Barrera vs. Pacquiao
The Ring magazine recognizes Barrera as the featherweight champion of the world. Pacquiao is the IBF Super Bantomweight champion of the world. This fight is a featherweight fight (for the "Featherweight Championship")
Marco Antonio Barrera: 57-3, 40 KO's Manny Pacquiao: 37-2-1, 29 KO's Pacquiao has a half inch reach advantage...not much of an advantage. He is outweighing Barrera by 3 pounds (133-1336) Side note: Considering how many times these fighters fight each other at varying weights, I don't see the need for all of these lighterweight divisions. I mean, there are divisions seperated by only 2 pounds. Yet when they fight each other, they are always several to a dozen to more pounds over. Meaning that their opponents are several pounds heavier or lighter....so what's the point? Another side note: If there is a weight requirement, they should make them meet it on the day of the fight, not the day before. Again, what's the point if they can go over the limit by a dozen pounds or more on the day of the fight? Another side note: Doesn't it seem odd how people recognize a magazine's rankings and champions more than the boxing organizations themsevles? Anyway...enough ranting. Let's get started. Round 1
Good featherweight action, as would be expected. Would be a tough round to score, except Pacquiao went down in the first minute. It didn't look to me like a knockdown, looked like Pacq tripped, but the ref counted it as a knockdown. Round to Barrera |

On the replay, it showed Barrera stepped on Pacq's foot, causing him to go down.

Round 2
Another good round. Barrera controled the first minute, Pacq came back to take control away. Back and forth in the last minute, but Pacq wins it with some great punching in the last 20 seconds in response to a Barrera combination. Round to Pacquiao |

Round 3
Barrera goes down! A straight left from Pacq lands right on the button amd sends Barrera down. He gets up and it's a brawl with Pacq getting the best of it. By the end of the round, it had died back down. Round to Pacquiao (10-8) Last edited by sabotai : 11-15-2003 at 10:46 PM. |

Round 4
Pacq has pretty much taken this fight. He's too fast for Barrera. Anytime Barrera lands a good punch or tow, Pacq lands 3 or 4 before Barrera can reset. Round to Pacquiao |

Round 5
Pacq is making a fan of me tonight. He's basically dominating this fight. He's making a world-class fighter, a fighter on many top 10 (and top 5) best pound-for-pound fighters lists. look like someone who doesn't belong to be anywhere near there. Round to Pacquiao |

Round 6
Barrera fights back in this round and does it well. Barrera went down, but the ref ruled it a trip. On the replay, it looked a LOT more like a knock down than the one in the first round, but did look like it could be a slip. Round a Draw |

Round 7
Barrera got a big cut over his left eye from an accidental headbutt. The blood is dripping around the eye though, so they are letting it go for now. Barrera is really hurt by it, though. Clearly seeing him wince when there's contact with it. Barrera fought hard, but Pacq still had the upperhand. At the end of the round, Barrera tried to headbutt Pacq and was warned by the ref for it. The cut seemed to have stopped bleeding. Round to Pacquiao Last edited by sabotai : 11-15-2003 at 10:38 PM. |

Round 8
It's becoming more of a slugfest now and that favors Pacq over Barrera. And it showed as Pacq landed more oftan and more effectivly. Barrera at this point needs to knock out Pacq in order to win this fight. Round to Pacquiao |

Round 9
More of the same, Pacq and Barrera are brawling and Pacq is dominating. Barrera punched Pacq on the break and the ref took a point away from Barrera. He's frustrated. He looks liek he feels Pacq is headbutting him on purpose (which he isn't) and that's the second time he has tried to retaliate. Round to Pacquiao (10-8) |

Round 10
Just more of the same, Pacq is dominating Barrera now. Barrera doesn't look like he wants to fight anymore. Pacq has never been past the 10th, so we'll see if he can keep up his fast pace. I say he will easily. Round to Pacquiao |

Round 11
Barrera goes down after a flurry of punches by Pacq. He gets up but Pacq just PUNISHES him badly. Barrera's corner jumps up and stops it while Barrera was taking his beating. Pacquiao wins by TKO in round 11 |

Just amazing. Barrera is considered one of the best in the sport, and Pacquiao just destroyed him. As the commentators just said, a star emerges and I see Pacquiao, who is still young, being one of, if not the, best small fighters throughout the rest of the decade. Just an amazing performance by this guy.

Barrera is a stud. Pacquiao just annihilated a stud. If he stays focused Pacquiao will be a stud for many years. I was not shocked he won but am shocked he completely destroyed Barrera who is one of the best fighters in the world via performance in my opinion.
