What happens to recruits who don't commit and don't enter the NBA draft?

I was recruiting a four star player all season. I was leading with Connecticut close behind. He never committed. Does he walk on? Commit secretly?

There is a chance he didn't qualify academically, though his interest would have dropped to "None", so you probably would've noticed.

I think he just walks on somewhere when they "disappear".
