whoopins, I'll tell you that much. But we will win a game this season. I don't know when or how, but we will get it done dadgumit."

Bright spots on the day for the Knights were, well the only real ones were the 2 returns for Touchdowns and Bucky Carlisle finishing with a record 249 yards on 6 kickoff returns, which included one of those TD's. Of course giving up as many points as the Knights did, the kickoff return yardage may have been a bit deceiving.

Next up for the Knights is a matchup against the UAB Blazers, in only the 2nd home game for UCF thus far this season. Game Time is set for 7:30pm Saturday Evening, and hopefully this time the game by 15 minutes after the start time.

The Blazers come to the Citrus Bowl with a 2-3 record and are coming off an embarrasing loss of their own, 56-3 at the hands of Southern Miss.

This may be the week Knight Fans!! Let us pray..

By the way, sorry about the lack of in depth info in between the Tulane and Virginia Tech games, a little technical error there on my part. I will be running the game week format the original way with News & Notes, Injury and Roster Updates, and Pregame Notes before each game.
It's good to be back to UCF Football, even though it's a very disheartening experience at this point. I thought we'd be more competitive than we are. I guess that's what makes this so fun though.

GO KNIGHTS!!

Orlando Radioman to Stay Locked in '75 Pinto Trunk Until Knights Actually Win

A local Orlando Radio Host has decided to take a stand to hopefully motivate his beloved Golden Knights. After last Saturday's loss to Virginia Tech, Eric Souflet has decided to lock himself in his prize 1975 Metallic Orange Pinto with Teal Trim until the Knights are able to get a victory.

"I just decided losing blows and this is getting ridiculous, so I wanted to do what I could to help the team. I really have no societal qualities so what better to do than lock myself in my phat ride, pop in some classic eight tracks, and wait for the Knights to storm to victory. Rock on Man." Souflet had to say when asked about his actions.

Souflet is known to many in the Orlando Area as Spanky Stacey, the Transvestite Dental Hygenist Diva, who hosts a weekday morning radio program on 92.1 the Psycho.

Souflet will be doing live radio remotes from the trunk of his 1975 Pinto daily to check in on his and UCF's progress. When told of this, UCF Coach Myles had this to say, "Damn crazy kids nowadays. All highed up on Coke-aine and Mary-Juana. What's the world comin' to nowadays? What happened to Jim Beam and Joe Camel bein' enough?"

NOTE: Sorry about not adding quotes made from my fellow FOFC'ers up to this point. The idea flew right over the top of my head.. From here on out, they will be added just as previously written.. Here we go...

C-Bailey24:

"LMAO @ Transvestite Dental Hygenist Diva. Man that was too funny. Good to see the UCF dynasty up and running again. I try read and keep up with all the dynasty threads...guess i should do my part and pick up where i left off on the Vandy dynasty i started as well.
Hope you get that win soon, or this story line could very interesting.
"

Me in Response to CB

"Thanks CB, we do what we can.
Updates coming later on today/this evening, including the Home Game against UAB.
My biggest question on that one is will anyone actually show up to watch?
"

...then a bit later, this from bigjdotcom01

"I posted a link to your website on my Buffalo Bulls site. Good luck against UAB!"

...and Me again

"I apologize for not thanking you for that sooner BJ. I noticed that on your Buffalo Bulls-TCY Site a few days ago and I appreciate that.

On a side note, I'm having problems with copying and pasting info from the game (Stats, Standings, Etc.) onto my site. I've noticed you've been successful at it. What exactly should I be doing? Even when I am able to paste, the lines won't line up evenly and I end up spending a bunch of time straightening them out.

Thanks in advance..

Here's hoping we can finally get off the schnide this evening against UAB..
"

On the Recruiting Trail

The Knights received their first decline as Top 1000 RB, Joe Wilkerson turned down UCF in favor of Ohio University. Joe felt Ohio, with their Option-I Offense, would be a better fit for him.
UCF does have 5 youngsters visiting for this weekend's game with UAB. Another 22 are still considering the Knights and hopes are a few of these will choose UCF as there destination.

UP NEXT, IT'S GOLDEN KNIGHTS FOOTBALL. UCF & UAB, FROM THE CITRUS BOWL

KNIGHTS WIN!!!! KNIGHTS WIN!!!

What a night it was in Downtown Orlando. The UCF Golden Knights, coming off 5 consecutive losses to begin their Inaugural Campaign, finally saw all of their hard work come together as the Knights outplayed and then held off the UAB Blazers 14-7 Saturday evening in a downpour, at the Citrus Bowl.

The Knights came out on fire and dominated the entire first half of play, taking a commanding 14-0 halftime lead. UCF was led by starting QB Antonio Foster, who played nearly flawlessly, going 20-34 for 201 Yards and 2 TD's, before leaving the game early in the 4th quarter with a Shoulder Injury.

The Blazers managed to close the gap to 7 points midway through the 4th quarter, on a 35 yard return of a UCF fumble, for a Touchdown. The Knights held off the Blazers the rest of the way though, stopping UAB twice on downs, on late game drives in UCF territory

As the final gun sounded, UCF players and coaches hugged and cried in what was a very emotional scene as fans flocked the field in triumph.

"All the sweat and tears and hard work that all of these people associated with UCF Football have put in has finally paid off tonight." UCF Coach MK had to say after the game, "What a win. What a great day for the University and a great day for the city of Orlando and Central Florida Area. Helluva win. WOOOO!!"

Although the UCF Offense had one of their best games of the season, it was the defense that carried the Knights to victory, holding UAB to only 201 yards of total offense. The Knight Defense also had 4 sacks and caused 2 turnovers on the evening.

"We knew coming into this season, it was going to take the offense a lot longer to get on track than the defense. The defense has played well this season, dispite some of the scores in previous games." UCF Defensive Coordinator Carl Hammontree stated moments after the game. "We've got an off week coming up this week so were gonna give these kids a couple of days to celebrate this one. We've worked for nearly a year to get this feeling and it's (expletive) unbelievable."

The Knights are off until a week from this coming Saturday, when the Indians of Louisiana-Monroe come to town for Homecoming 2001.

The Bye Week may not be a bad thing though as the UCF Campus will be a wild place the next few days. UCF Football is alive and well. What a great time to be a Knight...

Key Stat of the Game: 18 UCF 1st Downs to UAB's 10. The Knights dominated the T.O.P., leading their way to the first victory in school history.

STARTING QB FOSTER OUT FOR SEASON WITH INJURY

What a heckuva price to pay for your first win in program history. UCF Starting Quarterback Antonio Foster, who was injured in the 4th Quarter of last Saturday's win over UAB, is now done for the season.

Xrays of his injured shoulder showed a major dislocation and torn cartiledge that will require surgery. The surgery will be done within the next couple of days, giving the Redshirt Sophomore plenty of time to rehabilitate and get ready for the 2002 season.

Foster was injured as he slipped on the soaked turf at the Citrus Bowl and fell back on his left shoulder. As he was falling, he was slammed into the ground by a UAB Linebacker, resulting in the injury.

RS-Senior Thurman Hansen relieved Foster the rest of the way as the Knights held off UAB.

The Knights are now down to 3 Quarterbacks on the roster as True Freshman Artie Manning is being redshirted.

The 3 QB's currently available are (with Current and Future Estimates listed):

Code:
RS-Senior Thurman Hansen 21 21 RS-Junior Aaron Schulz 14 30 Freshman Riddick Lyons 9 27
Hansen has seen action in 5 games, starting the first 2 of the season but has played horribly. (15-50, 83 Yds. 3 Ints., 31.9 Rating)
Schulz has seen mop up duty in 2 games and Lyons in 1, thus it's difficult to judge them at all at this point.

Foster himself hadn't played all that well himself this season, but he was the best QB UCF has had to offer up to this point, (63-130, 684 Yds., 1 TD, 7 Ints., 84.4 Rating in 5 Games Played with 4 Starts).

What a tough, tough break for the Knights. Hopefully they can find a way to keep improving on the offensive side of the ball and build on their inaugural victory last weekend. It sure is a lot better winning games than getting your a$$es pasted, that's for sure.

KNIGHTS NEWS & NOTES - WEEK 8 (Bye Week for UCF)

Here is UCF's Schedule/Results thus far this Season

KNIGHTS ON THE RECRUITING TRAIL

The University of Central Florida is proud to announce their first ever recruit to announce his intentions to play college football at UCF, Rusty Tapp (Center) from nearby St. Petersburg, FL. Rusty will definitely be a project for the Knight Coaching Staff, with a Scout Rating of 11, and a 2.13 GPA with a SAT Score of 651. Hey, you've got to start somewhere. Thank you Rusty for your commitment to UCF.

As for other recruiting news, this is a huge weekend for UCF as 28 prospects are visiting the campus for the weekend. 7 others are still considering a visit to UCF, making the grand total of current prospects UCF is looking at, at 35. The Knights have 15 scholarships currently open, so signs are defintiely looking good in Orlando.

MISC. NOTES

The QB Battle is still ongoing as Thurman Hansen, Aaron Schulz and Riddick Lyons are battling it out to see who'll start next Saturday against ULM. Hansen seems to currently have the upper hand, but expect to see at least 2 of the 3 get playing time next week.

The off week will give the Knights a chance to rest after their brutal early season schedule and to heal quite a few injuries. The Knights currently have 7 players on the major injuries list, with many others with minor injuries.

Preparations are already being made for UCF's 1st Ever Homecoming Football Game, a week from this Saturday against Louisiana-Monroe. The folks at the UCF Ticket Office are expecting a near sell out of the Florida Citrus Bowl for this one and campus will be a madhouse.

KNIGHT NOTES

Head Coach MylesKnight has announced Redshirt-Senior QB Thurman Hansen will get the start against the Indians. Hansen started the first 2 games of the season before being demoted in favor of Antonio Foster. Foster, as I'm sure you already know, was injured in the Knights victory over UAB 2 weeks ago.
True Freshman Riddick (Bowe) Lyons will back up Hansen and RS-Junior Aaron Schulz will be the Emergency, 3rd Stringer.

No other major lineup changes to announce.

INJURIES

QB Antonio Foster - Shoulder Surgery - Out for Season
CB Casey Rayford - Back Surgery - Out for Season
RB Raymond Deltorre - Back Surgery - Out for Season
RB Spencer Rogers - Broken Arm - Out 6 Weeks
TE Rondell Mitchell - Broken Hand - Out 5 Weeks (Doubtful)
CB Russell Woodard - Pulled Groin - Out 1 Week (Probable)
OLB Jamal Levens - Strained Hamstring - Out Unknown Time (Probable)

ON THE RECRUITING TRAIL

After a very busy last weekend, UCF has announced the signing of 3 more recruits, bringing the total thus far to 4. With the Knights still in contact with 23 other potential recruits, it looks as if the Class of 2005 is coming together very nicely.

The Knights were snubbed by 4 players though, so it wasn't all hugs and kisses for UCF.

Here is a listing of the 4 Knight Recruits who have Verbally Committed thus far:

QB Irv Simmons - Cape Coral, FL. - #864 Nationally, #48 in Florida.
TE Greg George - Belle Glade, FL. - #74 in Florida.
C Rusty Tapp - St. Petersburg, FL. - Unranked
CB Tracy Martinez - Orlando, FL. - #84 in Florida.

Coach MK had this to say about the recruiting class thus far, "We may have very well found our QB of the future in Irv Simmons. He will have every opportunity to win the Starting Job next season. Greg George and Tracy Martinez both can expect to see playing time next season while good ole' Rusty Tapp, well we may have to reshirt ole' Rusty for a while. He looks like a real project and lord knows we've got plenty of those already. But he's a good ole' boy so we'll throw him in the weight room and see if we can turn him into a damn pit bull or somethin'."

Here is Louisiana-Monroe's Schedule/Results thus far this Season

Code:
Week Opponent Result Attendance Weather TV 2 at Central Michigan L, 7-31 17,200 Rain, 53 3 at #4 Florida L, 14-79 83,000 Stormy, 64 Sunshine Network 4 at Cincinnati L, 11-21 15,300 Sunny, 74 *5 MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE L, 21-35 12,300 Sunny, 84 Fox Sports South *6 NEW MEXICO STATE W, 27-23 9,500 Sunny, 78 *7 NORTH TEXAS W, 16-13 11,000 Rain, 67 9 at UCF *10 at Louisiana-Lafayette *11 at Idaho 12 TROY STATE *13 at Arkansas State

The Indians are 2-4 thus far, but at 2-1 in the Sun Belt Conference are still in the hunt for the Inaugural Sun Belt Title and an automatic berth into the National Championship Tournament.

The Indians run an offense very similar to UCF's with close to a 60-40 split, pass-to-run. Although they have struggled at times this season, no way are the Knights overlooking this one. Just look at what happened to UCF last time a Sun Belt Conference school from Louisiana came to the Citrus Bowl (Louisiana-Lafayette 24, UCF 13).

UP NEXT, IT'S UCF FOOTBALL FROM THE CITRUS BOWL!! KNIGHTS AND INDIANS, RIGHT NOW!!

KNIGHTS GO DOWN HARD ON HOMECOMING

What a shame. In what was the most festive day in UCF Football History, a 2nd consecutive victory was what many, if not all of the Knight faithful were expecting. And they went home disappointed.
The Knights, blowing an early 4th quarter lead, couldn't take advantage of numerous opportunties and ended up losing their Inaugural Homecoming Game 31-24 to Louisiana-Monroe, Saturday evening. The Indians took the first possession in the Overtime session and scored a touchdown on 3 plays. Then UCF took over. On 3rd and 15 from the 30, Knight QB Thurman Hansen's pass was tipped at the line of scrimmage and intercepted. The ULM players stormed the field as the UCF players, coaches and fans stood stunned on the sidelines and in the stands.
"What a tough, tough loss." UCF Coach Myles said after the debacle. "We really didn't deserve to win this game, if you look at the stats. We were outplayed and we turned the ball over a bunch of times, which is really disappointing. ULM played well, give them credit, but we really should have brought a better effort, being Homecoming and all. Damn I'm disappointed."
UCF turned the ball over 5 times on the day, including 4 interceptions by QB Thurman Hansen (3 in the 4th Qtr., 1 in overtime). On the day, Hansen went 14-26 for 101 yards, in what was a horrid performance. There weren't too many bright spots for UCF on the day as the Knights fell to 1-6 on the season, clinching a losing season in their Inaugural Campaign.
The Knights hit the road next week, heading out to the Rocky Mountains. UCF with be in Logan, Utah to face the Utah State Aggies. Gametime is set for 10:00pm est, Saturday Evening.

Key Stat of the Game: 5 Knight Turnovers. Enough Said.

UCF at [color=royal blue]UTAH STATE[/color] - Pregame

KNIGHT NOTES

Another week, another change at QB for the Knights. After his dismal performance against UAB, RS-Senior Thurman Hansen has been demoted to 3rd string. RS-Junior Aaron Schulz will get his 1st career start this weekend, with Freshman Riddick Lyons backing him up.

No other major lineup changes to announce.

ON THE RECRUITING TRAIL

UCF has announced the signing of 3 recruits this past week, putting the total number of signees for the Knights thus far at 7. These 3 youngsters, as listed, are;

RB Calvin Vargas - Hinesville, GA
WR Riddick Kozak - Orlando, FL
S Sam Howe - Longwood, FL

UCF Head Coach Myles will have more to say about these 3 recruits next week, during the first of a series of UCF Recruiting Specials on the UCF Radio Network.

Here is [color=royal blue]Utah State[/color]'s Schedule/Results thus far this Season

Code:
Week Opponent Result Attendance Weather TV 2 at Utah L, 3-31 30,900 Sunny, 66 FSN-Rcky Mtn 3 at Louisiana State L, 7-39 60,500 Stormy, 60 4 at Fresno State W, 31-21 15,100 Sunny, 93 5 WYOMING L, 3-26 16,700 Rain, 58 6 OREGON L, 15-37 16,400 Sunny, 56 7 at #11 BYU L, 3-59 47,400 Sunny, 66 9 FRONTIER STATE W, 52-6 14,800 Sunny, 49 10 UCF 12 at Connecticut 13 at Troy State 14 at South Florida
The Aggies are 2-5 thus far this season, but after last week's debacle against Louisiana-Monroe, I'd say we need to play very well to beat anyone. The Aggies have been blown out a few times (ala UCF), but have faced a tough schedule thus far for the most part.

UP NEXT, IT'S THE KNIGHTS & THE [color=royal blue]AGGIES[/color], FROM LOGAN, UTAH, ON THE UCF FOOTBALL NETWORK.

And now some a comment or two...

Raven Hawk:

"MylesKnight,

I just thought that I would contribute a little to this dynasty. I noticed that you may be running out of vocabulary for the headlines following your games. Hopefully this list will help you out a little.

Beaten, Overcome, Overwhelmed, Overpowered, Conquered, Crushed, Routed, Whitewashed, Trounced, Vanquished, Subjugated, Thrashed, Destroyed, Whooped Reeeaaal Good, Maliciously Defamed, Killed, Slain, Slaughtered, Eradicated, Executed, Murdered, Exterminated, Bent Over a Barrel, Curbed, Rode Hard and Put Away Wet, Beaten like a Red-Headed Stepchild, Force Fed a Humble Sandwich.

Hopefully you won't need all of these. I just thought I'd help out.

Good job with your dynasty. It's a good read."

..And then Myself, in Response..

" .. Not really the type of help I was looking for (if you're talking describing Knight blowout losses - which I'm sure you are)..
I really like "Whooped Reeeaaal Good!!" Put that in with a cajun accent and that would be classic..
Thanks for reading, I was beginning to wonder if "anyone" was paying attention.."
