Who'd Be In Your Ultimate Band?
I saw this on another board that I frequent, and thought it might make a good topic for discussion. Maybe see what kind of people are into what music.
Feel free to make your band with what ever arrangement(sp? its late where I am) you wish (vocals, guitar, keyboard, bass, drums, dj). Here's mine: Vocals - John Reznick (Goo Goo Dolls) Guitar - Kirk Hammet (Metallica, Exodus) Guitar - Slash (Guns 'N Roses) Bass - Les Claypool (Primus) Drums - Danny Carey (Tool) DJ - DJ Joe Hahn (Linkin Park)

Lead Guitar - David Gilmour (Floyd) Bass Guitar - Roger Waters (Floyd) Drums - Danny Carey (TOOL) DJ - Hahahahahahaha! (lol!) Don't get me wrong, I love Slash and Clapton...but the chance of having Gilmour and Waters back together is just too hard to pass up. |

Drums: Janet Weiss (Sleater Kinney, Quasi)
Vocals: Tim Wheeler (Ash) Female Vocals: Sarah Shannon (Velocity Girl, Starry Eyes) Guitar: George Harrison (rest in peace) Rhythm/Second Guitar: Stone Gossard (pearl jam) Violin: Petra Haden (that dog.) Bass: one of 20 people. I want a functional bassist who doesn't need to be the center of attention. Bonus song-writers: Pre-mental meltdown Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) Elliott Smith I chose a lot of people who I also consider excellent song-writers. There'd be a lot to work with here. |

Hmmm, rather than trying to assemble what I consider to be the best musicians at each instrument, I'll focus more on assembling ones I think might mesh together to create the most interesting music:
Bjork - vocals Thom Yorke - vocals David Sylvian - vocals - I'm looking for interesting singers here with an experimental bent and strong songwriting capabilities, and the ability to step back and let the music speak. Nick McCabe - guitar The Edge - guitar John Squire - guitar Robert Fripp - guitar - A cacaphony to be sure, but all uniquely interesting voices with the instrument capable of supplying both texture, grit and power. Tony Levin - bass, stick Percy Jones - fretless bass - Levin supplies the foundation with the bass and adds texture with the stick, and Jones adds his own unique voice with his fretless bass playing. Jimmy Chamberlain - drums - I want a player capable of creating an interesting beat but also to supply the thunder when needed. Brian Eno - keyboards, guitar treatments, production - Eno helps stir the pot and keeps the group headed in unexpected and interesting directions. Last edited by dawgfan : 02-01-2003 at 04:25 PM. |

With their bands in parentheses (to help out those who might not be familiar with a member); potential to be the most interesting band right now (to me, at least):
Thom Yorke (Radiohead): Vocals Bjork: Vocals Chan Marshall (Cat Power): Vocals Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth): Guitars Billy Corgan (The Smashing Pumpkins): Guitars Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth): Bass Jimmy Chamberlain (The Smashing Pumpkins): Drums Extra-special guest drummer: Dave Grohl (Nirvana/Foo Fighters) Warren Ellis (The Dirty Three): Electric violin/fiddle Tori Amos: Piano & keyboards Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails): Keyboards DJ Shadow: Electronica and turntables DJ Kid Koala: Electronica and turntables Edit: Yeah, on reflection I'd probably take Chamberlain over Grohl. But not on the heavy tracks. *wink* Last edited by NoMyths : 02-01-2003 at 07:14 PM. |

Well, I can't comment on todays musicians because the music is so crappy I rarely listen to it. But I am big into drumming and if you consider folks in their prime that I've heard there's only a few choices.
Jazz drumming - Buddy Rich, without a doubt the best drummer of the century, and that includes Krupa, Roach, etc. Rock drumming - Carl Palmer and Ginger Baker Tarkus |

I mean, c'mon. Everyone knows you can't have a band without an accordian. Or Weird Al, for that matter... SI

Vox: Dave Smalley (Dag Nasty, ALL, Down By Law)
Axe: Richard Dugay (Personality Crisis) 2nd Axe: Some other jerk, must have his own guitar, no rock gods allowed (only one per band). Better yet, no rythym guitarist at all - 1 axe. Bass: James Jamerson (bassist for almost every great Motown band) Drums: Jon Card (SNFU/DOA) Percussion: Our drummer can handle that shit thx anyway. Female backup singers: Serious? Horn Section: Local wino's - they are not actually allowed to play, they just sit in the horn section for the entire show. DJ: You want a different band, this band has no freakin' DJ. Keyboards &/or Guitar treatments: Um... Additional anything: Sorry, nope. |
