Mount Rushmore: Modern Christmas Songs

As in past Mt. Rushmores, pick your four, and only four songs that fit the criteria. This time around it is Modern Christmas Songs. The new Apple commercial got me thinking about this one. This is for new songs, not covers of Christmas classics. Here are mine in no particular order:

John Lennon - Merry Christmas (War is Over)

Stevie Wonder - Someday at Christmas

Live Aid - Do They Know Its Christmas

Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You

Isn't it a mid 1800s hymn originally? It's my favorite Christmas song by some margin, but I wouldn't consider it modern. Or am I missing your joke?

Yeah, you pretty much whiffed...it's obscure enough, so it's okay. Hell, most people don't know that cartman (OP in this case/reference) modernized 'Oh Holy Night'.

My boys found it pretty entertaining when thrown into the normal mix of Christmas music when they were younger.

Still a cover, so thus not eligible.

I think it was released in the 70's so it's not really modern but my all time favorite christmas song is One Little Christmas Tree by Stevie Wonder. If I'm really paying attention to the lyrics it can bring a tear to my eye every time.

Anybody from The Beatles is to be considered modern? If so, I'm surprised neither of my favorites ("Driving Home for Christmas" and "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas") has been mentioned yet.

'Modern' meaning since the start of the Rock 'n Roll era. Not the traditional Christmas classics.

Agreed the Pogues got a raw deal, though not as bad as Kirsty.

That's a tough definition, though. All the Johnny Marks stuff from the 50s would then be counted as modern and not classic? I think that's a different debate than the one we are having here.

Any special consideration for David Bowie / Bing Crosby version of Little Drummer Boy? While it could be considered a cover, Bowie wrote the lyrics he sings during the song (because he hated the lyrics to Little Drummer Boy).

Before opening that, I'm going to just guess: Baby Boomers (the same reason why rock is largely stuck in the 60s and 70s).
