Nobody ejected. The original comment made no mention of wanting a raise to keep up with inflation, hence my comment that a raise isn't a requirement. As a manager, I make sure to take care of my employees and the last thing I'm considering is inflation. I'm giving them a raise because they deserve it, not because of inflation. I believe that is the correct way to handle things. If you handle it that way IMO, the inflation part is often more than covered assuming that employee does his job.

If they don't do their job, inflation is the least of my worries. I've got bigger fish to fry in that situation.

I got laid off the day before I was to get my review, which would have included a raise. Our department had a restructure from a regional department to merging the two regions into one big happy family which resulted in a 10% reduction in workforce of the department.

Did you see your two convenient contradictory quotes?

Haven't had a raise in 9 years.. nor has anyone else. We did get a 4% pay cut 5 years ago.

They just started reviews again.. perfect score and still nobody is getting a raise.

I don't believe I've had a raise in five years. Of course I set my own wages. And I've definitely added to my net worth the past few years.

I've got an employee looking for a raise even though a few months ago I gave him an extra week of paid vacation in lieu of a raise. Then he comes to me and said I didn't give him a raise.

We have lost many of the good ones... I pretty much am my own boss and can work from home most days and get a decent amount of OT, plus I get 6 weeks of vacation per year and 4 roaming vacation days.

I started out with a company that was really great to work for and then 14 years later, we were sold to this crap of a company. Same job, just horrible benefits as far as health/dental/401k goes compared to the other company.

I've been looking somewhat for a new job, but most of them start lower than what I'm making. I've thought about taking a few days off and really going job shopping, but I really love what I do.

As a family we aren't rich, but we live well, so nothing has made me get off my butt to go job hunting and the working from home makes a HUGE difference.

My office is actually in Chesterfield, which is a huge town (about 40 mins from me) but I've been here so long and know everyone, it would be hard to leave.

So what you're saying is that though others may look good in the shower, yours works pretty well in bed?

Good on you.
