2037 Before Season

Staff Hiring:

No changes.

Fiscal Report:

Franchise Value is 50-92-99-55. 12.8 million profit because we spent so little on salaries last year. We keep the ticket prices for both cheap sections at just 60 bucks a ticket and jack up all our expensive seats and boxes to come in line with Baltimore and Washington.

20 Step Free Agency 1-10:

QB Carter gets the tag in a heartbeat. Trades for T Ross and G Southard are declined. SDO really wants our backup QB for some reason (he sucks) and is offering the 1(3) but I decline it because it looks like an AI glitch. Taking it would be cheating. We are in dire need of a viable WR threat for Carter to throw at but the FA pool is junk. We instead grab TE Jack Martinez, a great pass catcher, for three seasons.

20 step Free Agency 11-20:

P Ridenour signs a 2 year deal.

Draft Needs:

Man that FA pool sucked big time. We need offensive linemen like there's no tomorrow - one of each variety. Trade offers for RB Sampson and TE Cobb are turned down. Another huge need is a WR.

Draft Report:

1(35) LB Thurman Harlow - Great ratings across the board.
2(35) WR Lonnie Middleton - Awesome returner who happens to be a redliner.
3(35) C Morris Lyon - Has the WOW kind of numers that just jumps out.
4(35) FB Corey Drake - Not sure why nobody picked this guy up.
5(35) RB Chester Keith - Gotta fuel that merry go round.
6(35) QB Clay Edinger - Pure backup material.
7(35) S Kendrick Doyle - Good low round quality backup.

PreCamp:
QB Carter signs the ultimate in stoopid money deals. He will drain the cap like crazy for 7 seasons but at least we're locked in at the QB position for a goodly number of years.

G Southard signs a 3 year deal.
LB Davidson signs a 3 year deal.

Postcamp trades for FB Drake, TE Cobb and C McAleese are rejected.

Nobody breaks out and nobody busts. Darn, WR Middleton didn't bust out as expected.

Only so much you can do when everyone gets injured. Our top two CBs are lost for the season midway through and yet we manage to survive. QB Carter has a great season in a standard 75 Offense despite all our receivers and the starting Rb being hurt at various points in the season. The backup RB gets like 1200 yards on just 8 starts (and 8 backup games). Cleveland repeats as Super Bowl Champion by beating Green Bay. As customary for a 75 offense, we lead the league in rushing.

2038 Before Season

Staff Hiring:

No changes.

Fiscal Report:

Franchise Value is 50-88-99-56. 9.1 million loss after our stoopid money contract to Carter. Ticket prices are now 50% for the Upper Deck and End Zone seats.

20 Step Free Agency 1-10:

We tag DT Dixon. PIT offers 2(15) for RB Sampson and we take it since this is his last year. NYJ offer us 3(5) for the venerable CB Austin and we take that too. Our 1-10 guy is WR Dexter Allman from SDO. The guy can catch anything and should b a fixture as our #2 or #3 WR for years to come.

S Woodworth signs a 3 year deal and will finish his career a Knight.

20 step Free Agency 11-20:

DE Ed Godfrey signs on for 5 seasons with us.

WR Ellis signs a 3 year deal.
LB Kennedy signs a 4 year deal.

Draft Needs:

FA sucked again and we have to go to the draft. PIT wants our #2 DT for the 3(15) pick and I figure what the heck. He's decent but we lose him after this season. We're having major rebuilding this year with all kinds of draft picks. Among the more important needs are a new WR threat and a new OG and OT. We also seem to need DE and CB.

Draft Report:

1(29) DE Darren Blair - Should be a good pass rusher.
2(15) CB Everett Carlson - Can step in immediately at Nickel.
2(29) G Rex Flowers - Good pass protection potentials and High loyalty.
3(5) RB Ernie Finley - Looks like the default James Stewart RB type.
3(15) RB Pete Holliday - The guy has like maxed Endurance and Breakaway.
3(29) FB Daryl Buckley - 100 Potential in run blocking.
4(29) C Kent Bergstrom - Pretty good numbers across the board.
5(29) K Dan Chechetts - Great KO distance and accuracy potential.
6(29) P Randal McDonald - 60 kicking power and 84 potential in punts returned.
7(29) WR Donald Salaam - Return demon.

PreCamp:
Trade offers for C McAleese and FB Buckley are declined.

DT Dixon signs a 4 year deal.
G Daigle signs a 3 year deal.
CB Clements signs a 4 year deal.
T Jensen signs a 4 year deal.

Postcamp trades for FB Drake, TE Martinez, T Ross and DT Dixon are rejected.

Wow, 2(15) CB Carlson breaks out like a mofo and we have a bona fide ultrastar.

2039 Before Season

Staff Hiring:

Scout Kenneth Herman is back for 5 more years.

Fiscal Report:

Franchise Value is 99-100-99-53. 6 million profit last year on low salaries (8 mill below the cap). The new stadium is a big hit, but we have to lower all our prices to keep in line with the WAS-BAL prices. Still, with so much more capacity and 100 fan loyalty, we should reap huge profits.

20 Step Free Agency 1-10:

We tag CB Coburn. Most of our FAs are total garbage, but we need to replace T Ross. A trade for C Lyon comes in and is declined. Damn, we don't get the stud LB in FA that we wanted.

LB Davidson signs a 3 year deal.

20 step Free Agency 11-20:

LB Dixon Huntley signs a 3 year deal.
LB Wesley Cooper signs a 3 year deal.
QB William Gibson signs a 3 year deal.

QB Edinger signs a 4 year deal.
DT Bottoms signs a 3 year deal.
G Rodriguez signs a 2 year deal.

Draft Needs:

We have one major need - dominant OT. The other thing we need is a new DT to play opposite Dixon. Another good WR and a great TE would also be nice. Antoher trade offer for C Lyon is declined.

Draft Report:

1(34) DE Reuben Levine - Will be dominant.
2(34) G Ernie Lichtenberger - Will be dominant.
3(34) TE Chad Frierson - Potentials look good in the big two ratings.
4(34) QB Daniel Merkerson - Looks like a steal with 72 potential accuracy.
5(34) G Paul Johnston - Lots of great OG in this draft.
6(34) S Warren Adams - Near Redliner.
7(34) LB Donny Force - Strictly a backup.

PreCamp:

C Lyon signs a 4 year deal.
CB Coburn signs a 4 year deal.
TE Martinez signs a 3 year deal.
FB Drake signs a 3 year deal.

Postcamp trades for G Southard and CB Carlson are rejected.
1(34) DE Levine is a slight breakout, as is 2(34) G Lichtenberger.
Depth is about as good as I can ever remember it at almost all positions.
Oh yeah, we sell out the house.

Again, the two best teams in the NFL meet for the title game when 16-1 Denver squares off against 13-3 Richmond. We can't handle due to injuries (S Woodworth is out and we lose all our WRs during the game so I see my kick returners lining up at wideout... it gets pretty ridiculous). We make a game of it until the late third quarter when Denver breaks it wide open.

Our rushing offense was absolutely dominant, getting about 180 YPG. We had not only the league's leading rusher (1st Team All-Pro and Offensive MVP RB Holliday, who only started 11 games), but RB Finley had 786 yards and 9 TDs plus we had the 1st Team All-Pro FB Drake *and* the 2nd Team All-Pro FB Buckley. Don't ask... I have no idea how the heck that happened.

Incidentally, I noticed I had a 100 for profit from Herb (End of season score was 96 overall with umm 95 100 100 73 or something like that). Just for kicks, I checked our the franchise's balance sheet in 2040 before shutting down FOF2001...

Wow.

WOW. Cha-ching!

Revenues jumped over 180% and were in excess of 1.08 billion dollars. Yes folks, bilyuns and billyuns... As for profit? Something around 720 million dollars. I'm guessing this is the kind of model all those dot-coms are based on - 20 years of modest 20 million dollar losses to get 700 million bucks a year for every year thereafter.

And to think I actually *lowered* the 2039 ticket prices to match the lower of BAL and WAS for each seat category...

2040 Before Season

Staff Hiring:

No changes.

Fiscal Report:

Franchise Value is 99-100-99-54. 712.8 million profit. Not bad.

20 Step Free Agency 1-10:

We tag nobody. Trade offers for FB Buckley, TE Martinez, and G Flowers are declined. We have no money to go after anything significant.

20 step Free Agency 11-20:

T Shane Jackson signs for 3 years.

Draft Needs:

Pressing needs are WR, TE, and T. We are solid across the board on defense and could use a few backups for depth.

Draft Report:

1(35) T Darnell Booker - Another prospect has seemingly better potentials, but this guy can play right away.
2(35) S Terrell Weber - I have a good feeling about this punt returner.
3(35) WR Rodney Bradley - Redliner.
4(35) RB Jonathan Forbes - More breakout gambling.
5(35) DT Van Cailao - Dominant run stopping potential in the 70s.
6(35) DE Scottie Garrison - Best of the leftovers.
7(35) T Roman Iverson - More depth.

PreCamp:

Precamp trades for T Booker and FB Buckley are turned down.

P McDonald signs a 2 year deal.
K Chechetts signs a 2 year deal.
LB Harlow signs a 3 year deal.
S Woodworth signs a 3 year deal.
C Bergstrom signs a 3 year deal.

Postcamp trades for G Johnston, T Booker, C Lyon, and CB Carlson are declined.
Hmm the Packers are moving to Billings. 1(35) Booker, 2(35) Weber, and 3(35) Bradley are only slight breakouts.

For the first time since 2019, we don't make the playoffs. Almost every key starter missed 4 or more games due to injury, most notable was QB Carter going down just a few weeks into the season.

2041 Before Season

Staff Hiring:

We hire Johnnie Alcott for a 5 year term away from the Bears and give our old coach Irving Lane the boot. His Avoid Injury had declined to Good without me noticing, leading to the disaster in 2040.

Fiscal Report:

Franchise Value is 98-100-99-54. Only a 582 million dollar profit since we didn't make the playoffs. Somehow, we actually have a 27 support for a new stadium. Bizarre.

20 Step Free Agency 1-10:

RB Finley gets the tag. The Vikes offer 3(7) and a backup LB for T Booker - we take it since Booker only had two more seasons andwasn't the great T we wanted.

20 step Free Agency 11-20:

LB Howie Dunlap signs a 3 year deal.
T Harris Chapman signs a 3 year deal.
CB Albert Fonseca signs a 4 year deal.

G Denny signs a 2 year deal.

Draft Needs:

Pressing needs are WR, TE, and T as always. Trades for C Lyon, G Lichtenberger and TE Martinez are turned down.

Draft Report:

1(20) S Roy Rose - We have a replacement for when Woodworth retires now.
2(20) WR Dominic Bailey - The Go-to Guy.
3(17) RB Jeremy Schwartz - Might be a bust.
3(20) RB Irving Allamon - Can play WR also with good catching ratings.
4(20) TE Pat Willow - Good on Third Down.
5(20) QB Jessie Westbrook - Has bust profile, but what the heck.
6(20) T Zach Smetana - Absolutely no endurance but good skill potentials.
7(20) TE Donny Campbell - Redliner.

PreCamp:

S Martin signs a 3 year deal.
LB Davidson signs a 3 year deal.
DT Dixon signs a 4 year deal.
P McDonald signs a 3 year deal.
WR Allman signs a 4 year deal.
FB Buckley signs a 3 year deal.

Postcamp trades for DT Dixon, FB Buckley, CB Carlson, TE Martinez are declined.

TE Martinez signs a 3 year deal.

Wow, what a difference a year makes. After a dismal 8-8 season and missing the playoffs for the first time in over two decades, we sacked the coach and hired someone who could keep our boys healthy. Johnnie Alcott was not a proven winner (only made playoffs once in his career prior to this) and even after this season is still below .500 lifetime. In 2041 he takes us to what can only be called the greatest Super Bowl in Richmond Knights history.

From the opening kickoff to the final gun, this game is wild and all over the place. We (13-3 NFC East Champion) host the (12-3 AFC East Champion) Miami Dolphins in front of a packed house. This is why you always, ALWAYS get some kick return specialists:

Code:
RICHMOND won the toss and elected to receive. Beginning of First Quarter. MIA 10 Blank kicked off 72 yards from the MIA30. RIC 14 Makofske returned the ball 102 yards for a touchdown! Extra point by RIC 5 Chechetts was good. Score: Richmond 7, Miami 0.

Miami moved the ball virtually at will during the entire first half through the air, but our ground game kept us in it. Right before halftime, we mess up not once, not twice, but thrice:

Code:
2-10-MIA42 (00:31) RIC 12 Carter sacked by MIA 94 Couture and MIA 97 Heflin for a loss of 4 yards. Sack allowed by RIC 62 Flowers. Ball was fumbled and recovered by MIA 98 Mussorgsky for 0 yards to the MIA46. Possession to Miami. 1-10-MIA46 (00:26) MIA 16 Bruce pass completed to 82 Reeves for 27 yards. Tackled by RIC 49 Woodworth, assisted by RIC 21 Martin. MIA called time out. -- 1-10-RIC27 (00:19) MIA 43 Wyatt ran up the middle for 2 yards. Tackled by RIC 99 Levine. MIA called time out. 2-08-RIC25 (00:07) MIA 10 Blank attempted a 42 yard field goal and succeeded. Score: Miami 24, Richmond 14. MIA 10 Blank kicked off 75 yards from the MIA30. RIC 14 Makofske returned the ball 25 yards to the RIC20. Tackled by MIA 88 Nelson. Ball was fumbled and recovered by MIA 31 Kaplan for 6 yards to the RIC14. Tackled by RIC 33 Forbes.

The team is shaken and Miami takes the opening kick of the second half the distance to go up 31-14. Things are looking grim, and we are still down 31-14 at the start of the fourth quarter. They miss a field goal and QB Carter drills a long 36 yard pass for a TD - RIC 21, MIA 31. Our coach gambles and calls an onside kick (WTF?!?!) but Miami goes nowhere and gets just a field goal -MIA 34, RIC 21 with 8 minutes to go. We don't abandon the ground game that got us to the Super Bowl and pound away... and MISS a field goal! The defense holds though, and we get the ball back. QB Carter goes nuts:

Code:
Possession to RICHMOND. 1-10-RIC27 (04:17) RIC 12 Carter pass was overthrown, intended for 82 Bradley. 2-10-RIC27 (04:09) RIC 12 Carter pass completed to 82 Bradley for 19 yards. Tackled by MIA 42 Chatham. -- 1-10-RIC46 (03:52) RIC 12 Carter pass completed to 82 Bradley for 20 yards. Tackled by MIA 59 Covey. -- 1-10-MIA34 (03:34) RIC 12 Carter pass completed to 82 Bradley for 10 yards. Tackled by MIA 26 Watkins.

We punch it in but need a miracle with only 3 minutes left in the game and down 34-28. The ensuing kickoff:

Code:
RIC 5 Chechetts kicked off 66 yards from the RIC30. MIA 23 VandenBelt returned the ball 24 yards to the MIA28. Tackled by RIC 32 Weber. Ball was fumbled and recovered by RIC 81 Bailey for 0 yards to the MIA28. Possession to RICHMOND.

Holy crap! We are still in this mofo! We go backwards though, and turn it over on downs with 1:47 left. Our defense finally shows up:

Code:
Possession to Miami. 1-10-MIA33 (01:40) MIA 31 Kaplan ran around right end for 2 yards. Tackled by RIC 50 Davidson. RIC called time out. RIC 26 Carlson was injured on the play. 2-08-MIA35 (01:28) MIA 43 Wyatt ran off left tackle for -1 yards. Tackled by RIC 21 Martin. RIC called time out. 3-09-MIA34 (01:16) MIA 43 Wyatt ran off left tackle for 1 yard. Tackled by RIC 53 Mahoney. RIC called time out. 4-08-MIA35 (01:06) MIA 4 Vance punted 34 yards from the MIA35. RIC 32 Weber called for a fair catch at the RIC31.

With 55 seconds left in the game, down by 6 and no time outs remaining at your own 31... what ya gonna do? Hail mary...

Code:
Possession to RICHMOND. 1-10-RIC31 (00:55) RIC 12 Carter pass completed to 82 Bradley for 50 yards (OOB). Tackled by MIA 26 Watkins. -- 1-10-MIA19 (00:47) RIC 12 Carter pass completed to 82 Bradley for 19 yards and a touchdown! Extra point by RIC 5 Chechetts was good. Score: Richmond 35, Miami 34. RIC 5 Chechetts kicked off 73 yards from the RIC30. Touchback. Possession to Miami. 1-10-MIA20 (00:39) MIA 16 Bruce pass was intercepted by RIC 25 Rose at the RIC37. The interception was returned 0 yards. Tackled by MIA 85 MacPherson.

Are you kidding me? Miami is shocked. Imagine the insanity at Cady Coliseum in front of the home crowd of 99,900 100 Fan Loyalty maniacs! Mr. Disneyland Bradley puts up a scorching line of 9 catches for 174 yards (19.3 YPC!) and 3 TDs including the game-winner. QB Carter sparkled with a 14-29-0 for 222 yards and 3 TD performance. NFL MVP and 2nd Team All-Pro RB Holliday gave us 18-118 on the ground. The story of the defense was the linebacking: LB Dunlap 14/3 tackles, LB Davidson 11/2 tackles and 1.0 sacks.

The formula of ground pounding via the 75 Offense (1st in NFL with 163.5 YPG Rushing) and outstanding defense (3rd vs. Run 81.3 YPG and 3rd vs. Pass 176.2 YPG) worked well this year because we had so few injuries (only a few 3-5 Week ones on key players, 2-3 Month ones to backups only).

Nice work, Arnold. It disturbs me how much effect a coache's Injury rating has on a team's fortunes.

Wow, what a comeback! Steve Sabol should produce that game for FOF Films.

Subby, why do you keep calling him Arnold?
His name is something else.

In another thread, I mentioned the source of the Morgado screen name was from the free "Arnold Morgado for Mayor" T-shirts I had in undergrad and used to wear around the dorms. My motto is that "free ninety-nine is the right price." So anytime I get free t-shirts, I use em quite a bit.

BTW yeah I think the NFL Films tape of that game would be unreal. The sideline shots of the Miami and Richmond benches and coaches during the unbelievable fourth quarter action would be great. Tons of emotion swinging back and forth with the fumbled kickoff, the three and out, and the subsequent go-ahead bomb. The interception at the end by the backup rookie safety would be the capper like that tackle made on Kevin Dyson at the 1 yard line.

RB Hanks debuts in week 2 and starts 13 games for us, amassing 1,458 yards on 254 carries (5.7 YPC!) and ties for the league lead with 18 TDs. S Woodworth's 16th season is as good as any, leading the team with 85/24 tackles in just 8 starts (half of which were at CB!). Woodworth added 4 INTs, which is not bad considering he only started half the season. Should he retire this season, he will go out with a bang: an 8 tackle, 1 INT performance in the 2042 Super Bowl.

We led the league in rushing again with 175.5 YPG. Our pass offense was rather unnecessary, totaling just 176.3 YPG (yes, we ran for almost as much as we threw for each week). Our most insane week? Week 10 victory over Atlanta, where RB Hanks trampled the Falcons for 37-296 and 3 TDs. That week, QB Carter had just 13 attempts (completed 8 and had 2 TDs even). One particularly dominant aspect of the offense? 3rd Down conversions, of which we were 100 for 230 (.434) to lead the NFL. Also in the red zone we did well, punching in 39 of 50 for TDs and added 10 field goals for an average of 6.0 points per visit.

The defense was decent, although not as good as in previous years due to the patchwork nature of the 11 we fielded each week. Injuries to the DE, LB, and CB positions really threw a wrench into the lineups. We were 3rd vs the run (86.1 YPG) and 15th vs the Pass (214.0 YPG). Another valuable part of the team was P McDowell, who planted 33 of 85 punts inside the 20 and had a 42.2 average.

S Norm Woodworth does in fact retire in the offseason and is a guaranteed first ballot guy for the Hall of Fame.

Yup,

If you could get a screen shot of his last few season stats, along with a brief bio (include awards and stuff) I'll post it on the site! We decided not to throw ratings up there until after the votes, that way we can see how players have developed. Right now, I am going to work on my three current HOFer's (after a general discussion thread on how to do this). Hell, of a player Morgado!

I think the All-WLC team will be one of the best parts of the challenge... I know I've got a couple guys I'm looking forward to nominating! As a sub-contest, who can get in the player with the lowest ratings? (since we won't see them before voting)

2043 Before Season

Staff Hiring:

No changes.

Fiscal Report:

Franchise Value is 87-100-99-55. Profit is dropping steadily, this time only 635 million since we haven't upped ticket prices since the first year Cady Coliseum opened. Wow, that stadium sure aged quickly. We actually have 62 in public support for a new stadium...

20 Step Free Agency 1-10:

We tag CB Coburn. Trade offers for S Martin and CB Carlson are declined. We desperately need help at T and will sign someone. Oh man the T in the FA pool are really, really terrible. Guess we won't be getting a T on the FA market.

20 step Free Agency 11-20:

DE Earnest Tapia signs a 4 year deal.
T Amos Wooden signs a 4 year deal.
T Rusty Farmer signs a 4 year deal.

Draft Needs:

What we really want right now is a dominant TE or a dominant T. If a dominant RB slips, we are jumping on that too. LB might be nice and DT is not bad. Trade offer for starting TE Jack Martinez is turned down.

Draft Report:

1(36) QB Ronnie Shapiro - QB Carter is in the last year of his contract.
2(36) TE Donnell Ramirez - I pray he breaks out.
3(36) C Colin Colberg - We lost our backup to FA.
4(36) LB Leroy Needham - I am wowed. Great run stopping and pass rushing potentials.
5(36) DE Lorenzo Watson - Amazing run defense potential. DE to DT experiment.
6(36) FB Leon Maloney - We lost the backup here too.
7(36) TE Billy Blevins - Redline gamble.

PreCamp:

Trades for T Chapman and FB Buckley are declined.

CB Coburn signs a 4 year deal.
LB Dunlap signs a 4 year deal.
LB Davidson signs a 3 year deal.
FB Buckley signs a 3 year deal.
QB Carter signs a 2 year deal.
G Briones signs a 2 year deal.

Postcamp trades for DT Dixon, FB Buckley and DE Levine are declined.

Well, fortunately or unfortunately there are no suprises.

We make it back to the playoffs almost in spite of QB Carter and not because of him. For the second straight year, he has a poor season with a rating below 80. We lead the league in rushing as usual and finish top ten in both defensive categories. Carter is great in the playoffs though, and we roll into the Super Bowl again. Carter goes down early in the game though, and we struggle to hold on to a lead. By the early fourth quarter, that lead is gone and we try to play catch up with rookie QB Shapiro. We end up with one last gasp but can't hit the bomb.

2044 Before Season

Staff Hiring:

Someone pilfers our scout so we get Leo Prescott, who is VG at YT, DB, and QB.

Fiscal Report:

Franchise Value is 86-100-99-51. 553 million profit last year. Wow, we have 94 support for a new stadium. CB Coburn is released at this time.

20 Step Free Agency 1-10:

Due to a careless mistake on my part, we have been reprimanded by the WCL and have no use of the tag or 1-10 FA for 2044-2046. Trade offers for G Flowers and RB Hanks are turned down.

S Martin signs a 4 year deal.

20 step Free Agency 11-20:

WR Van Cleave signs a 3 year deal.
CB Lenny Dunn signs a 4 year deal.
T Matt Stevenson signs a 4 year deal.

Draft Needs:

Trade offer for starting FB Buckley, DT Dixon, and C Lyon are turned down. A new DT is sorely needed. Wow, what a draft pool!

Draft Report:

1(35) DT Malcolm Alicea - Ask and ye shall receive.
2(35) DT Hardy Palmer - Insurace in case of a bust.
3(35) RB Blaine Trudeau - Breakaway and YPC make him a great depth pick.
4(35) C Bob Wright - Good currents as well as awesoem potentials. 2nd round talent.
5(35) T Eddie Osborne - I can't believe this guy is still around.
6(35) LB Bernard Napier - Redliner.
7(35) FB Spencer Griffin - Outstanding talent who doesn't belong here.

PreCamp:

Trades for CB Carlson and DE Levine are declined.

CB Carlson signs a 4 year deal.
P McDowell signs a 3 year deal.
G Flowers signs a 3 year deal.
G Briones signs a 3 year deal.
C Lyon signs a 3 year deal.
DE Blair signs a 4 year deal.
LB Mahoney signs a 4 year deal.

Postcamp trades for FB Buckley, LB Mahoney, DE Levine, CB Carlson, and DE Blair are declined.

6(35) LB Napier turns into the LB Davidson clone we've been looking for. Neither DT pick busts so we are ultra solid up front. 4(35) C Wright is a big bust though, and we will dump him. 2nd year QB Shapiro looks like he may have developed some more.

Thanks to key injuries late in the season, we end up getting ripped off as the Cardinals take the NFC East via the NFC Record tiebreaker even though we swept the regular season series.

Wow, we didn't lead the league in rushing. We were second... injuries to RBs probably had something to do with that.

2045 Before Season

Staff Hiring:

Leo Prescott is back with a 5 year deal.

Fiscal Report:

Franchise Value is 82-100-99-50. 463 million profit last year. Hmm, the Pack is moving to Billings this season.

20 Step Free Agency 1-10:

Due to a careless mistake on my part, we have been reprimanded by the WCL and have no use of the tag or 1-10 FA for 2044-2046.

Wow the Vikes offer 1(8) and our old G Southard for DE Levine. Tempting, but Levine rocks. A terrible offer for RB Hanks is turned down.

20 Step Free Agency 11-20:

QB Dixon Lluellyn signs a 4 year deal.
WR Clyde Mitchell signs a 3 year deal.

K Cornell signs a 2 year deal.

Draft Needs:

Trade offer for starting DT Palmer and C Lyon are turned down. We need another CB and another WR. A great TE, if available, will be taken on sight.

Draft Report:

1(29) CB Ryan Mullins - Has it all... even punt return skills!
2(29) TE Michael Linquist - Potentials are off th charts, but might be a bust.
3(29) DT Glenn Manning - Either the other GMs are brain dead or he's a bust.
4(29) TE Kelly Jackson - More insurance.
5(29) WR Jared Woodward - Really high catch percentage potentials.
6(29) G Kelly Vaughn - Great run blocking potentials. Shouldn't be available this late.
7(29) T Rico Johnson - Best available.

PreCamp:

Trades for QB Shapiro, DE Blair, and DT Alicea are declined..

LB Napier signs a 4 year deal.
S Rose signs a 4 year deal.
QB Shapiro signs a 5 year deal.
WR Sawchuk signs a 4 year deal.
DE Levine signs a 4 year deal.
FB Buckley signs a 3 year deal.
LB Davidson signs a 3 year deal.

Postcamp trades for TE Linquist, C Lyon, DE Levine, FB Buckley, and DT Alicea are declined.

6(35) LB Napier turns into the LB Davidson clone we've been looking for. Neither DT pick busts so we are ultra solid up front. 4(35) C Wright is a big bust though, and we will dump him. 2nd year QB Shapiro looks like he may have developed some more.

We lose an overtime thriller to the Saints on the road when they manage to hit the 41 yard bomb. Our D played a great game but our kicking game stunk it up in postseason. We missed two field goals against the Giants and we missed like a 25 yard chip shot as time expired against the Saints (should have won).

Well, this is the last hurrah. We have all kinds of really bad injuries all season long and at one point have only two safeties who can walk. Injuries in the WR corps are pretty bad too, but we somehow limp into the playoffs with home field advantage. In the NFC Title Game, we have no excuses as everyone is healed by then (only 2 probables, although some players suffered stat loss).

I think I know why dominant quarterbacking is so powerful in FOF. The thing about having an awesome quarterback means you can make first downs on basically any play, regardless of yardage. Since medium range passes usually go for 15-22 yards, you can convert even third and long on a regular basis. TE is important, but even more important is the FB - your FB almost always seems to be open for some reason. The only teams we ever got beat by in the playoffs (or during the regular season even) were the ones with dominant quarterbacks. The thing was that the defense could make two spectacular stops but that third play would be a 17 yard pass and all was for naught. Whereas a normal QB would not have been able to pick up the first down and we get three and out, the defense has to make two or three great one-two punches to kill a series on a failed third down conversion. Even with a defense that consistently ranked in the top 10 in both categories, it's hard to get negative or zero yardage plays for two downs straight consistently. So even though my defense was fabulous year in and year out, the dominant quarterbacks with even scrub receivers could give the Knights problems.
