Talking VC II Browns Reborn

2020, Coming off a disappointing 14-2 Superbowl runner up year, Darkiller achieved the following score:
Team Performance: 95
Franchise Value: 93
Profit/Loss: 65
Difficulty: 74
Overall: 83

One of our top scores of all time and in a non-championship season.

Welcome to the league:
NFC East Greensboro Generals
NFC Central Las Vegas Hitmen

Retirees:
CB Horace Shaw retires after a 14 year career, 13 with Miami, 1 with us.

After 12 seasons, all with the Browns, G Cory Corbett has retired.

Passing on a chance to play 20 years, legendary K Burt Milne retires after spending the last 7 years in brown while earning 2 2nd Team Kicker awards, he also earned 2 1st Team Kicker awards ealier in his career. He is the career record holder with 539 FGs, 38 in front of another former K, Raymond Gardner.

We currently have 38 players under contract and must decide on a franchise designee before the expansion draft.
We have 4 current starters up for FA, C Antoine Coleman, DE Jimmie Willis, LB Lenny Spano, and S Gerald Dunkelberger.

Dunkelberger gets the tag as we have a little more depth elsewhere. I might regret not locking up Willis after a huge year last season but his talent doesn't warrent it since we have others in waiting for a change.

We expose:
T Howie Hitchcock
DE Kelly Holmes
DE Dwight Meadows
DT Kenyon Wyse-Greensboro
S Gerald Stegeman

Onto FA...
Some renegotiations get us to $43,290,000 in cap room, let see if we can mold a champion.

Of the big 4 FAs, we retains Dunkleberger and Coleman, but Willis and Spano move on.
We do bring on a good veteran G, Phil Booker to help fill the void left by Corbett.

Bummed Spano moved on...and Willis was signed as a stud backup to Duncan and Copeland.

I'm guessing they were asking for a lot, though

I am going to go ahead and select my keeper:

LB Seth Gordon, my first pick in the 2018 draft.

Sad to see Corbett retire...hopefully Hansen is ready to step in...

Good luck this year!

Regarding the number of rounds :

I would say the best thing to do is for everyone to play their 2 seasons and then, i'll make sure to catch up with 3 seasons next time and then everything will be back to normal.

Good luck Royal !

Coach Paniagua had this to say about his troups:
"This team is still fuming from what happened last year, they know they were the best team in that game, the city of Cleveland knows they had the best team last year, and the entire NFL knows the Browns are the best team out there. Our job this year is to prove it, plain and simple."

Scout Johann: "I've overseen the scouting department almost since day one. I scouted the great Donnie Sheen, I brought in Lee Clark, Rico Rodriguez, and Robbie Jeffries. They're all great players. But this Wiese kid is one of the purest specimans of a football player that I have ever seen."

Preseason:
Browns go 4-0 in convincing fashion with wins of 27-17, 17-7, 51-7, 20-16. The most serious concern is a case of Turf Toe ailing Rico Rodriguez and the fact that Seth Gordon, despite being named a keeper and starting OLB is unhappy about his playing time.

Game 1 at Houston 4pt Favs
Rodriguez 16/58 1 TD
Clark 11/26 163 1/1
Gordon 11 Tackles
Duncan 2 Sacks
Weise .5 Sacks
14-13 Win

Game 2 at San Francisco(0-1) 4pt Favs
Rodriguez 17/107 2TD
Clark 22/36 356 3/2
Porter 6rec 100 2TD
Jeffries 5rec 153
Wheeler 12 Tackles 1 Int
Duncan 1.5 Sacks
Weise .5
41-35 Win

Game 3 vs Cincinatti(2-0) 5pt Fav
Rodriguez 10/92
Clark 16/41 241 0/1
Wheeler 15 Tackles
Hamilton 1 Sack
Foster hurt for 3-5 Weeks
6-19 Loss
The OL gave up 7 sacks in the game.

Game 4 at Baltimore(1-2) Even
Rodriguez is non-existant
Clark is 13/34 213 3 INTs
Gordon has 10 Tackles and a sack
We get hammered 10-24 in this Loss.

At 2-2, the Browns look like they are lost on the football field. Guard Duane Hanson just dislocated his shoulder but the depth at Guard will help there.

Clark thus far is 62/137 45.2% 981yds 4/7 58.0 Simply PITIFUL. We need to turn this ship and FAST.

Good draft. The #1 seems awesome and the next few picks way above average for their rounds. Our depth is still fantastic.

I'm not as worried as you are, Royal. Lee and Rico each have actually had only one putrid outings so far. When they get into gear, we are fully capable of running off an 8-10 game winning streak.

Very happy to get the VC rolling again, and salivating for my turn.

When you do send the file on, please send a copy to [email protected]. Thanks.

Holy Christ.

Could our defense BE any better? At least on paper anyway...

I have found that I usually get my most sacks if I change my Blitz % from 50 to 60 (and back) every 3 games - and I usually keep my run and pass defense at 50...anyone else go this route?

I really wanted to get a back up for Rico in the draft but there wasn't any talent there and Wiese is just a monster, I don't have the file in front of me but he looks somewhat like this:
63/100
65/100
98
How could I not move up to draft him? I'm also starting him despite him not having quite the talent of Copeland, I can't wait to see this kids career.

Free Agency really bummed me out, as I really wanted to keep Spano and I lost out on FA Kickers and Punters and now we have scrubs there, my only real acquisition was at a position of extreme depth, Guard.

Our defense is making plays but our offense isn't. I don't usually do much of anything to the game plan, but I might have to.

I'm less worried about Rico(despite him being our worst starter according to the scout) as I am about Clark. Rico was battling a case of turf toe and still put up respectable numbers, Clark has had one ok game, 2 bad games, and one horrible game. He needs to step up and shake the feeling that he is a Jeff George type of QB.

I always viewed Rico as the best available back - not as our franchise guy. Like Donnie (blasphemy ?) he's up and down, but his ups aren't nearly as high.

I had a better feeling about Lee...

I was never sold on Donnie either, and I drafted him! His final production though is all that matters and he was a stud. Rico is doing the same.

Clark's career rating is in the low 80's and is still not doing what he should and he is in his 8th season. I expect more out of him too, that is why I am comparing him to George, high expectations with the huge talent, he just isn't the leader that Davies was. Hopefully he can turn it around against Tennessee in the next game.

I agree. Lee needs to have a few 32-8 TD/INT seasons or he won't make out HOF, let alone the league's.

Well, as you guys know, I was sold on Donnie, and made him a keeper for his great efforts... But, he was a late bloomer, and did have his hot and cold moments. Maybe Rico will step it up now that Darkiller has made him a keeper.
Clark has a good 5 to 10 years left in him, and could pull out a couple of Bowl wins yet!

Glad we are alive and kicking, lets rock on!

Week 5 vs Tennessee(2-2) 2pt Fav
Rodriguez 24/81 2TD
Clark 17/29 224 1/1
Duncan 3 Sacks
Wiese 2 Sacks
Hamilton 1 Sack
Our Defensive Line stepped up huge in this game, our offense is still not "clicking"

Week 6 vs Pittsburgh(2-3) 3pt Fav
Rodriguez 11/15
Clark 15/32 232 1TD
Wheeler 11 Tackles
Gordon 10 Tackles
Wiese 1 Sack
2 LBs with double digit tackles spells trouble as does Rico's dissapearance again.
Cle 17 Pit 20

Duncan dislocates his shoulder, 6.5 Sacks through 6 games, that will hurt a little.

Week 7 BYE, No extra off days this week, the team needs to learn they must earn such luxuries.
We're 3-3, in a 3way tie for 2nd in the AFC Central. Cincinnati leads with a 6-1 record.

Week 8 vs Baltimore(3-3) 3pt Fav
The team praticed well and it shows
Rodriguez 18/104 1TD
Clark 14/28 271 3TD
Jeffries 5/75 2TD
Kobeski(LB) 73yd INT ret TD
Duncan 3 Sacks
Cle 41 Bal 19

Cle 20 SD 10

Week 11 at Pittsburg(5-4) 6pt Fav
Rodriguez 13/2
Clark 12/31 168 1/1
Cle 10 Pit 18

Simply stunning, we're starting to roll, get through a couple tough games and then POW, the offense hits a wall. The defense kept us in it, but the big plays went the other way. We have a VERY big game next week.

Week 12 at Cincinnati(7-3) 1pt Dog
Rodriguez 18/74
Clark 14/22 179
Cle 9 Cin 3

The game wasn't pretty unless you're a Browns fan, and that we are and this puts us into a tie for the division lead.

Standings after week 12
Cincy 7-4
Cleve 7-4
Tenn 6-5
Pitt 6-5
Balt 5-6
Jax 1-10

Week 13 vs New Orleans(7-4) 8pt Fav
Rodriguez 26/76 1TD
Clark 8/23 148 2TD(8 Completions???)
Foster 6 Tackles 1 Sack 1 INT
Cle 32 NO 15
The defense won this game, Clark needs some accuracy drills 48.5% on season now.

Week 14 at Jacksonville(1-11) 10pt Fav
Rodriguez 12/39 1TD
Clark rushing 11/70, passing 31/51 489 1/2
Porter 13rec 195yds
Jeffries 4/134
Cle 26 Jax 27

Yes, we lost. We lost to the worst team in the NFL. We lost despite Clark playing one of the best games of his pro career. Our defense couldn't stop them when they needed to, though they didn't play bad, yielding only 254 yards of total offense, 2 rushing. This hurts. Cincy lost and Pitt won and we're now at the bottom of a 3way tie for first.

Week 15 at Seattle(7-5-1) 1pt Fav
Rodriguez 18/121 1TD
Clark hurt, not bad. 3/9 81
Cassidy 10/25 110 1INT
Cle 30 Sea 20

We're still in a 3way tie for the division lead.

Week 16 vs Buffalo(6-8) 6pt Fav
Rodriguez 17/85
Clark 16/29 268 2/2
Cole 5rec 127
Wiese 2 Sacks
Cle 19 Buf 10

We're in a 3way divisional tie at 10-5 with Cincy and Pittsburgh. It's actually concievable that we could finish 11-5 and MISS the playoffs, let's hope we don't have to face that situation.

Week 17 vs Jacksonville(2-13) 13pt Fav
Rodriguez 20/38 1TD
Clark 24/38 394 2/1
Cole 9/139 2TD
Jeffries 8/170
Duncan 3 Sacks
Wiese 2 Sacks
Cle 28 Jax 9

No freak stuff in this game, though it is disturbing that Clarks only really "Great" games this year were at the hands of the lowly Jags... Pittsburgh won thier final game and we're force to take a wild card slot in a VERY competitive AFC, and are forced to do it on the road.

I probably won't get to the playoffs until after Christmas, but I'll try. Merry Christmas everyone.

I'll I want for Christmas is another Browns SuperBowl Ring....

I am (I have to be) optimistic. Except for the first J'ville game, the D played well in the second segment of the season.

We know that Rico and Lee can make the plays, but can they make them in the big games ?

Happy holidays to all !

First things first - happy holidays to you guys. I know this sounds incredibly cheesey, but I feel fortunate for lucking into this challenge with all of you - you are a good bunch of 'fellers

Good lord our defense kicks ass. Clifton Duncan, whom I traded for a while back, is finally blossoming. Seth Gordon is learning at the feet of the great 18 Wheeler. Our secondary is insanely good. And then there is Phil Hamilton and Lou Kirk - the Smashmouth Twins. Incredible anyone can score on us.

So what in God's name is goig on with our offense? We have THREE blue chip recievers - 2 Hall of Fame calibers in Porter and Jeffries. We have a top notch O-Line. We have the best TE and FB in the game. What is our passing game cohesion?

It doesnt matter. Our defense will bring us the ring! This is the best defense ever assembled

Before I get to the playoffs, let me answer a couple questions.

Cohesion:
Passing 74(bottom 1/3rd of league)
O-Line 92(5th)
D-Front 100(1st, duh)
Secondary 82(7th)

The passing cohesion definately isn't there. The D-Front surprises me a little since I've started the rookie Wiese in every game and this is really Gordon's first year as a starter in his young career.

It also hasn't seemed like it, but our Passing game, yardage wise, is the 5th best in the league, about 100yards behind the leading team.

Our defense has given up 250 yards fewer on the ground than any other team(1246), but we've given up the 2nd most passing yards in the league. Foster was battling a nagging injury all year and that hurt a little there.

Again we we're penalized 152 times, worst in league.

To finish the team stats off, we had the 2nd best TO margin, at +11.

I will give individual stats after the year when I can include awards.

Let's begin by setting up the playoffs:
New England(only team with as many SB victories as us, and a perfect 4 for 4 in those games, and the only team with a higher playoff winning percentage) is of course in.

NE 11-5
Indy 11-5
Pitt 11-5
Cle 11-5
Cincy 10-6
Char 12-4

Philly 10-6
TB 11-5
Chi 11-6
Det 8-8
NO 10-6
Atl 9-7

We have the best power rating in the league though, but at only 81, everything is wide open.

Atl 17
Chi 10

Cin 3
NE 20

Det 34
Phi 10

Wild Card game, at Indy(11-5) 1pt Dog
Injuries:
S Gerald Dunkleberger, concussion
WR Burt Porter, stretched knee ligament
G Ben Vanderclute, hip pointer.

Porter is the only one that was mildly serious coming into the playoffs and he won't start.

The game was very defensive, with lots of Field goals, we pull it out 19-13 in OT, a very tough opening round game.

AFC Championship Game at NE(13-5) EVEN
Haven't we done this before???

NE won the toss, but our defense is psyched, 3 and out, we get our first shot with the ball.

We run on the first three downs and end up with 4th and 2 at our 38 and the Browns go for it, but Rico is short and NE takes over with great field position.

The rookie, Wiese, decides the defense must make a statement if the offense won't and crushes the NE QB for a 7 yard loss on the first play.

Unfortunately, NE recovers and hits a 40yd FG to take the early lead.

Rodriguez breaks a 35 yarder during the next possesion and finishes the drive off with a run from the 8 and we're now up 7-3

A couple big pass plays and big Defensive Holding calls and NE takes the lead early in the 2nd quarter, 10-7.

Kick Returner Hughes breaks a 77 yard return on the ensuing kickoff, brought down at the NE 24. Clark to Pearson a few plays later, and we're back in front 14-10.

The defense stops NE on the next possession 3 and out, highlighted by a Clifton Duncan sack.

The offense is clicking, 10 yards here, 15 there and eventually Clark finds Vaughn to put us up 21-10.

NE returns the ball to the 50 and runs a good 2minute drill to get a FG before half, 21-13 Halftime.

Our first possession of the 2nd half fizzles quickly, as does theirs, and our next one, before you know it, it's the 4th quarter, still 21-13.

The 2nd play of the 4th quarter is a 41 yard TD pass from Clevelands Lee Clark to New Englands Amos Maxie, add the 2pt conversion, it's 21-21.

After a couple first downs, we punt again, but force a 3 and out with 10 minutes left.

Give the ball to Rico behind Banks and 71 yards later, TD! 28-21.

Gordon and Whiting are both hurt on the next NE drive that eventually leads to the endzone with 4 minutes to go. 28-28.

Clark to Jeffries 19yards
Rico -2
Clark to Jeffries 12 yards
Clark to Vaughn, dropped.
Rico +2
Clark to Jeffries...Intercepted, returned 56 yards. 2 minutes left, NE ball at Cle 8yd line.

After a little bit of time wasting, they punch it in, 35-28, 1 minute to go.

Royal, thanks for running the playoffs - the suspense was killing me.

And the Evil Empire wins again. The difference was Lee, sadly enough.

Gents, I just won my fantasy football superbowl 91-89. Better lucky than good. Marcus Pollard's two points eke it out at the end...

Unbelievable.

New England. Unnnggggh.

Our defense sure rules. Maybe with another year or two of seasoning our passing game cohesion will improve...

First of all, merry Christmas to you all I hope you had a nice time..

Very interesting season Royal, but of course seing those Patriots winning a 5th SB hurts a lot.
The promising rookie DE you drafted in the 1st round looks like the real deal..congratulations !

As for Rico, he had another typical season for him rushing for over 1100 yards...and his usual 8+ TDs.
The thing about Rico is that he can have some awful games but at the end of the year you always know where he'll end up. Look at his stats year in year out and he has been damn consistant.
But it is true that the few awful games that he posts during the course of a season sometimes kill us.
One other thing about him is that the guy is a clutch performer : he shines at his best in the postseason, akways managin very impressive performances in those games.

Lee Clark :
another season...another disapointement.
You all know what I said from the start about this big guy : he's not my kind of player and he's not the leader I would have liked for our team.
And actually it looks more and more like he'll never fullfil his potential.
What do you guys think ?

I think you are right. I drafted him, but he seems to be one of those players who look better on paper than on the field.

Probably give him one or two more years, but keep our eyes open for the next Blaine Davies.

Merry Christmas to everyone, if you don't celebrate this, then happy belated holiday to you

The Browns are preparing for the 2021 season, after losing again to their arch nemesis, and now most gloried franchise with 5 champioinships, the New England Patriots, they have a drive to succeed.

2020 report:
Team Performance: 72
Franchise Value: 100
Profit/Loss: 47(one more year until the renovation is complete)
Difficulty: 73
Overall: 75

Retirees: T Mitch Banks, TE Austin Bauer, DT Cornelius Eddings.
Banks played in 84 games, starting 72, all fot the Browns, with a 38.2% in career blocking, he will be missed.
Bauer was a one year fill in, hope he had fun in Cleveland.
Eddings was drafted in the same year as the great Phillip Hamilton. He could have been a real star for any team in the league but ours as he sat behind Hamilton and Kirk for a lot of games. Still, he played in 107 and started 55 games, amassing 22 career sacks and 176 career tackles. He will be missed.

The formalities are overwith, announcing to the 2021 NFL Hall of Fame, with the highest vote percentage of any modern day(i.e. fictional) player, Blaine Davies. His 91% is the exact same vote total tallied by his longtime teammate and fellow Hall of Famer, Donnie Sheen, very fitting.

Davies amassed 59,303 yardsand 397 TD passes in his career, both NFL records. He had a surprisingly low 86.2 career rating, though his 110.5 in 2004 is the 2nd highest rating ever, in addition, his 102.7 in 2002, his 4th year in the league, is 5th all time. He also holds 3 of the top five TD seasons, the most yardage in a season, 4,979 in 2002, and is simply the greatest Brown to ever live.

We have 9 UFAs this year, and only one starter, TE Bruce Pearson. He is the target of the Tag. We will be active in this off season.

I begin to search through the Coaches to see if perhaps there is an upgrade available. While I don't find one, I do find something VERY disturbing. Since being fired by the Browns, Martin Force has joined forces with New England and lead them to 2 SuperBowls and thus has 6 championships between the Patriots and the Browns. That makes the rivalry all the more intriguing.

Enter Free Agency. I jump on a deal sending G Phil Booker who is an extremely talented backup to Green Bay for the 12th overall pick and a scrub.

I then turn that scrub into a 6th rounder from Tennessee.

I make some trades to beef up our draft situation and sign some high quality free agents to replace what is lost. I don't trade away anybody with any kind of tenure with the team.

2021 Draft:
1(4) 5'11" 220lb QB Roger Brentlinger-Maryland
1(6) 5'11" 202lb RB Casey Beyer-Notre Dame
1(12) 6'6" 349lb T Norman Sanderson-Alabama
2 6'3" 265lb DT Riddick Tubbs-California
2 6'5" 306lb C Jimmy Misner-Washington State
2 6'2" 224lb RB Timothy Parten-Washington
2 5'11" 205lb K Moe Riley-Massachusetts
5 6'6" 261lb TE Max Harris-Kansas

This was a VERY GOOD draft for us. The two top picks are able to step in if need be, but will definately at least push Clark and Rico to play their very best. The "Gunslinger" Roger Brentlinger was a huge surprise falling to #4, two tackles were selected 1 and 2 and still we have the mountain Sanderson. Beyer and Parten will duel it out for the primary backup role to Rico.

2021 Preseason:
With the rookies and added depth at the skill positions, I take the opportunity to see the rooks play and give the vets some rest and injury avoidance.

In the first preseason game, Seth Gordon dislocates his shoulder, 3-5 weeks, hopefully it'll heal by week 1.
Beyer got 25 carries and 117 yards behind some tremendous blocking by young Ben Vanderclute. Brentlinger was miserable in his debut. 29-0 Win vs New Orleans

Game 2 sees Gordon heal well but Duane Hanson hyperextend his knee. Again only 3-5, could return by week 1.
Beyer gets 22 carries and 119 yards while Brentlinger improves to a much more acceptable but not inspiring game. Wiese has 2 Sacks. 31-21 win vs Dallas.

Game 3 goes injury free, Beyer comes back to Earth, the two backup QBs are very respectable, the defense combined for 6 sacks but we lose 27-21 to Atlanta.

Game 4, everyone is healthy going into the regular season, Beyer 16 carries, 108 yards, rookie Kicker Moe Riley goes 5 for 5 to finish a perfect preseason, Wiese gets 3 sacks and we win 29-21 vs St Louis.

Regular Season:
Part of me wants to start Beyer since he is rated currently with Rico and future ahead and played very well in preseason, but I will stick with Rico as he doesn't deserve to lose the job because I chose to rest him in the preseason.

Game 1 at Baltimore EVEN

Clark has been having a spectacular season, 111.8 rating so far, let's hope it continues.

Week 8 Bye

Week 9 at Pittsburgh(5-2) 3pt Dog
Rodriguez returns 19/116 1TD
Clark 18/24 272 2TD
Cole 6/91 1TD
Wiese 2.5 Sacks
CLE 34 PIT 10

Let's do a quick mid season stat rundown of our 6-2 Central Division leading Browns.
We're one game up on the Steelers thanks to that last game. New England is a perfect 8-0.

Clark 113/200 56.5% 1821 16/2 109.5-An 8/1 ratio is phenomenal, truly a breakout year for Lee, finally.
Brentlinger has a 120.6 rating in limited duty though

Rodriguez 110/445 4.0 3TD
Beyer 77/347 4.5 5TD
Beyer looks better for now, but its still too close to call, edge goes to the vet.

Cole, only started once Jeffries went down with injury after game 4, 36/739 10TD, will be a starter from here on in even with Jeffries back.

Kobeski leads the team in tackles with 43
Foster has 3INT
Duncan and Wiese both have 5.5 Sacks.

I will return to this tomorrow, time for Christmas Dinner.

Wow. Super draft, deep and starry, super productivity from the (up-to-now) somnolent Clark, and a great first half.

I think Beyer and Brentlinger will be our best boys for a long time. Wouldn't hesitate to spot start either of them, especially against the weaker teams in the last quarter of the season.

Have a great dinner !

I still have to put the draft history together, but dare I say this might be the best draft ever? Time will tell.

I feel responsible for firing Force (that's because you are, Subby). Well...ahem...Paniagua's ratings were so much better than Force's, save for one area: INJURIES. With the playoff healing bug being what it is, it might be worth trying to get a coach with EX in Injuries and Young Talent. Paniagua is in his 5th year with the best team in the league. It might be worth looking for somehting else if he cant lead us to the Bowl win this year.

Anyhoo - great great great draft and wonderful start to the year - remember I drafted Cole way back with hopes he could step into the starting lineup should Jeffries or Porter falter...looks like he is earning his keep!

Keep up the good work..

I looked through the coaches because I was unhappy with Paniagua's performance. I just couldn't find anyone else I liked, except for Force and his now 6 rings.

As for the draft, so far I'm unsure if this is the best draft, ya I had lots of top picks but some of Darkillers drafts could be considered better, BJ Carr and JR Farmer being GREAT late round pickups. I'm still really fond of the year I goofed and took 4 #1's. That was the year that saw Foster, Hamilton, and Wheeler start for our defense and they are still mainstays for our team.

I do think that this years draft has a lot of potential, but if Rico and Lee continue to perform, they are nothing but overpriced backups. Sanderson will be a big help and I think Riley will be a great kicker that I'd like to see in Brown for a while.

Cole is simply stunning this year. Only 4 starts and he has 739 yards and 10 TDs in 8 games. He is a major reason that Lee has finally shined.

What about the defensive performance in week 5 against Pittsburg? Only 46 plays(meaning ALOT of 3 and outs) and 105 total yards allowed, the offense was allowed to do whatever they wanted and they did for 61 points.

In FOF2, it's damn tough to "hang fifty on'em", as Barry Switzer used to say. Sixty is really rare.

Our team, though, has always been capable of an occasional unbelievable performance. Our problem has always been consistency - and I don't know why we havn't acheived it.

Let's see if I can finish this tonight and get the file onto Web.

Week 10 @ Tennessee(2-6) 4pt Fav
Rodriguez 16/93
Beyer 6/96 1TD
Clark 18/34 224 2TD
Duncan 2 Sacks
CLE 31 TEN 14

I'd love to see the two backs share the load like that every game.

Week 11 vs San Diego(3-6) 8pt Fav
Rodriguez 12/33
Clark 13/30 247 1/1
Cole 4/104
Wheeler 13 Tackles
Gordon 11 Tackles
Wiese 1.5 Sacks
CLE 12 SD 28

Very disappointing loss, inconsistency.

Week 12 vs Tennessee(2-8) 6pt Fav
Rodriguez 24/195 2TD
Clark 13/23 197 3/1
Wiese 3 Sacks
Kirk 2 Sacks
CLE 41 TEN 23

Clark broke his nose, listed as out 3-5, it's time to see how the kid, Brentlinger can do.

On a much more serious note, Phillip Hamilton hyperextended his knee as is out until the playoffs.

Week 13 vs Baltimore(4-7) 6pt Fav
Rodriguez 19/75 1TD
Brentlinger 10/17 151 1TD
Dunkleberger 2 INT
Kirk 4.5 Sacks!!!
CLE 41 BAL 20

Rodriguez reinjured his shoulder so we'll see how the two rookies play together in the next game.

Week 14 vs Cincinnati(7-5) 1pt Fav
Beyer 20/73
Brentlinger 15/23 216 2/1
Wiese 3 Sacks
CLE 41 CIN 31

Clark is up to 0-2 Weeks and both he and Rodriguez will lead us into this weeks HUGE game against undefeated New England.

Week 15 vs New Englad(13-0) 3pt Dog
Rodriguez 21/96
Clark 15/32 250
CLE 16 NE 23

Nobody shined and New England capitalized on the lone turnover, a fumble by Rico to pull out the victory. Otherwise the game was very even, but nonetheless, we lose again to the damned Pats.

Week 16 at Indianapolis(10-4) 4pt Dog
We lost 14-17 but when I went to check the box score the game crashed. I'm going to reboot the computer. Wish for luck...

It appears we're lucky/unlucky in the same breath. Lucky is that the game is OK through week 15, my last save, unlucky that the game with Indy doesn't count so now we have 2 boxscores for that game.

Week 16 at Indianapolis(10-4) 4pt Dog-TAKE 2
Rodriguez 18/123
Clark 11/24 223 2TD
Porter 4/112 1TD
Wiese 4 Sacks

Week 17 at Jacksonville(7-8) 1pt Fav
Rodriguez 24/96
Clark 17/26 245 2/1
CLE 36 JAX 14

We finish the season 12-4, but that's only good enough for the 3rd best division winner slot and are forced to host the Colts in our first playoff game. We beat the Colts in a game earlier this year(and lost to them in the same one for that matter) but this game marks the return of Phillip Hamilton to a defense that already boasts three of the most feared pass rushers in the league: Wiese, Duncan and Kirk.

Sadly, because of the crash, I'm probably going to wait until tomorrow to do the playoffs.

By the way, the Pats went 16-0 on the regular season...

Dont worry about the crash - I had to replay three games a couple of seasons ago.

I think Royal has had the best drafts so far, but I will work on draft history today and we can all decide

I cant believe our luck with the Pats. That's why you have to love this game - they pick up our coach whom I forced (no pun intended) into early retirement and win two more bowls with him.

That game earlier in the season against Pittsburgh was just incredible. Of all the games I have played of FOF2, I have only topped 60 points once...and that was this past weekend. What a complete domination.

Anyway, I guess I could prattle on - or I could work on updating the Browns website...

What is our lifetime record against the Pats ? I think Subby has the data to figure this...if he is feeling masochistic.

Actually I am feeling a bit Machoistic, so I am going to listen to some Megadeath and beat up my snotnosed neighbor. Then I have to stop by the Git It 'N Git and pick up a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon. Then I'm going down to County to bail out my delinquent son. And goddman if my wife didnt break the screen door on our double wide again! How the f*ck am I gonna keep out the cyclones if she keeps breaking the goddamn screen door.

Don't get married at 15. Wait a year or two and live your life.

Yup, damn Pats.
i'm sure they'll screw in the Post-season.

Remember in 2019 I went on to win in New England something like 40-0...don't remember the exact score but it was a HUGE blowout on the road, at these guys' place.
One for the history books Subby

Royal, congrats on a great regular season. Good luck in the Playoffs.
Let's hope Clark now plays up to his level, as he has had during the regular season.

First off, Subby, what happened to our webpage? I get that annoying Geocities "page not found" screen.

Onto the playoffs...

SF(9-7) 28
CHI(10-6) 33

PHI(9-7) 3
STL(10-6) 14

PIT(10-6) 30
MIL(10-6) 7

WILD CARD GAME vs Indianapolis(10-6) 4pt Fav
Game begins with the Browns in possession, we move down the field with a couple first downs then a couple penalties force us to punt.

The first defensive play sees a returning Phillip Hamilton assist 18 Wheeler on the tackle for a 2 yard loss. The secondary gets burnt a couple of times but they finally hold them to a missed 41 yard FG attempt.

Quick 3 and out

Again the secondary is getting burnt before penalties catch up to the Colts and they must punt.

Again not much production from Rico or Lee.

Kirk and Duncan team up to get the sack and end the next drive.

The running game begins to click as Beyer begins to see a few more carries and the drive ends with Clark finding Pearson from 11 yards out. 7-0 Cleveland

3 and out, the punt is fumbled but recovered by Kirk.

Rodriguez takes the first play 22 yards to the Indy 48 and the Browns have momentum. Clark to Jeffries for 17. Rodriguez runs for 15 to the Indy 20, 2 minute warning. They stall and Riley misses a 42 yard attempt.

The Colts immediately hit a 45 yard pass and they are in business. Hamilton sacks Stone on the next play, forcing a fumble that is recovered by the Colts. After an Off Pass Interference penalty, Duncan gets to Stone and its now 3rd and 33 from the CLE 46 with :36 secs in the half. Illegal use of the hands on the Browns, 5 yard penalty, automatic 1st down, the Colts are alive again. The position themselves for a 46 yard FG, but it is wide right. The wind must be blowing heavily in Cleveland as the kickers are 0-3.

Cleveland 7 Indy 0 at the Half.

Opening Kickoff of the 2nd half and LB Dillon forces a fumble, recovered by S Storey at the IND 24. The offense isn't in sync but Riley hits the 48 yarder to extend the lead to 10.

3 and out.

3 and out.

Indy gets a couple big pass plays to get to the get to the Cleveland 1 but the defense holds on 3 straight plays, they take the 20 yard FG, CLE 10 IND 3

Again, our offense sputters.

3 and out but Whiting is hurt. Because of a bad punt and a decent return, the Colts kick a 52 yarder to pull within 4.

Rodriguez is really getting things going as he is now over 100 yards on 14 carries and the Browns are inside the 20. 2 Incompletions and a Rico fumble later, and the Browns leave empty handed.

After another productive drive, the Browns get the ball back, now in the 4th quarter.

The Browns are running the ball, 6 straight carries to Beyer, Lee and Rico and the Browns go from their 40 to the Colt 12. The next give is to Lee who romps in for the score. CLE 17 IND 6

A couple more 1st downs, then Peters picks off Stone and returns it to the IND 29, time to put them away. Offense again sputters, Riley forced to try one from 55 and is short.

8:25 to go in the game. More passing, more first downs, Stone finally gets over 300 with a 22 yard TD strike, then the 2pt conversion and the Colts are now back within 3 with 6:36 to play.

3 and out.

The Colts move up the field and with 2 minutes left, Holmes attempts a 50 yard FG attempt for the tie.

The kick is up

It is

short.

The commentators say that "He's clearly angry, must be those new hard leather balls"

We run the clock out and backup Center Jerome Hankton gets the game ball as the team rushed for 239 yards.

CLE 17 IND 14
Rodriguez 21/166
Clark 12/31 164 1TD-not the big game we needed to see.
Wheeler 10 Tackles 1 Sack
Kirk 1.5 Sacks
Duncan 2.5 Sacks
Hankton 10 Key Run Blocks!!!

STL (11-6) 20
ATL (11-5) 14

CHI(11-6) 27
GRG(10-5-1)21

PIT(11-6) 10
NE(16-0) 17

ROUND 2 @ Oakland(12-4) 3pt Dog
Browns start with the ball. 3 and out.
Oakland 3 and out.
Browns 3 and out.
Oakland 3 and out. Exciting eh?
Guess what?
Browns 3 and out.
Oakland gets 3 first downs this time, to the Cleveland 38, then punts.
Browns 3 and then a a 44 yard pass to Cole, then 3 and intercepted at the OAK 23
Oakland begins to roll, getting some more 1st downs and ending with a 33 yard FG with 12 minutes left in the 2nd quarter.
Browns 3 and out, we have -2 rushing yards this game.
The Raiders are in rhythm, march down the field and this time punch it in from the 7 to go up 10-0.

We get our 2nd first down of the game on this drive, then a couple more, getting to the 8 but settling for a 28 yard FG.

Oak 3 and out and the half is over.

OAK 10 CLE 3 at the half.

Oakland comes out hot then get hit with some yellow flags and sputter.

Browns 3 and out.

Raiders avoid the flags and march again, finishing with a 9 yard pass for the TD

One nice pass from Clark to Cole sets up another Riley FG, OAK 17 CLE 6, we need to get busy.

The Raiders again march the field, but Dunkleberger steps in at the 6 and saves the game. Nearing the end of the 3rd quarter.

We get a couple first downs and prepare to punt, roughing the kicker and the drive is sustained. 11:21 left in the game. 2 minutes later Rico scores from the 11, and we're back in this game. OAK 17 CLE 14 following a 2pt conversion.

The Raiders maul our secondary, eat up 5 minutes and score again, things look bleak.

Browns 3 and out 3:27 to go.

Raiders 3 and out 2:13 to go.

Cole hits a 57 yard pass to Porter, then a 27 yard pass to Porter for the TD, 1:51 left.

Onside attempt failed, Oak ball on CLE 40, 1 Timeout left.

Cleveland holds them to a missed 51 yard attempt and has :16 seconds left for a miracle.

Clark hits Cole for 29 yards but he fails to get out of bounds, the clock expires and the Raiders win.

CLE 21 OAK 24
Rodriguez 16/29 1TD
Clark 16/33 301 1/1
Cole 6/122
Porter 5/152 1TD
Foster 13 Tackles
Gordon 11 Tackles

STL(12-6) 17
CHI(12-6) 24

OAK(13-4) 20
NE(17-0) 27

FOF BOWL
CHI(13-6) 17
NE(18-0) 31

The Patriots go undefeated and capture their 6th World Championship, 3rd under Martin Force.

We had a good season, but again failed to reach our goal. Clark had his best season thus far, making the picture again unclear as to the teams future with him at the reigns.
