2016 Golf Majors Thread

Don't think we have a 2016 golf thread, feel free to move this if there is one.

Well Dustin Johnson had to survive controversy again, but this time it didn't cost him a major. That shot on 18 to the green has to be the best shot he has ever hit. So happy for him after what happened last year.

No, it still is. She is quite well known and appreciated for her beauty. Remember, Wayne married a hot Hollywood actress when he came to town.

Given his history in majors, it was really nice to see him make a big time shot to put the tournament away.

Not a major, but Jim Furyk shot a 58 today to set a PGA tournament record for low round. The amazing thing is that he barely made the cut. Talk about a turnaround!

missed a short putt or it could have been 57. Pretty crazy for a guy coming off surgery not that long ago.

I know I must be missing something obvious, but why doesn't anyone mention that this was on a Par 70 course? Doesn't that make the feat 2 strokes easier to accomplish than most Par 71 or Par 72 courses?

I don't know if it takes anything way since its very difficult to get below 60 on any course, regardless of Par...otherwise, we would have a lot more people in the records book besides (7) people.

Six people had previously shot 59 on various courses.....
(3) on a Par 72 course
(2) on a Par 71 course
(1) on a Par 70 course

Now Jim with a 58 on a Par 70.

It's generally hard to compare against courses using only score under par, but on a par 70, you are also less likely to have extra par 5s which means fewer eagle opportunities. The best players can average about a half stroke under on a par 5 while they tend to fall just under par on 3s and 4s.

I'm sure somewhere there is a ranking of best rounds when taking into account slope rating and such, but Sly's point is also valid.

So during practice today for the Ryder Cup, Rory McIlroy missed a putt, and a guy in the crowd started heckling him hard. Justin Rose called him out and said he'd give the guy $100 if he could sink the putt. The guy took a putter, and sank it like a boss.

That was great. Now we see if this Task Force the US created for the Ryder Cup works or not.

US off to a great start, sweeping the opening four matches. Dustin Johnson/Matt Kuchar won 5 UP

Loved this. Just thought it was a cool moment for that guy, who came from Alaska of all places apparently.

They are off on Day 2 now, Europe had a nice recovery pretty much dominating three of the four matches to make it 5-3 after day 1.

US up by just a point now after the morning matches. Should have been more but Spieth/Reed blew a 4 UP lead against the Spanish team and were luck to get a half-point.

Even though he's on the wrong team for me, you can't help but be impressed with Patrick Reed. Playing amazingly well!

Yep he's been the star for the US team so far. Certainly hasn't been Jordan Spieth or Dustin Johnson. It looked a bit bleak for the US for a long while, but thanks to Lee Westwood developing the "yips" at absolutely the worst time, the US leads by 3 heading into the singles tomorrow.

US wins the Ryder Cup-looks to be by about 7. Davis Love and the Ryder Cup Committee breath a huge sigh of relief. Kinda glad Ryan Moore clinched it after being the last pick a week before the Cup.

Not a major, but you would have thought so given the number of reporters and the crowd that followed Tiger around the course today for the ProAm round. Geez.

It's really time for him to hang it up.

Meh, he's not the first sports legend to try to push it well past his prime. It's just hard to watch.

Dustin Johnson wins his third straight tournament, solidifies his #1 ranking. Masters in a couple weeks. Guess we will have to start the 2017 Golf Majors thread
