March Madness Starting Five (2017)
PAST WINNERS
Season 1 (Starting Eight) (2012) Winner: Britrock88 (3816 pts.) (MOV: 52 pts.) Season 2 (2013) Winner: Britrock88 (5449 pts.) (MOV: 74 pts.) Season 3 (2014) Winner: Ramzavail (5998 pts.) (MOV: 261 pts.) Season 4 (2015) Winner: Billy Madison (5022 pts.) (MOV: 32 pts.) Season 5 (Starting Ten) (2016) Winner: Britrock88 (7557 pts.) (MOV: 46 pts.) This year's rules are slightly different: 1A. You pick a roster of any 6 players from the NCAA tournament field. 1B. One of your 6 players has to be designated as your Powerball (bench) guy. Your bench player gets added to your team in the round after you go under 5 players. (e.g. in the first round you lose 3 guys, in the 2nd round, your bench guy gets added to your roster and starts scoring points for you.) 2. You score as many points as each of your drafted players scores in the NCAA tournament. 3. You get a multiplier for the seed of his team. (i.e. if Jordan Washington of 14th seeded Iona scores 18 points, you would earn 252 points.) 4. "First Four"/play-in round games do not count towards the players point total. 5. Deadline is tip-off of the first games on Thursday. 6. There's a multiplier to each round the player scores points in. Quote:
There is no draft, you just pick a roster of 6 players that you want. Make any changes you want up through the deadline, any edits after that will not be counted. Make sure to indicate your bench guy or else, I'm going to assume that the 6th guy you list is automatically the Powerball. EXAMPLE ROSTER: Quote:

I wasn't going to bring this back, but I decided it's too much fun not to try. We're going to pair the number of players you get to choose to just 5 (with a bench player #6) just to make keeping track of things easier (and hopefully to encourage people to pick different players.)
If there's not enough interest, then that's fine, we won't do it. But given this isn't a draft game, just a pick your roster game, it should be relatively easy to load up a squad if you're already picking teams for brackets anyway. So....even if you're gonna wait until Thursday to pick your team, just indicate interest so I know if we're even doing it. Holla, etc. |

I didn't want to step on your toes here but I have one gong on reddit also at /r/spotsbook. I probably should have started it here but I thought you were going to.

Damn! #RESPECT I'd still run a FOFC-only game if people want one. But I might join yours over at reddit too. Love that you ported it elsewhere.

I color coded this year just to make things easier on the right if anyone wonders. Grey was a player not taken out of 59 teams. Red is dead. |

I had to redo the scoresheet because the reddit game doesn't play with a Powerball, but we should be all set now.

I went for it all with the powerball guy and was down to him or Semi as I wanted that 12* second round game and took Creighton instead. Either way I was wrong. |

Third column is players remaining, correct? Are we sure it is calculating correctly?

There was an error. I fixed it. Powerball not counted in the total players remaining. So it's n + powerball if you have one. Code:

Cool, I couldn't figure out where the error was at a glance. Thanks, by the way, for running this - it's one of my favorite annual games

Henry clearly in the drivers seat with 4 players and a powerball left, should be able to make up that 750+ point deficit in the next few rounds.
Code:
murrayyy, jbergey, chief rum and wade all without a powerball now. |

Henry and I both have Bluiett, so that offsets. So he needs Malik Monk, TJ Leaf and Dillon Brooks to make up about a 400+ deficit. And that's minus whatever I can get from Baylor's Motley for as long as they last (he's my powerball.)
SCORES AFTER 3/23 Code:

Henry has nearly caught me, my only hope was that Oregon would've lost the other night and that'd have secured victory for me. No one has a Powerball left. Another close finish is likely, which is really all I care about with this game.

Final scores from the starting 10 we had @ Reddit. Brit finished 2nd and I finished 3rd. Should have installed the powerball!

138 was the final margin of victory. Congrats to henry on the victory and thanks to everyone for playing again this year on short notice even.

If you only knew where my named ended up because of that subreddit. At one time I know my name was floated around some Croatian news site because of my NBA gambling for a while. Some one kept asking me questions and I didn't realize it was them interviewing me for an article. |
