Yeah, this one is sort of surprising me. The Prestige is an outstanding movie and I really enjoyed it. I thought it would get a lot more support on this forum. With that said, Princess Bride is one of my favourites of all time and I agree it looks poised to make a good run. I'm also really glad to see Requiem for a Dream currently ahead of Kill Bill, although I think it won't last beyond next round.

Mostly this tournament has made me question the IMDB list. There are several rankings each round that I can't square with any methodology that would make sense.

A combination of ratings from RT and Metacritic, or even the inflation adjusted domestic box office at Box Office Mojo would probably produce rankings that make more sense. Even so, I'm already looking forward to how this thing goes down.

My only real issue with IMDB is all of the Bollywood movies that have made their way into it. Although with that said, I really haven't seen any of them so it's hard for me to judge. If I were to do it again, I might look at some sort of nomination process. In fact, I may run a TV tournament down the line when I do look at using such a procedure.

Other than that, I don't have any issues with IMDB. I wanted something that took almost no prep time. I could have probably come up with some sort of subjective method of combining scores from Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB and Meta Critic and taken into account the number of votes received, etc. The cost of this would have been a substantial amount of time. The IMDB seedings were already done and basically reflect the general public's rating of a movie. It also took me no time at all to set up the bracket.

I'm also not sold on the idea that any of the other sites produce a better list.

For a comparison, this is what the IMDB Top 10 (and the top 10 seeds for this tournament) looks like...

The Princess Bride is one of the most uniquely perfect comedies ever made.. A story so silly but with so much heart and charm and such a unique movie in general.. Nothing even remotely close to it will likely ever see the light of day again unless some indie director catches lightning in a bottle. Glad to see it is handily winning its matchup, even though The Prestige is just a flat out incredible movie in its own right.

You could make another Prestige today, but I don't think there will ever be another era like the 80's for film. Sometimes I wish hollywood was as coked out now as it was then, so we could see some actual insanity on the screen instead of so much pure drivel.

That's a you problem. Matrix was and still is a terrific scifi action film and the LOTR:TT was the best of the trilogy.
