I understand the hype on XCOM2 but...
According to Steam the next top selling game currently is.........
Truck Simulator? WTF you drive around Cali and NV hauling crap to get $ to customize your rig? Am I missing something? Sure its a 'game' but a top selling one? SRSLY? ppl are sitting around 'pretending' to drive trucks to oil fields and deliver shit to construction sites? this is PC gaming?

I had to look that up ... and then I saw where it's actually the sequel to Euro Truck Simulator 2.
That sucker sold 3.5m units.. PC Gamer Sim of the Year 2012. 79/100 on Metacritic, R/P/S #9 of top 25 sims of all-time. With that history I'm not surprised the sequel is selling well.

Yeah, I could never imagine wanting to play a trucking sim, but I see them on Steam and other sites all the time. On the other hand, take offs and landings aside, is a flight simulator all that more exciting? Especially folks who fly actual 14+ hour commercial flight paths in real time.

Before Euro Truck Sim 2 I would have agree with you but that game is oddly addictive. It is a very calm game, just driving from point A to point B and trying to go from driving for a company to owning your own truck and upgrading. It is very relaxing to fire that up every now and then and do a couple runs. I will try the new game at some point just to get the Americanized version (so I don't have to worry about remembering which side of the road I will be driving on or what the differences in signs are).

If you get the leveling system right just about anything can be addictive.

I have ETS2 and ATS. It's a great game when you just want to relax, put some tunes on and drive looking at the scenery. And of course saving money so you can buy you're own rig and leveling up.
I can see why people would not like it but I love it. |

There was an Intellivision game called Truckin. Pretty much the same thing these games are but when I first saw the Euro version I had to try it since I loved the Truckin game as a kid. I'll just piggy back what everyone else has said in that it's good relaxing fun. I didn't know they were coming out with an American version. If it's only California and Nevada, that's kinda lame.

I played the hell out of Euro Truck Simulator 2 and Farming Simulator 2015. Both great games that are very relaxing and have that little catch that keeps you wanting to play.
Certainly it's a big step from the Call of Duty / Halo games where you need to be 100% mentally sharp and focused or else your K/D ratio will be poor. At 9:30 when I can finally play games, I'm exhausted after work, commuting, making dinner, cleaning up, spending time with the family and making sure everybody is tucked in. I find these games are perfect for those moments. It takes you away to another place and you can enter a world that you might not normally have access to. |
