2017 Before Season
Expansion Draft: Top priority is to get some anchors for each unit. We lock down three veteran linemen who should start, a great blocking fullback, a veteran TE, and a few has been receivers. On defense, the main pickups are in the secondary with a tremendous intercepting CB. 20 Step Free Agency 1-10: One priority and one priority only: dominant QB. We see QB Vincent Snyder from Oakland is up for grabs and we put up the big money. A 6 year veteran, most of the developmental work has been done for us and we know it. He inks a megablockbuster 7 year deal for over 100 million dollars and will play out the rest of his career in Richmond. 20 step Free Agency 11-20: We look to solidify the offensive line, sending offers to C Everett Mahoney and G Grant Monroe. With a QB to lead the offense, we turn to 10 year star LB Edgar Snyder in hopes of acquiring a defensive field general. All three take our offers and we are set to go into the draft with a solid foundation of blocking plus quarterbacking on offense and a fierce secondary and middle linebacker on defense. Draft Needs: The primary concern right now is to get some help for QB Vincent Snyder. If we can get a good LT prospect, dominant runner, or a great wideout, it will be addressed in round one. Defensively, we need a run stopper at DT, some LB prospects, and heirs to the secondary at FS and Nickelback. Draft Report: 1(1) WR Cory Hanson - WOW. A 6'3" phenom with all kinds of mad skills across the board. Snyder to Hanson will be Richmond's Stockton to Malone for years to come. 2(1) LB Shaun Shea - A 6'5" monster from Moravian that hits big. Has the potential to become one of the heaviest hitters in the league and will likely step in and start at one of the outside spots. 3(1) CB Kirk Kimball - An absolute steal in the third round who has a nose for the ball and great football instincts. Should develop outstanding skills in all aspects of coverage and run support. 4(1) DT Steven Jimenez - Cat quick reflexes on a lean frame. Fierce pass rusher with good motor. 5(1) - RB Riddick McConnell - Somehow slipped into 5th round. We immediately pick him up. Decent receiving skills but great clutch runner who can pick up the extra yards. He will back up RB Duncan, but may start in a year. 6(1) P Jeffrey Delamielleure - Not the strongest leg, but knows how to hit the coffin corner and punt away from the return man. 7(1) DE Gary Strayhorn - A project who plays all out every down and shows good pursuit. May develop into a pass rush specialist. PreCamp: We get a trade offer for DE Toby Westfall from Jacksonville for a 3rd Round pick and we decline since Westfall is on a nice cheap 3 year deal with us and in all likelihood will start. Some of the players acquired during the expansion draft who have only one year remaining are renegotiated to longer deals: DT Paulin to a 3 year deal G Scherer to a 2 year deal CB Altman to a 4 year deal We enter camp with 55 players in tow (extra Offensive Guards) A trade offer comes in for FB Levon Richardson but we decline it (ATL 7th Rd) Rookie Report: 1(1) WR Hanson - Steady 2(1) LB Shea - Steady 3(1) CB Kimball - Steady 4(1) DT Jimenez - Steady 5(1) RB McConnell - Steady 6(1) P Delamielleuere - Bust 7(1) DE Strayhorn - Steady We have a good camp. 2017 Regular Season Schedule 77,600 Week 1 (0-0) vs. MINNESOTA VIKINGS W 19-14 With 1:22 left in regulation, the Vikings get the ball back at their own 31 yard line. QB Snyder and LB Snyder have both left the game with injuries. The defense holds for two incompletions and flushes out the Minnesota QB for a 4 yard scramble. With time running down, the Vikings fire onw last shot into the Knights' secondary only to have it batted away by CB Kimball. Richmond takes over on downs and wins their first game. Player of the game: RIC WR Cory Hanson WR Hanson 10-192 and 1 TD QB Snyder 18-28-0 for 255 Yards and 1 TD RB McConnell 22-96 but 0 TD Defense held MIN to 1 of 11 on Third Down and 45 yards Team Rushing Despite the scare we got when both field generals went down, the X-Rays turn up negative and a collective sigh of relief is felt among the Richmond faithful. QB "Sir Vincent" Snyder suffered only a minor bruise and will be at full strength for the next game while LB Edgar Snyder suffered a minor Hyperextended Elbow (0-2 Weeks). Snyder to Hanson proved as unstoppable as advertised against the Vikings defense, and both lines had a good showing against superior Vikings units up front. ----- Week 2 (1-0) vs. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS W 48-3 Sir Vincent proves his worth in the second quarter by hitting a 14 yard pass on fourth down to keep a drive alive deep inside New England territory and then firing off a 23 yard pass following a holding call to convert a third down inside the ten yard line. That set up a quick 5 yard rushing TD and a 14-0 lead before the half. Then with a golden opportunity after a fumbled punt return inside the two minute warning, Snyder to Hanson is unstoppable. Working against a Dime 3-Deep zone with Safeties backpedaling, Hanson makes the 29 yard grab down to the 5 yard line to set up a field goal. Player of the game: RIC QB Vincent Snyder QB Snyder 23-34-0 for 306 Yards and 3 TD WR Hanson 7-133 and 3 TD DE Strayhorn 10/0 Tackles The defense was dominant, allowing under 100 yards total offense until garbage time when the Patriots moved the ball for a late field goal against our reserves. Critics of the Knights point out that we've merely beaten up on last year's whipping boys (NED 6-10 and MIN 4-12 in 2016). Next week against perennial powerhouse Philadelphia should be a good test. We lose backup TE Claude Barker long term to a Broken Tibia (2-3 months long term). WR Young is put on the inactive list with a Sprained Neck (Qst). Fellow first year man WR Duffy is activated to take his spot. TE Barker is placed on IR and best available TE Shumaker (Rookie) is signed to a one year deal to take the roster spot. TE Shumaker goes in third string behind TE Wiegert and FB Olivares. ----- Week 3 (2-0) vs. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES W 34-3 The Knights are acquiring a notoriety for going for it on 4th down. Snyder again converted a huge 4th down by going to who else but Hanson for 19 yards to set up a go-ahead TD in the waning seconds of the first quarter. Eagles K Kelley had a rough first half missing one FG wide right and one FG wide left but found redemption by hitting a 50 yarder as halftime struck to make it 14-3. The defense dominates, and the Knights roll on. Philadelphia drops to (0-3) and the head scratching is starting in the NFC East. Player of the game: SS Tommy Perry (69 Yard TD INT return) QB Snyder 20-22-0 for 282 Yards and 2 TD WR Sawyer 8-152 but 0 TD LT Shearer 4-6 KRB, 0 SkA Defense held PHI to 40 Yards Team Rushing The naysayers have been silenced and critics of the seemingly ridiculous contract given to Snyder are nowhere to be found. Snyder showed extreme poise, looking off the double coverage on Hanson to find Sawyer for big gains all day. It seems the league has caught on to the dominance of Snyder to Hanson. Another week, another TE injured. This time starting TE Wiegert has a Bruised Ribcage (3-5 Wk). He will play third banana and we will start FB Olivares who played a great second half in Wiegert's place. QB Snyder now has a 126.6 rating and leads the league in yards, rating, YPA, and CompPct. WR Hanson has dropped into second behind TBY WR Spencer. ----- Week 4 (3-0) at New York Giants W 57-39 The game starts ugly with a 7 yard sack, but then RB MCConnell breaks it 87 yards behind RG Scherer on 2nd and 17 for the TD against a 4-Deep Nickel Defense. NYG K Quick misses two field goals and we get it back late in the first quarter. What else? Snyder to Hanson for the 50 yard bomb. Special teams comes up with a huge fumble recovery on a Giants punt return inside their 20. They think pass but we ram it down their throat four straight plays for the score. We get a pick at the Giants 31 after the kickoff and New York is reeling. By halftime it's 31-7 and the rout is on. Special teams is huge, giving us great field position and pinning them deep all second half. Then: Code:
We pound three downs and get it in on the third try to kill the New York comeback. Sometime in the late second quarter it turned into an ugly chuck and duck sackfest. We gave up a lot of passing yards, but that was probably due to the fact we were in Prevent for like the entire second half. Player of the game: RIC RB Riddick McConnell (Off. Player of the Week) RB McConnell 16-146 and 4 TD QB Snyder 13-27-0 for 215 Yards and 3 TD WR Hanson 6-143 and 1 TD Defense surrendered 29-54-2 Passing for 549 Yards but got 6 Sk, 2 INT, 3/2 Fumbles CB Altman and CB Corbett take modest 3-5 Wk injuries and we lose S Perry for 2-3 Months with a Torn Thumb Ligament. Of all the times to have a devastated secondary, this is the worst since we host the hated Redskins next week. WR Young is healed and is reactivated (WR Duffy goes on inactive). Backup S Broenkow is activated for S Perry, who is listed as Out Long Term. ----- Week 5 (4-0) vs. WASHINGTON REDSKINS W 17-14 QB Snyder kept a late drive alive in the 4th quarter with a 5 yard scramble on 4th and 1 in Redskins territory. The drive led to a go ahead Snyder to Hanson TD that was followed by an INT after the kickoff. QB Snyder is injured on the drive though, and is sent for examination. They manage a late drive to pull to 17-14 and get the ball back with 1:09 to go on their own 34. On the next play in Man-Bump Dime coverage, CB Bashford makes his third pick of the season to seal the deal. Player of the game: MLB Edgar Snyder WR Hanson 8-109 and 1 TD LB Snyder 12/0 Tackles, 1 Sk Defense had 4 Sk, 2 INT and 1/1 Fumbles. A sigh of relief as QB Vincent Snyder only has a minor injury (Broken Nose, 0-2 Wk) and can start against Carolina. more serious is an injury to CB Cassidy, who must undergo Arthroscopic Knee Surgery (2-3 Months). He goes on IR and we sign second year CB Corwin Whitney to a one year deal to fill the spot. Our secondary is in shambles at this point and it is a wonder that the defense is doing so well. ----- Week 6 (5-0) vs. CAROLINA PANTHERS L 23-26 Wow, some days you just can't win. Despite a great drive coast to coast from our own 2 yard line for a field goal, the game is an ugly 20-6 in Carolina's favor at the half. One INT return for TD and a fumbled kickoff gave them most of that but our injury riddled secondary can't handle their aerial attack. Even after knocking their starting QB out of the game we can't stop them. We are down but not out though. QB Snyder hits Hanson for a 52 yard bomb early in the 4th to bring it within reach at 23-16. Great kick coverage and defense gets us back the ball but we are nailed on a 3rd and 1 for a one yard loss. The coach decides to go for it in our own side of the field even though there is 10 minutes to go (WTF?!?!). RB Duncan gets the 2 yards and the drive is alive. Multiple Carolina penalties help us move to pin them with a punt. More penalties backs them up further and we get our first break in the game - a TD INT return by DE Westfall to tie it at 23 all. More great kick coverage and more Carolina penalties plus good defense forces them into a three and out at the two minute warning. Unfortunately we go three and out and they hit a long pass to get into field goal range. Then we get our second big break when backup DE Strayhorn recovers a fumble with 30 seconds left. Snyder to Hanson for 33 and we're back in business at the CAR 38. They help us with a 5 yard penalty but we miss wide left. On to OT... We win the toss but stall at midfield and punt to their 32. They stall at midfield and have to punt it right back. QB Snyder continues his bad day and throws his third INT of the day at our own 25. They hit the FG and win. Player of the game: CAR S Chuck Sanderson (INT return for TD) WR Hanson 8-186 and 1 TD Everyone else sucked. Not only is it Snyder's worst game of the year, but CB Altman's broken hand is made worse and he's now Out 2-3 Months. I am now convinced the computer is cheating... hehe. Snyder ends up with 4 INTs. Player of the game: NYG CB J.T. Stone (Def. Player of the Week) WR Sawyer 5-120 and 1 TD Everyone else sucked a monkey's nipple. We activate T Howe who was injured early in the year and put T Grover on the inactive list. Believe it or not, Miami is atop the AFC East via tiebreaker mania at (3-3). ----- Week 8 (5-2) at Miami Dolphins L 21-28 QB Snyder leaves the game in the second quarter and the first pass backup QB Hamilton throws is picked off and returned for a TD. At least we then get a break on a sack and take a fumble return for TD. The defense was dominating until the third quarter: Code:

We are really paying our dues after that 5-0 start... We come back with a quick strike TD and then get the ball with 3:33 in the game on our own 20. But Hamilton is picked off in the end zone right after the two minute warning and we're sunk. OR ARE WE? Code:
Bah Hamilton chumps it. Interception TD Returner of the game: MIA FS Jose Murray (Def. Player of the Week) WR Hanson 6-93 and 1 TD LB Snyder 10/3 Tackles QB Snyder only has a minor injury and should be able to start. The real problem is that our secondary is ridiculously thin at this point but CB Corbett seems fit to play now. Week 9 (5-3) vs. ARIZONA CARDINALS W 38-21 QB Snyder throws an INT leading to a TD to open the seond half. Minutes later, we sack their QB and return the loose ball for a TD. For some reason we only get fumble returns for TD and the opponents only get INT returns for TDs. Weird. Snyder finally comes up with some big plays and we go up 28-21. The defense holds on 4th and 1 and we get it back deep in Cardinals territory late in the 3rd quarter. We pound it down to the 10 but Snyder throws another pick! Argh! More of our DBs get injured and i'm beginning to wonder what happens when too many of your DBs in-game are unable to play. DE Strayhorn gets yet another fumble recovery on a QB mugging and QB Snyder finally does something right. We take a commanding 38-21 lead and coast the rest of the way. Player of the game: MLB Edgar Snyder LB Snyder 11/0 Tackles, 1 Sack DE Strayhorn 1.5 Sacks, 1 Hurry, 1 Fumble Recovery Lucky we have a bye week to heal. At this point in the season, WR Hanson has 1018 yards and 10 TDs in 9 starts. The Eagles are healthy and 6-3 headed into week 10. Philadelphia, Richmond, and Washington are all tied at 6-3 for the NFC East lead. Week 10 OPEN Week 11 (6-3) at Philadelphia Eagles L 13-19 WR Hanson gets hurt in the second quarter but we keep it close all game. 13-6 at the start of the 4th quarter, we drive the length of the field and punch it in to tie the game. They drive right back but fumble at our end and we recover. We go nowhere and they go nowhere and we end up in OT. Their kick pins us inside our own 5 and we're screwed. Nowhere to go, we punt and they drive for the TD. Player of the game: PHI QB Mitchell Brandon Luckily RB MCConnell and WR Hanson only sustained minor 0-2 Wk injuries. Lots of players are bitching for playing time now, but they are all going to get cut at the end of the season. Screw them. Week 12 (6-4) at Dallas Cowboys L 24-27 Okay, WTF. QB Snyder is injured on a Delay of Game penalty on the first play from scrimmage. I am pissed off. They break a 49 yard run to go up 7-0 and then score again to go up 14-0. Backup QB Hamilton rallies us back but he gets injured and our third string rookie roster filler Marks goes in! This sucks big time now but Marks completes the drive and we're in it 14-7. In the second half Marks is amazing. Despite some rookie mistakes, he stages a late game surge to get us to 24-21 at the 4 minute mark. We get the ball back at the 2 minute warning but then Marks shows he is a rookie and throws an INT. Somehow we stop them and kick a field goal to tie. Wow. They beat us in OT anyway though. Player of the game: DAL RB Tony Hughes This Good at Avoid Injury thing is starting to get annoying. ----- Week 13 (6-5) at Arizona Cardinals L 17-27 Player of the game: ARI WR Jake Daley We sink to new lows and lose to the (1-10) Cardinals. ----- Week 14 (6-6) at Greensboro Swamp Ducks W 37-21 I am so pissed off at how many injuries I have, i'm not even watching the games anymore this season. This is ridiculous. All I have to say is that Snyder finally has a good game. Interceptor of the game: CB Jack Bashford (2 INTs) WR Hanson 7-131 and 2 TD WR Sawyer 6-138 but 0 TD QB Snyder 19-28-0 for 311 Yards and 2 TD ----- Week 15 (7-6) vs. DALLAS COWBOYS L 6-31 Interception TD Returner of the game: DAL S Thomas Wampler WR Hanson 5-101 but 0 TD ----- Week 16 (7-7) at Manchester Ice Weasels W 31-14 Player of the game: WR Cory Hanson WR Hanson 9-161 but 0 TD Defense held MAN to 48 yards Team Rushing and 1 of 12 on Third Down ----- Week 17 (8-7) at Washington Redskins L 8-40 Okay I am going to watch this one against the hated Redskins. Wow... either the Redskins are real good or we really suck hard. Oh well. We get thrashed... haha. at least we inflicted a lot of injuries before they go to the playoffs. 2018 Before Season
Staff Hiring: Disgusted with the many injuries throughout the season, management decides to shake it up and hires Wally Cady to a 5 year deal. Cady, a 49 year old veteran head coach in the college ranks, is known for his ability to inspire fierce play from his defenses. Cady has experience as a linebackers coach and a defensive backs coach at the NFL level and also served as a defensive coordinator at various levels. Scout Wesley harper and his team are retained for the final year of their contracts. Fiscal Report: The team took a huge hit in its first season, although that was to be expected. We hope continued success of the team will draw more public support in conjunction with the Fans First program. As part of the program, the franchise advertises itself as the best deal in town, with tickets at half the price of the Washington Redskins or the Baltimore Ravens at all levels. Value report: 24-59-69-61 20 Step Free Agency 1-10: The team decides not to franchise any of our free agents and looks to the coming bid wars of free agency. Denver offers us 6(19) for starting C Everett Mahoney and we decline. The first order of business is to get some better run blocking to key some kind of ground game. With several great OT in the pool, we decide to pursue one. TBY makes an unusually strong offer to NYG T McReynolds and takes him out of the division. We make a great offer to T Maurer from the Cowboys, hoping to damage them and bolster ourselves at the same time. He takes our 4 year 35.88 million dollar deal in week 6 over about 5 other competitors. The Cowboys are furious and we laugh at them. 20 step Free Agency 11-20: We are mostly thinking about getting our own guys re-signed, especially S Bashford, who we get back on a three year deal. Late in the period we see WR Emmaneul Weydahl available from Miami. Apparently they don't have the cap room to sign him and neither does anyone else - so we pick him up for 4 million a year and a 2 million bonus for three seasons. He will make a nice veteran target opposite WR Hanson. Other re-signees are both our 2nd year OTs and backup QB Kuhn. Another guy brought back on board for three years is G Watanabe. Our line looks fairly stable now and QB Snyder should have a better selection of targets after this draft. Draft Needs: First order of business is to get a dominant TE. We want to have that key mismatch always in our favor, so a pass catcher in rounds two or three is a top priority. The second big need is a third linebacker. With LB snyder in the middle and 2nd year LB Shea at one outside spot, we need a third man to complete the unit. And, although we are covered at the corners, we lack a dominant FS. This is something that needs to be addressed. On the wish list is also a punter, since last year's pick didn't work out as well as we hoped. If one is available, a great run blocking G would be nice. DT Jimenez, last year's 2(1), is renegotiated at this point to a 4 year deal. FB Richardson is also renegotiated to a three year deal. Backup QB Hamilton is signed to a 5 year deal and will provide stability at that position. Several expensive and unreasonable veterans are given their waivers to free cap space. Draft Report: 1(16) RB Riddick Bishop - We look at the draft board for our need positions and hit a RB who is just amazing. We cannot pass this guy up. Size, speed, and power all in one. 2(16) LB Nathan Lee - With three good LB prospects left on the board, we go after the run stopper instead of the pass rushers. Our LB corps should be one of the best in a few years. 3(16) G Floyd Castillo - Not as much drive blocking power as we'd like, but has great feet and shows potential to be an outstanding pass protector. 4(16) C Howard Cote - Just seems too good to pass up. Cut from a similar mold from Castillo. 5(16) - TE Gus Chan - Out of options in a TE poor draft, we go with the best available one. Has decent potentials across the board, but not nearly the All-Pro prospect we were hoping for. Maybe next year. 6(16) FB Hunter Garner - A fabulous player in crunch time with great hands. He will be a valuable swing player who can backup at both FB and TE with such good pass catching skills. 7(16) G Ed Mathews - Yet another reach in hopes we can get our man at RG. PreCamp: We get a trade offer for T Maurer from BAL for a 2 pick and a DT but we decline. DAL sends us a trade for LB Snyder but it is declined without even consideration. We renegotiate: S Perry to a 3 year deal LB Billingsley to a 3 year deal WR3 Young to a 3 year deal WR Botkin to a 3 year deal TE Wiegert renegotiates his one year deal down We enter camp with 52 Players because UFAs are eating up slots. A trade comes in from CHI 4 Pick for TE Chan and we decline. A trade comes in from CIN 6 Pick and throwaway T for DE Westfall and we decline. 77,600 Week 1 (0-0) at Philadelphia Eagles W 28-24 QB Snyder is picked early near midfield but the defense holds and we only give up a FG. WR Weydahl is paying off immediately with huge catches. CB2 Corbett picks one off near midfield and we punch it in. Weydahl turns out to be a much bigger acquisition than we anticipated - he draws double teams and frees up WR Hanson for one on one matchups and we always win Snyder to Hanson vs. one DB. Our punting units are spectacular in the second half, both pinning them deep and getting us in great field position on returns. They hit a 40 yard bomb late to go up 24-21 with under 1:30 to play. QB Snyder goes downtown to move us to their end in two strikes. With Hanson out with injury from the mid 4th Quarter, Weydahl steps up as the man and sets up a RB Trudeau 19 yard TD run (Both our other RBs are injured too at this point). QB Snyder is sacked twice and we go for it on 4th and 19 (WTF!?!?!). WR Hanson can only get to the 8 and we lose it on downs. We hold and get it back after a punt to the CIN 41. Again we get stopped and have to settle for a FG. They take the next kick and drive for a TD. We fumble and they convert on 4th down to keep a drive alive, punching it in to go up 17-6. At this point, we aren't moving the ball well and they seem to be able to throw at will. A FG and TD following a QB Snyder pick and it's 27-6. Snyder is picked again for a TD return and it's just ugly. Interception Return for TD of the game: CIN S Gilbert Ogden The doctors finally clear our first round pick to play. He will start against Portland. Looking at the league injury report, the White Sturgeon are battered and are probably fielding only 75% of their starters. ----- Week 3 (1-1) PORTLAND WHITE STURGEON W 20-17 RB Bishop does not disappoint in his home debut with a 63 yard scamper just 1 and a half minutes into the game. He pounds them all day long and our passing attack clicks fairly well. They hit a bomb for TD and make some passing plays, so we may have to shake up our secondary. All in all, a good game from all units. We win with a late field goal. Player of the game: RIC RB Riddick Bishop RB Bishop 20-181 and 2 TD, 1-12 Receiving WR Hanson 7-116 but no TD Defense held POR to 3 of 12 on 3rd Down We decide to mix it up in the secondary and start CB3 Altman at FS. His job will be to roam and make interceptions. We will test this 3 cornerback setup for a game or two and re-evaluate. ----- Week 4 (2-1) vs. CAROLINA PANTHERS W 45-17 The experiment pays off early with an interception by CB Altman on the Panthers' second drive. Unfortunately QB Snyder gives itright back and they score. We score but they torch us with an 80 yard bomb to come right back. Wow, we are stopped with like 30 seconds left in the half and kick a field goal. On their first play after kickoff, CB2 Corbett picks a pass and returns it for a TD. We come out on fire after halftime - they come out and get hurt. The number of injuries in the game is amazing on the Carolina side and we even knock their QB out of the game. We hope to take advantage of this. The defense and punting is great in the first half, making big plays and getting us good field position. The Redskins can't stop QB Snyder and we move the ball well. They get a pick inside our 20 before the half but the defense holds them to a FG. I am amazed at how much DT Jimenez means to our run defense. He seems to be in on almost every run play. They tie it at 10 all, but we get a big break after punting out of our own end when their PR fumbles the ball at midfield in the 4th Quarter. We go backwards and punt but the experiment pays off again. CB Altman steps in front of a WAS QB Saenz pass and goes 41 yards for the score. They punt to our 5 but QB Snyder nails a 51 yard bomb to WR Weydahl to get us out of trouble. At the two minute mark, CB Altman again grabs an INT and seals the deal. Pass Interceptor of the game: RIC CB Kurt Altman QB Snyder 20-35-1 for 302 Yards but 0 TDs P DeLamielleure 1-1 FG (A 35 yarder... Our K got injured!) We are now averaging about a 6 minute time of possession advantage over opponents. This win on the road at FedEx Field over the defending champs was sweet and puts us in sole possession of first place in the NFC East. ----- Week 7 (4-1) vs. NEW YORK GIANTS W 22-17 RB Bishop keeps slipping and we can't get anything going on the ground. They get a fumble return for TD on a kickoff (they fumble, they recover, the second guy runs it in) but we get a INT return for TD by LB Snyder for 83 yards. We then get another break when DE Strayhorn recovers a fumble at their 20 with 12 seconds in the half. We don't take a shot (damn) and settle on 3. Neither offense can run the ball and it turns into passing vs. passing. About half of all running plays are for negative yardage for both teams. Eh? We block a 53 yard FG attempt even though I zero it out in training camp. Interception for TD Returner of the game: RIC LB Edgar Snyder WR Hanson 8-123 and 1 TD LB snyder 7/1 Tackles and 1 INT Detroit is majorly screwed with all kinds of big injuries to starters. ----- Week 8 (5-1) vs. DETROIT LIONS W 28-14 We inflict tons of injuries and they can't stop our offense. After a great 50 yard return to open the second half, the DET returner coughs up the ball and we get it. It is absolute domination when RB Bishop makes it 21-7 on a 40 yard run. CB Altman gets another INT, again in Dime 4-Deep Pass-Aggressive coverage. I think there's something to this. Player of the game: RIC RB Riddick Bishop RB Bishop 29-189 and 3 TDs WR Weydahl 9-97 and 1 TD WR Hanson took a bad hit in garbage time and is sidelined with a Sprained Neck (Dbt). ----- Week 9 (6-1) at Arizona Cardinals L 15-16 After marching the length of the field, the Cardinals fail on 4th and 1 from our 2 yard line and we hold. I am impressed. We have to punt and they fumble the return - the football gods are loading the dice for us. We are playing well, but QB Snyder is injured near the two minute warning in the first half. They get a 70 yard TD punt return to go ahead 10-3 at the half. In the third quarter, RB Bishop goes down, leaving backup QB Hamilton, backup RB MCCaonnell, and WR Weydahl to lead us back. They come through and the defense holds back Arizona. Then ARI misses a chip shot 24 yard FG but get the ball back and drive for a TD. We lose a heartbreaker but the big concern has to be the injuries. Player of the game: ARI WR Lamar Gaylor All injuries are minor, but we will sit QB Snyder since QB hamilton is bitchy and 1 week should get QB Snyder back to full health. WR Hanson will remain on inactive and hopefully we have enough firepower until both of them return. ----- Week 10 (6-2) at Cleveland Browns L 7-29 QB Hamilton is ineffective the whole first half and our only highlights are an INT by CB Altman and a fumble recovery on a sack by LB Snyder. Hamilton is still ineffective in the second half and tosses a pick leading to a CLE TD. We knock their QB out of the game to even it up a bit and RB Bishop tries to take over the game. We fumble a bucnh of times and give the Browns free points. The loss is disappointing in all aspects. Player of the game: CLE LDE Malcolm Kelley ----- Week 11 (6-3) at Jacksonville Jaguars L 24-27 DT Jimenez is injured and our offense can't go anywhere. We just can't seem to win. They hit a 40 yard FG as time expires to beat us. Player of the game: JAX QB Walt Johnston We start the home stretch of 6 straight NFC East games and must win 4 to clinch a playoff spot. ----- Week 12 (6-4) vs. ARIZONA CARDINALS L 17-29 We start badly and then get our ground game going and knock their QB out of the game. We are getting pounded on field position and special teams and they score two TDs off field position. We finally get a break in the third quarter when SS Franz runs back an INT for a TD. We manage to tie it up 17-17 in the fourth quarter but they drive for a TD and we can't respond. Even after a 43 yard bomb, we can't capitalize. Very Good at Avoid Injury - sheyah right. Luckily Dallas is more beat up than we are. ----- Week 13 (6-5) DALLAS COWBOYS W 24-21 FINALLY we win again. QB Snyder hits WR Hanson on a 51 yard bomb with 3 seconds in regulation to get the win. We really shouldn't need to win like that. Player of the game: RIC RB Riddick Bishop (Off. Player of the Week) RB Bishop 18-234 and 2 TD (13.0 YPC) WR Hanson 4-100 and 1 TD ----- Week 14 (7-5) at New York Giants L 10-17 Damn, even when we get a fumble recovery, we turn it back over. The defense plays a stellar game, making up for an incompetent offense. QB Snyder throws a pick with a minute to go and we're done. Player of the Game: NYG S Marc Copeland DT Jimenez is done for the year with a serious injury. I think that just about kills our playoff hopes. ----- Week 15 (7-6) vs. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES W 24-21 RB Bishop breaks a huge 76 yard TD run on the final play of the first half and is really putting on a show in a must-win game. He takes over the game and wills us to a victory. Player of the game: RB Riddick Bishop RB Bishop 20-158 and 3 TDs C Mahoney 4 of 7 KRB and 0 SkA ----- Week 16 (8-6) at Dallas Cowboys L 14-44 We self destruct on their opening drive but make a goal line stand to hold to a FG. They move at will against us despite numerous injuries. As more Dallas players drop, I am hoping we will have more success. QB Snyder throws a bad INT and I am dumbfounded at the way they're destroying despite the injuries. Player of the game: DAL QB Archie Norris (Off. Staff Hiring: We change scout team and hire Scott Kendall, who is great at evaluating QB and DB prospects but not much else. At least he is cheap. Fiscal Report: Still middle of the pack here, 25-59-73-62. We cut our losses in half from 2017 to 2018 and look to turn a profit this season. 20 Step Free Agency 1-10: We have huge turnover in our roster, with only RB McConnell wanted back (he gets the tag). Of 53 players, we will only keep the 32 under contract and McConnell to make it 33. There is some huge rebuilding to be done. Trade offers come in for LB Snyder, C Mahoney, and G Castillo - all are declined. We will vulture and see who is available later in the FA period with no offers. Nobody seems worth going after and we don't bother. 20 step Free Agency 11-20: Man, this pool is very thin. Draft Needs: Defensive Line all the way. Both of our top two picks will likely be used on defensive line. Rounds three and four must be used on some offensive line talent. Somewhere along the line we must get a better punter and kicker - last season's special teams play was too erratic. A trade offer for LB Snyder is declined without consideration. G Ed Mathews is renegotiated to a 3 year deal. DT Emmanuel Saywer is signed to a three year deal. FB Hunter Garner is renegotiated to a two year deal. T Bryan Shearer is renegotiated to a four year deal. LB Egar Snyder is renegotiated to a three year deal. Draft Report: Ugh. No good DL by the time I pick. The S prospects are awesome though. 1(20) S Levon Elizondo - Should be instant starter. Since scout has Excellent in Secondary, this should be accurate. 2(20) DT Matt Messenger - Average all around, but at least better than what we had before. 3(20) P Joseph Cash - Great all around and will take over immediately. 4(20) DT Paul Blair - Might be a gem, might be bad scouting. 5(20) DT Roosevelt Gaines - See Blair. 6(20) K Kennedy Harvey - Average, but better than what we had, especially on kickoffs. 7(20) TE Amos Patton - The search for a TE continues. As can be noted by my 2019 Regular Season post, I am doing things faster and writing less so I can actually make some progress... heh.
2020 Before Season Staff Hiring: No changes. Fiscal Report: Still middle of the pack here, 28-60-80-51. Losses are down to 18 million and dropping... maybe we finally turn a profit. We offer a huge 66 million dollar 5 year deal to R.J. Carico of the Raiders and he takes it in Week 8. 20 Step Free Agency 1-10: Nobody is tagworthy... we go into the first half of FA and reject a trade offer for FB Garner (7th round pick yeah right). We really need a dominant CB to play opposite CB Kimball and also so we can dump that 15 million dollar CB Corbett. 20 step Free Agency 11-20: We grab All-World caliber P Lawrence Schroeder, G Jermaine Walters, and DE Pete Van Winkle. Draft Needs: DE is now priority one. I only have Van Winkle on the roster! We need to pick up at least two decent DE prospects. Another priority is to pick up a good T and maybe a good S. Draft Report: Ugh. No good DL by the time I pick. The S prospects are awesome though. 1(35) DE Tim Mendelssohn - Has good potentials, especially as a run stopper. Too bad DEs aren't that important in run defense. Still, every little bit helps. 2(35) T Kyle Sanderson - Great potentials in all places. We take some bad injuries during the year and finish (10-6). Our reward for beating the showdown of (9-7) NFC East teams in Week 17 is that we get to be the home team in the Wild Card round. Despite our depleted LB corps, we eke out a win in the WC round only to get edged out by SFO in the Divisionals. Miami beats the Pack in the Super Bowl. Our only All-Pros are three linemen, including our rookie G Billy Joe. He looks like he'll be a fixture for some time. We will have major problems in 2023 because all three of our good RBs are in their last year of contract so we'll have to choose one and run with him. Luckily we have next year's backup locked in from the 2022 draft. We have been getting a good run of 3rd and 4th round RBs lately. Also, we will finally be able to renegotiate QB Snyder in 2023, which should help our cap situation further. We lead the league in rushing offense again and have a decent passing offense. The problem is that our run defense lagged due to the LB injuries and we drop out of the top ten there. Staff Hiring: We bring in a new scout, Bernie Gillespie. He is great at almost all offensive positions but just mediocre on defense. Fiscal Report: Franchise Value is 28-100-99-55, so it's just the stadium and local economy dragging us down. Profitability is in the tank with a 40 million dollar loss last season. We jack up the prices after having given the city 7 long years of bargain tickets. We have 100 fan loyalty and the city is willing to take the price hike (which is now in line with the Redskins). The cheap seats, however, are kept at 50% of Washington prices. 20 Step Free Agency 1-10: We tag T Maurer and move into FA having to get back T Sanderson, LB Gibson, and S Skeen. Trade offers for LB Shea and WR Hanson are declined. Our 1-10 steal is LB Stiels from Indianapolis. Our three year deal is more acceptable than Baltimore'ss 4 year deal and we have our LB core in place with Gibson, Stiles, and Shea. We should be solid up front on defense like never before. LB Gibson signs a 3 year deal in week 7. S Skeen signs a 3 year deal in week 9. 20 step Free Agency 11-20: We sign T Oliver Dayne and T Jamie McWilliams for this step. Wow, we send numerous veterans packing to recoup cap space. I feel a big cohesion hit coming on. Time to lock in our valued veterans before the draft. Pretty much our entire secondary is renegotiated this year. CB RJ Carrico is signed to a 4 year deal. LB Shea is signed to a 3 year deal. K Sims is signed to a 3 year deal. C Wolfe is signed to a 4 year deal. FB Fletcher is signed to a 3 year deal. CB Kimball signs a 4 year deal. S Elizondo signs a 3 year deal. T Maurer signs a 3 year deal. Draft Report: 1(34) DE Bill Waite - Man we are going to have one dominant defensive front. 2(34) DT Joe Woodson - Massive runstopper who will be our future in the middle if Jimenez leaves. 3(34) CB Conrad Sharper - Ballhawk who has good cover potentials. Will step in when the old men leave. 4(34) QB Emmitt Bivins - Give it up for Bell Biv Devoe. If we didn't have so many fine RBs, i'd draft one here. 5(34) RB Graham Stidham - Woot, no needs so we go with a redline special. 6(34) C Jeff Clark - We need a backup and this guy is decent. 7(34) TE Kenyon Prater - We need a backup. PreCamp: LB Brandon signs a 3 year deal. Postcamp trades for just about all our stars are declined. Woohoo 5(34) RB Stidham is a breakout redliner, but not excessive. Maybe about as much as our last redliner was. I think round 5 might be where redline specials need to be taken to ensure you get some time to renegotiate them. All our DL picks are slightly improved after camp.

Staff Hiring: No Changes. Fiscal Report: Franchise Value is 36-100-99-57, so it's just the stadium and local economy dragging us down. Profitability is looking better now that we're soaking the rich fans - only a 4 million dollar loss. 20 Step Free Agency 1-10: We tag WR Randall Knight, our 3rd year redline breakout. A trade comes in for Snyder, offering a has-been LB and 2(9). We take it and decide to go full throttle in getting a top QB in free agency. One guy we will want to re-sign if nobody goes nuts on him is our backup QB Kennedy, who is now a free agent. We get QB Bryant Upshaw from the Giants in a 5 year deal. He is fantabulous at accuracy, passing, third down passing, medium and screen passes. We are ultra-satisfied that he can fit into our scheme and produce superb numbers. 20 step Free Agency 11-20: Our 17 year P is swiped but we grab a very respectable 8th year man from the bungles - P Rodney Douglas, for a three year deal. We are offered the 1(2) for RB Rubinstein but don't have the cap room and decline it. A terrible offer for FB Levine is turned down as well. Draft Needs: Number one mission is to get a solid T in round one for a long term deal. We desperately need a major player at OT now that all our old vets are gone. We have depth but no stars. A better backup S might be worth taking as well, since our current backup is leeching 3 million and does not have 3 million dollar stats. Draft Report: 1(36) T Moe Meyer - Solid prospect who can step in and start. Above average potential in all areas. 2(9) DT Desmond Ellard - Looks like a winner. He can start immediately and will allow us to unload an expensive veteran who isn't playing up to snuff. 2(36) LB Orlando self - Potentials in all areas but is more of a pass rusher than a hitter. Possible OLB. 3(36) CB Winfred Dunlap - Solid across the board, he could take over in a couple of years. 4(36) TE C.J. Pierce - Good potentials in both catching and blocking. Might give us the two TE tandem I like. 5(36) RB Dominic Ramsey - Woot, no needs so we go with a redline special. 6(36) S Joey Reese - A project who could be spectacular... or not. 7(36) DE Stephen Belt - Terrible, but we need a fourth DE. PreCamp: We get two intriguing trade offers. One is for LB Stiles and offers us a quality DE plus 5th rounder. Since our LB corps is immensely deep at this point, we take it. The trade frees up tons of cap space because we had Stiles on a 7 million dollar salary. The second of the interesting trades is RB Rubinstein for next year's 1st rounder and a backup quality DT from TBY. We won't re-sign Rubinstein next season anyway so this is certainly worth it and in the process cuts us back to 4 RBs. We are totally out of cap room and have two extra DTs. 10 million dollar man Jimenez is given his leave and DT Grange is cut loose (he came in the rubinstein trade) and free 7 million more. We now have the room to re-sign WR Knight to a halfway decent multiyear deal. WR Knight signs a 4 year deal. DT Blair signs a 4 year deal. TE Banks signs a 3 year deal. FB Levine signs a 3 year deal. RB Ogunleye signs a 4 year deal. We get tons of trade offers and decline all. 1(36) Meyer is a huge bust. We are pretty screwed now and next season are going to have to look again for a T.

Talk about prime time players - S Harris Skeen. The guy is now a two time Super Bowl MVP: 2024 Super Bowl vs. Denver: 2/2 Tackles, 2 INT 2025 Super Bowl vs. Baltimore: 6/1 Tackles, 2 INT In the 2025 bowl, Skeen's picks really saved the bacon and gave our punting unit a chance to repeatedly pin the Ravens. We came back from a 21-0 deficit in the second quarter mostly keyed by a great rushing perfomance from new franchise back RB Ogunleye who went 19-99 (5.2 YPC) and 1 TD. He also caught 3 passes for 55 yards. WR3 Knight, who signed a big 4 year contract before the season, came in for an injured WR Hanson in the second quarter and played magnificently. Knight's line was 10-158 but no TDs. Although not the total shutown we had against Denver, we again faced the 1st Team All-Pro QB (Nelson) and made him look average: 16-33-2 for 243 yards. Again, we are doing it with defense: 2024 Ranks: Rushing 2nd, Passing 4th 2025 Ranks: Rushing 5th, Passing 4th +19 TO margin (Tied for 1st) Meanwhile our offensive output dropped us to 9th in Rushing and 14th in Passing. Not that good, but good enough. Miscellaneous players were injured throughout the year including new franchise QB Upshaw. Bivins ran the show for almost one fourth of the season and played very well. Halfway through the season I was kind of ticked because QB Snyder (we cut him) was actually having a good year with the Jets and our LB corps got injured like crazy in the middle of the season (lots of 3-5 Wk Dbt injuries) and we were operating on 4 LBs for quite a while (one injured one hidden at LILB since I run 4-3). Stiles would have helped out a LOT, but somehow we got through it.

We take a guy who looks like he could be a big time runner. 1(36) WR Billy Joe Hammond - I have a feeling we're not getting WR Chandler back next year so I take a replacement #2 wideout. 2(36) LB Jon Shields - A punishing tackler who will take over for Snyder in the middle in a few years. 3(36) G Kenyon George - Classic pulling guard who can drive block well. 4(36) FB Burt Holliday - All-Universe potential. 5(21) CB Martin Brady - Great potentials in coverage coupled with decent endurance and interceptions. 5(36) TE Steve Wiggins - All around abilities, should allow us more TE depth than ever. 6(36) RB Jesse Zimmerman - Good late round find who gives depth and lets us cut last year's redliner. 7(36) DT Ryan Hernandez - Decent run stopping potential actually. Arizona rolled to the Lombardi Trophy. Man, they were just way too good for the rest of the league. Three of our 5 losses on the year were to Arizona, showing just how good they were. I took a look at their roster and guess what I found? Basically a copy of my team with a more experienced QB, slightly better DEs and slightly better TEs but worse WRs and not as good an RB. Otherwise, very similar. Their defense in particular was awesome. RB Cerasani was 2nd Team All-Pro and Offensive Rookie of the Year. He will definitely be a star.
