my thoughts:
The field is so ridiculously huge that I think betting the field is a pretty solid bet.
And couldn't they find some other celebrity to put up against Ben Affleck to create another "lasts longer" bet? And is he seriously entering, or are they just throwing that out there?

unless they set a limit, we won't know until registration closes (which I assume is probably within hours of the start of the event). I think it's easily going to be 2,000+. There were around 850 last year.

I'm note sure about 2,000. This still is a very expensive tournament to get into and I don't think the simple wannabes are going to put that much cash up to enter.

But I'm sure the online sites are making a fortune off of their WSOP qualifiers.

As a bettor, I can give you almost half that list that I will take bets ON.

Also as a humanitarian, I will tell everyone to never set up account or bet with bodog.

Have you ever entered/considered entering this tournament? Do you play any of these kinds of tourneys (like those shown on WPT)?

My dark horse is Paul Phillips - I have been pretty impressed with his overall game this year on the WPT.

Layne Flack is a damned good tournament player, who hasn't had the exposure on the televised events to boost his profile (a la Gus Hansen and others). There's no way he has the same likelihood of winning as Chris Moneymaker.

I don't think the individual odds on any single player make much sense as a betting opportunity, but I'd look at Flack and perhaps T.J. Cloutier, Carlos Mortensen, and Huck Seed as relative overlays.

1:1 on the field, eh? That might be the best bet of the lot.

From what VV has posted here, he is essentially a limit player. He has posted once or twice about tournament play, but I think they were all limit tournaments.

Playing no limit is a very different game.

I'm amazed that Dutch Boyd is listed that high.

Moneymaker recently made the final table of another big money tournament IIRC, I think he is a very good tournament player and the WSOP was in no way a fluke, but yeah, someone like Flack should certainly be higher.

If I was going to wager on anything there, I would wager on Moneymaker outlasting Varkonyi

From what I've been reading, the WSOP has a 2000 person max this year. They are breaking day 1 into two days, half the field plays on day 1, the other half on day 2, and they merge what's left together for day 3 and on.

The big sites like PartyPoker and PokerStars are sending over 100 people each IIRC(can't check from work), possibly pokerstars is going to send 250+ themselves, and online poker as a whole 500+ easily.

I think he's been on a bunch of the WPT final tables. I haven't watched all of them, but I think I've seen him in at least 3 WPT events.

I agree that the field is probably the best bet of a bad lot here.

But, of course, the reason why Flack and Moneymaker have the same odds is that casinos try to even out the money among bets as much as they can. If they posted CM at, say, 100-1, they could get an influx of (mostly foolish) money bet on him, and the casino would be risking a lot. And casinos hate to take risks.

Betting lines are not designed to predict results. They are designed to predict how the betting public will predict the results. There's a difference, and that's why betting lines sometimes move, and why some people think they're beatable.

My mistake. I've seen several WPT events, and must have just missed him by chance. Though without winning an event (I don't think he has) he won't have the same visibility as those who have won TV events, I'd guess.

I found a page with WPT results:
hxxp://www.poker-babes.com/world-poker-tour/

In the first season, Layne won the Hollywood Invitational and finished second to Howard Lederer at the Foxwoods World Poker Finals.

GO Devilfish!

I've played with him in England and he's a smooth mother effer.

I'm going to vegas may 10-15th, when Howard Stern is gonna be there -- i;ll be at the Bellagio $10/20 or $15/30 tables most likely. I'll be the guy in the Izod Alligator kangol-type hat.

BOYCOTT INTERNET LIMIT NON-TOURNAMENT POKER -- ITS A RIPOFF, IVE LOST ENOUGH TO KNOW LOL

Final thought: PL OM HI is the game of the future! Way more complex and interesting than Holdem, but watch out for that nasty river...
