**IWS #65 Restults**
Here are the most common answers to IWS #65...
1)How tall is the average man? 6'0-14 5'10-10 5'9-3 5'11-3 5'7-2 6'2-1 6'1-1 I'm not sure if people actually think 6 feet tall is average or if they were picking it because it's a nice round number. 2)Give the name of a major grocery store. Krogers-7 Wal-Mart-4 Albertsons-3 Food Lion-3 Safeway-3 Publix-2 Win Dixie-2 Acme-2 Shop Rite-2 Shop n Save-1 A&P-1 Giant Eagle-1 Piggly Wiggly-1 Vons-1 Meijir-1 I have to be honest here. I've never heard of Krogers being from the Northwest. In Oregon we have Safeway, Albertsons, Winco, Costco and Wal-Mart. For some reason I thought Wal-Mart would be the #1 answer considering it's national and the others are not. 3)How much weight could the average American stand to lose? 20-12 25-7 10-7 50-3 30-2 40-1 35-1 15-1 I actually saw this question on Family Fued a while back and thought it sounded good for IWS. 20 was the number one answer on the game show as well 4)Who will win the Super Bowl next season? Patriots-27 Eagles-5 Panthers-1 Falcons-1 I wanted a little football present in this IWS, but it seemed pretty obvious I should have asked another question. If you didn't answer New England you didn't finish above 20th place. 5)Give the name of an actor, athlete or singer who died of drug use. Elvis-8 Jimi Hendrix-6 Jim Morrison-5 Kurt Cobain-4 John Belushi-3 Len Bias-3 Chris Farley-2 Marylin Monroe-1 River Phoenix-1 Korey Stringer-1 These were good answers, but I have one question. Did Korey Stringer die of a drug overdose or heat exhaustion? 6)What do you think of Howard Stern? love him, hate him, no opinion Hate Him-13 No Opinion-12 Love Him-9 This one didn't go one way or the other. Before I waste any more of your time I present you the final standings. Code:

Congrats, Tasan!
Kroger was the first grocery store chain that popped into my head, but I figured that since they were a regional chain that they didn't really have a shot. Oh well. That one wouldn't have won it for me anyways...

FYI, it's not necesarily national as a grocery store. Depending on where you are from, you could be completely unaware that Wal-Mart sells groceries. I believe it is still a minority of their stores that do.

Also an FYI, but the other day I was taking a back way home from work when I saw a "Walmart Town Market" or something like that. It was a groceries only Walmart. Had never seen one of those before, but it makes sense that they would put those up in areas that are close enough to a Super Walmart that it isn't smart to build another one yet far enough away from it that people wouldn't go there for the occasional grocery shopping trip...

Damn, missed only the groceries question.
I knew Kroger from Atlanta, but had never heard of it in New York - Publix I know goes from D.C. to Florida, so I figured that was a better guess. You live, you learn. *shurg*

I WON I WON I WON!
WOOHOO! Sorry, its been a long time coming, I think I've participated in most of these. I loved reading through the questions and then the answers, and thinking to myself, okay, got that one, just barely missed that, got that, etc etc...wow! Five more pounds off and I would have had a perfect score. Okay, now I gotta clear out PM space and figure out some questions ;- )

I thought the grocery question was great - and the toughest on the list for me. We had Kroger in the midwest, and that was actually my first thought... but I decided to go with Safeway (which I know is in several regions as well).
Ah, well... at least I lost on the question that gave me trouble, rather than one I was sure I was "right" about. |

Same here... to get that grocery question, would have been, for me at least, total luck. Upstate NY has very regional grocery stores (Hannaford and Price Chopper are the only two in the Capital District, in fact), so I had to go off my very limited non-regional knowledge.

The actor/athlete/singer gave me the most problems, though I did pretty well with the Jim Morrison pick. Elvis didn't even cross my mind, I wasn't sure if a Belushi or Farley answer would have been the first on people's minds or if it'd be a singer(and I was debating between hendrix/morrison, elvis... oops).

I was aware that Stringer's death was linked to that supplement that they shortly therafter banned. I was having trouble thinking of an actor/musician (can't believe I didn't think of Elvis...and I was going to put Cobain, but didn't he shoot himself? While on drugs, of course...but shoot himself?), and I lost the newspaper reporter one last time by ignoring the sports scene, so I thought I'd go there. Eh, I was screwed with the Kroger's thing anyways.

The store most common around here is Kroger (dude Kroger is not plural) and I said "Winn Dixie" 'cause I saw that all over Florida and wasn't sure how nationwide Kroger was. Damn.

I immediately thought of a singer (Kurt Cobain), actor (Chris Farley) and athlete (Len Bias), and picked from one of those (Cobain), but never did Elvis, Hendrix (just heard about how messed up he was yesterday, had no idea), or Morrison cross my mind.

Can I just point out that Kobain did not die of a drug overdose but of a shotgun blast to the head?

I tried to do that a few posts up, but it was buried in a set of parentheses.

Techinically, the question doesn't specify drug overdose - just drug use. Many people (at least 4 from FOFC) would argue that Cobain's drug use directly led to his death.

And it is a I am With Stupid contest. I know Kurt didn't technically die of overdose, but would expect this to be one of the top answer. I myself answered Jimi Hendrix (I am high on Jimi right now) but never thought of Elvis. Anyway, a #2 finish is my best ever I think. I answered Wal-Mart never having heard of Kroger |

The weight question did the bad for me.
I thought 50 would be round enough, yet only after submitting I realised how unrealistic that is. With a change, I would have gone for 25, which wouldn't have helped me improve in the rankings (only one spot up past VPI97).

The height question killed me. 6'0 is way tall for the average man. I think most people had the western man in mind, and I missed that point...
Oh, that and I'd never even heard of Kroger...
